Retro Studios and the next step

If Retro was doing DKCR2 Nintendo wouldnt have pushed out the 3DS version of DKCR, they wouldve just waited and got DKCR2 out this fall and made the money there. I think they are setting up for DKCR2 to come out on 3DS down the line.

Also Nintendo has franchise teams for a reason, Zelda team, Mario team, Mario Kart team, with them needing to get games out why would they put a new team on Mario Kart? That would make no sense.

Why would Nintendo force a full MK game on Retro but let Monolith Soft do what they do best when Retro Studios games have sold better?

Why not? I got your point but is about what YOU think is a good use of an artist, and what a a great art means. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is a great sidescroller and it has an amazing art style !!!

They can do wonders in a side scroller if they want, being a side scroller has nothing to do with what they can push graphically.

Another reason is 3D games usually have more hype than side scrollers, and if this game really was meant to be shown at E3 2012 but pulled out by the last second because Retro felt it wasn't ready to be shown yet also indicates that it's a big game, side scrollers are big two but they tend to not have as much development time than 3D games do.

Again, Retro said they aren't interested in doing a new DKC game yet.

Edit: Also they are also making a 3DS game, so if they are making a side scroller they would just put it on the 3DS.

Wait what?

I keep hearing this is why it didn't show. Is there a source to confirm this is what actually happend?

Have Retro made a game without heavy supervision from Nintendo? I know Monolith Soft has.

Also why would Nintendo allow Retro to make what they want when they have plenty of teams that have made games that sell significantly better than anything Retro hae made.

Again, your perception. DKCR sold very well and they released it on the 3DS recently, they gather the attention, made the game relevant again. So a sequel could receive a good reception.

Look I'm not saying they are doing it, just saying that there is nothing saying they aren't.

The art thing, and the hype thing, are just your opinion not straight up facts.

I hope they are doing a great 3d Adventure game, but DKCR are not out of the cards.

I remember hearing it everywhere right after E3 2012 ended, don't know what source had it though.

I agree with you, DKCR2 is definitely in the cards, but I feel it will be after their current Wii U game.

Whoa I haven't seen that..hype level increased. Thanks for that!

Lol, no problem. But it was Deactivision who had the link.

Nintendo should Re-release the Prime Trilogy in HD with Gamepad Controls, Off TV play and Miiverse.

Day fucking 0.

I honestly expect this, or at least the first Prime to come along down the line during Wii U's life-cycle. Maybe we'll get one HD remake per year. With Wind Waker this year, Prime next year, and maybe Galaxy the following year? Seems like easy money really.

With DKCR doing well on Wii and now coming out on 3DS the series is alive and kicking and it's only a matter of time until a sequel comes out. With Retro doing such a great job and the WiiU needing games I think DKCR 2 is destined to be made by Retro for the WiiU. Nintendo already had a big 2D platformer at launch so Retro's first WiiU game will probably be another genre. Once they finish up whatever it is they're doing now I believe they'll move on to DKCR 2.

From what I remember, the idea that Retro's game was pulled from the Nintendo E3 2012 Press Conference at the last moment is a presumption.

If I recall correctly, ShockingAlberto is the originator of the rumor. I believe he said that Retro's game was in a playable state, not necessarily that it was pulled from the conference and certainly not at the last minute. All he said was that the game was in a playable state. My memory is foggy, but I seem to remember that ShockingAlberto said this in an IRC chat room. Therefore, you probably won't find it in his post history.

Furthermore, he appears to be reluctant to discuss this further for some reason. People specifically ask him if he were the one who mentioned Retro's game last year, but he doesn't address those questions (not that I intend to pressure him).

It is important to note that since I believe the rumor first came out from an IRC chat room, it should be taken with a grain of salt. It could have been any random person who called himself ShockingAlberto.

That said, I expect to see Retro's game at E3.

I'm not saying that he's lying, but that Tweet was a response to what I presume to be incessant inquiries from people who latched onto that "crowning achievement" comment. If I recall correctly, he deactivated his Twitter account for some time to escape the interrogation.

Hmm Perhaps Retro is working on some kind of Open World Western RPG ala Skyrim or something else.

I don't think so...one of the ex-Naughty Dog devs who work there now said how he likes working for Nintendo because of "stylized graphics", which would imply something less realistic, but still leaves enough room for interpretation for it to be Metroid. For awhile I actually thought the whole Yoshi's Land rumor could be Retro, but that has since proven to not be the case.

Hmmmmm.... If it IS in fact Metroid Prime 4 they are making, I wonder what kind of approach they're taking? Going back to the basics of the first would be good. While I loved Corruption, the structure of the world just didn't appeal to me the way the first did. It would also be good if Samus was capable of moving faster than a tank.

Sylux confirmed I guess?

If they're making again a Metroid game I would be very dissapointed. They have already made 3 masterpieces with that franchise, so Nintendo should learn about Retro's work with Metroid series in order to design a new one without involving Retro into the development. If Retro Studios remains with Samus series they would be damned to do Metroids for the rest of their life, because that would mean that anyone but them in Nintendo is capable of doing a good Metroid game (and that would be sad).

Retro needs to spread its magic to other series, and Star Fox fits them perfectly. Yeah, Retro Studios should make a Star Fox game that returns the franchise to the quality standards it reached with Star Fox 64. Fox and company deserve more than a 3D remake and these people are the only ones (maybe Platinum too) that can do it right.

Platinum Games would be better off making a Star Fox game IMO. If there's a faced paced action point scoring game with cheesy one liners they'd be the people to make it.

This. Platinum is best for Star Fox. Kamiya would knock it out the park I believe. Personally I'd want Retro to work on a new IP.

I know, but Retro would make the Lylat System to look better than never.

I can imagine the buildings of Corneria designed with that detail and exquisite taste we all can remember. I can see the plains of Katina, the jungles of Fortuna and the glaciars of Fichina all re-imagined with Retro's particular art style, and every column and statue of the ancient temples of Venom, and every ship, base and space station from Andross armada, all of them built and designed with the care and singularity we could see in Tallon's IV architecture. Flying over those landscapes and scenerys from the arwing cabin while shooting and barrel-rolling through the sky could be one of the greatests and most impressive experiences I can think of. And, of course, just imagine the background story and dialogues they could confere to Star Fox universe, which has a lot of potential with all those catchy characters and sci-fi simple-but-charming atmosphere.

All of that assuming that in gameplay Retro Studios makes a playable bomb with everything they touch, of course... and Star Fox 64 gameplay base is pretty pretty versatile and succulent.

Who plays Rail shooter games anymore????

I kind of assumed Nintendo is forcing them to create more DK titles considering DKCR was a big hit. I do think they're being held back though, I'm not sure three Metroid Primes were necessary. They've been working on one franchise for about ten years now and need to move on.

I hope for new adventure Ip or Metroid prime game.. but DKCR sales was so huge.... Damn I dont know...
I hope Nintendo has some sense to realize there is a difference between a best-seller game and a system-seller. I do think NSMBU shows that it isn't quite the time for another 2D Donkey Kong Country

After playing Super Metroid again and seeing they are doing "A game everyone asks for..." And with the surrealistic artists and stuff they been hiring perhaps they are doing a Super Metroid Remake in the vein of Prime or something else?

A game everyone ask for quote is not true at all, do not take it for word.

If they wanted to work on a game without an established artstyle then they would be stupid to work for a company owned by Nintendo.

Nintendo needs games that will make them money, nothing Retro could possibly show would change the market position of the Wii U.

Nintendo franchises have had the biggest amount of art variations/design face-lifts in any major franchise, ever, by any other company.
