Retro Studios and the next step

What if Retro is working on the next console pokemon game? Genius Sonority hasn't made a pokemon RPG since Gamecube, maybe Nintendo gave that job to Retro?

I don't think they should bring an FPS, the genre is clearly entering in the falling curve, people are getting tired of it.

Damn, Retro can bring more to the table than what we think a western studio should do to appeal to westerns audiences.
I agree is about time Miyamoto's Halo (no joke)

Dark reboot for Nazo no Murasame Jō (Takamaru Ninja) please Retro.
In fact, anything will do, while the majority of the original Retro team have left, I've no doubt I'll enjoy their next output.

I would be okay with Mario Kart being Retro's title. I love the franchise, I love Retro and I love tears becuase of no "Dark epic AAA shit". Also, Nintendo needs to reclaim its Arcade racer crown after Sega claimed it.

I would be really mad if it's Mario Kart 8, there is no reason for it to be. They helped a little on Mario Kart 7 but that's only because they needed to release it Holiday 2011, Monolith Soft helped out with Skyward Sword, doesn't mean they are making Zelda Wii U, and Retro's style doesn't fit with developing full fledged Mario Kart when they already have a great team for it, and Retro not developing Mario Kart won't hurt it's chance to reclaim the Arcade racer crowed.

This is so going to end up being DKCR2, and GAF will cry. I mean come on guys, nothing else makes sense for Nintendo.

Retro confirmed that they aren't working on a new DKCR game.

Okay, I don't mean to sound like im speaking for the group, but I don't think artists leave naughty dog and vigil to work for the developers of metroid prime and dkcr to work on a friggin Mario kart game. How is that for assumptions?

Why wouldn't a developer want to work on the sequel to the biggest selling racing game?

Sweet zombie jesus yes.

How would this even work? The mushroom kingdom is not ready. I'm not ready.
I'm so ready.

I know this may sound bad, but I would love a horror M rated Mario game, just to say I played it and see what it would be like for Nintendo and Mario.

It would be an interesting twist.

Mario Kart is probably the most disappointing possible choice

so I'm setting my expectations for that and hoping to be surprised with something actually interesting at E3

Don't. Just stop there. It'll never happen. Nintendo can't give us a console Pokémon game, because with the Wii U's strong online potential, they know there is absolute, positively, no excuse this time to not have a strong online presence in the game.

Nintendo will never give us what we want. They're going to make what they think we want, and us poor, starving dogs are going to have to gobble it up and bow our heads and give thanks.

Please give us a Pokémon MMO. *sob*

I would like to say I would seriously boycott another Mario Kart rehash, but I would probably end up buying it just because I'm starved for first party games at this point.

Honestly, I think it would make more sense for developers who worked on NSMB 2, NSMB U, and Nintendo Land to help out on Mario Kart U than Retro because not only did they all just finish their projects and have more free time but they are housed in the same building as the Mario Kart Team.

It is a fair guess they have multiple projects going by now but I cant make any judgement calls based on who they hired. It could just be retros offer was better. As far as dreams go, im with you dude. I would like ti see something crazy or new.

And they hired half the Vigil art team (including character and concept artists) to make another Mario Kart?

If it were Mario Kart, a statement like this would make no sense:

...Eric Kozlowsky is the former Naughty Dog staffer, and he seems super excited for his project.

Alas I am going to shelve it for a little while as I am going to work on another project that I am super excited about. I can't talk about it too much but if all goes well it might just be one of my crowning achievements as an artist....

Play metroid prime in a dark room with gaming headphones on. Play through the level where you go down the lab and its pitch black when you get the infrared visor. Tell me that isn't scary.

That was one of the best parts of Metroid Prime, and I would absolutely love it if Retro managed an entire game with that feeling. Certainly one of the most memorable, I would actively avoid going back through there.

Didn't one of the developers who's working on the next retro game say its his greatest achievement so far in his history of game development?

That doesn't sound like it would apply to a Mario kart game...not that I believed it was possible that in the first place.

I'll try and find the exact quote.

Edit, beaten to it by deactivision...

In 2011 before Wii U was even annouced they said, it was not in the plans at that time.

It is not saying that they are not developing it. It is still a possibility.

With all the devs they hired from Naughty Dog, Vigil, Crytek, etc. It wouldn't make any sense to make a side scroller game, a sequel to Donkey Kong 64 would be epic but a side scroller wouldn't.

Why? really this argument has to die, it's like when they did DKCR there were no talented artists in the house.

They could go more in his direction, as an experiment. Limited weaponry with more focus on exploration. A First person adventure/survival horror combination/cross genre.

However, I doubt they would do this.

Those Chozo ghosts always gave me a nasty feeling.

Retro hired several testers in recent weeks, possibly suggesting that their project is slowly nearing completion.

If they hired testers them game is pretty much about done :)

I want 3rd person Metroid but would take FP
or New IP adventure game or WRPG

So something noteworthy for it's art and design and/or working on something very iconic?

It means the game is in a state where external testing is viable.

So that could mean alpha testers for a product that has a good amount of assets completed and is approaching post-production, or beta testers for a product that is far into post-production and is gearing up for a release.

Basically, it means we'll see something at E3 because the game is at a state where it can be shown off.

I only hated the ghosts because they were bullet sponges unless you used super missiles on them. In later playthroughs where I got most/all of the missiles it wasn't as big of a deal since I'd have well over 100 before I ever encountered them, but when you have like 60 and three ghosts to kill... especially before you get the xray visor.

Why? really this argument has to die, it's like when they did DKCR there were no talented artists in the house.

Because all the people they hired also worked on games that really push graphics, and making a side scroller when the Wii U really needs a big 3D AAA? Game would be a stupid idea.

I would also be game for a Metroid with increased horror elements. Almost every game has at least 1 scary part. The Thermal Visor area in Prime, the Metroid lab in Skytown in Corruption. Oddly enough, I found the light aether version of the under-temple zone of Torvus to be far creepier than the dark aether version...

And then in the 2D Metroids, we have Super Metroid's overall creepy atmosphere, and Fusion with the holy-shit-SA-X moments.

Yeah, a horror Metroid would work pretty well I imagine, maybe that's what Dread was planned to be?

I recall an old rumor that a Metroid title would be centered around Samus using the the standard Wii Remote and a Chozo Warrior implementing the Gamepad, but this some time ago and I believe was with a bunch of rumors for other stuff and I believe was considered BS.

So who knows.

Because the people who left were ARTISTS. In pretty sure an artist from naughty dog or vigil doesn't want to design a Mario kart game, a series with already established art.

Please don't be dense.

If they wanted to work on a game without an established artstyle then they would be stupid to work for a company owned by Nintendo.

Because all the people they hired also worked on games that really push graphics, and making a side scroller when the Wii U really needs a big 3D AAA? Game would be a stupid idea.

Nintendo needs games that will make them money, nothing Retro could possibly show would change the market position of the Wii U.

Why not? I got your point but is about what YOU think is a good use of an artist, and what a a great art means. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is a great sidescroller and it has an amazing art style !!!

They can do wonders in a side scroller if they want, being a side scroller has nothing to do with what they can push graphically.

Whatever Retro is working on I just want it to have shooting. For it to be an action title. First person or third person. I don't care which directly they go in. Also for it to have multiplayer. If it has that I'll be happen. Won't care if it's Metroid, a new IP, some revival of an older series.
