I ... don't know? My friend gave it to me on a CD-R and said "here, this is for you, you have to promise not to spread it to ANYONE though, I'll lose my hookups." I don't want him to lose those if this is what I get from them, sooooo...
you need to hook a brother up!!

These are the two albums I've been listening in my car this week.

The twenty minute cover of Neil Young's "Cortez the Killer" on Built To Spill's live album rules.

Is that Teenage Fanclub collection pretty solid? I thought it lacked a lot of the better songs from "Songs From Northern Britian" when I first looked at the track list, but I never heard that album.

Well, I love it because it was my introduction to Teenage Fanclub, and a friend said that it was mostly all that I really needed from them, though I've been meaning to get more anyway. So I can't really say how well it stacks up relative to their other albums.

I swear to fuckin' god! :(
I went to pick up Funeral, of course the record store didn't order it. Sigh. Now I have to wait until tomorrow. I DON'T WANT TO WAIT. I'm an impatient asshole.

Oh, and I want to get this off my chest: I fucking HATE Atreyu. They're quite possibly the worst band ever. I've only heard one of their songs, and it sucked, really hard. But reading an interview, where the singer talked about how their "look" was totally important to the music, and how they didn't "give a fuck" what other people thought, and how Green Day was one of their "major" influences, I just wanted to punch him in the mouth. So when I saw some "cool" lookin' dudes, playing shitty/generic metalcore on MTV2 one night, I'm like "Oh, fuck, I bet this is Atreyu, and if it is, this is horrible!" Sho' 'nuff, it was. Man, fuck those guys, and all the bands in that scene (Avenged Sevenfold, et. al.). I don't know if I hate screamo or "metalcore" more. Having to deal with a stream of Finch fans when I saw Sonic Youth tells me maybe screamo fans are worse, but I don't know. I'd rather saw my arm off with a plastic butter knife than listen to Atreyu.

how's the new faint?
So far, it's my favorite of all of their work. It's a little more sophisticated and has no big duds as there have been on previous records. I really like the strings on it, too.

Thier cover of Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love">*

Plus, "This Island", the new Le Tigre record which I can't seem to stop listening to. Just the right combo of slick and gritty, political and playful, goofy and serious. Hot. Fucking. Shit.

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
When the hell did Dizzee Rascal get big in the States?

On another note, where are you guys from? I haven't heard of 95% of the stuff posted in this thread...

Get Songs From Northern Britian and Bandwagonesque. Songs From... is the one you need most though.

I don't think he's big. He got a little noteriety because Matador, a pretty big indie label, released his last CD. I'm not sure who released the new one, or if it's even out. Showtime is really starting to grow on me, though. I wasn't liking it at first, but some if it is really pretty great.

Is that Imperial Teen album new? I haven't had a listen of their stuff in at least two years.

/edit God no it isn't. That's just one of those bands that completely dropped off my radar.

In preparation for the new album. Of which the current leak sounds like shit. Almost like the old Blade encoded 128k rips back in the day, with bad higher frequency distortion.

no, the songs just suck.

Haha, WRONG. While I don't like it as much as Bleed American, I like some of the new songs very much, especially "Pain" and "Jen." They can make some damn good pop songs when they want to. It's just the other stuff I don't care for as much.

It's not that hard to find. I can get you it if you still need it. The rip is 256 CBR. No clue who his "hook ups" might be, but they're pulling his chain lol.

It's really not that amazing. They sound like a different band almost. Too polished, I think.

A mixture of old and new. Blueberry Boat is a knockout record, some unbelievable songs on there. Listening to The Cure because it's a band i've never really given them the time they probably deserve. Having listened to a few early songs from the Cure got me in the mood for some Gang of Four oddly enough.

It's kind of a mixed bag with Bjork's latest. There are some songs where the concept is executed brilliantly. And there are other songs that I shocked myself to find are actually grating (imo)! Must listen more.

My singles from above albums would go like this:

"A Forest" The Cure
"Damaged Goods" Gang of Four
"Blueberry Boat" Fiery Furnaces
"Who Is It" Bjork

Tried to pick up The Arcade Fire's LP today but that failed. Oh well, rock on.

I've been listening to a lot of drum & bass recently. My top ten right now, in no particular order:

Break - The Compass
Break - Hearing Voices
Paradox - Aries Maze
Bad Company UK - True Romance
X-Plorer - Trainspotting
Doc Scott - NHS (Total Science remix)
Calibre - Drop It Down
Artificial Intelligence - Through the Gate
Jonny L - Alright
Materia - Impact (Paradox remix)

I like d&b with mashed-up breaks and a lot of b-boy flavor; I'm not into tech-step stuff, really.

The Futureheads played support at the Franz Ferdinand concert I went to see last Friday. They weren't half bad at all. I just want to say that Franz rocks hard live.

Eminem

goddamit, Griese!

ummm..."They're quite possibly the worst band ever. I've only heard one of their songs"

I stopped reading there. Not to try and be a dick...BUT that was one of the dumbest things I've ever, ever read on this forum. Seriously. Saying that about any band is just ridiculous. I don't care if it's Good Charlotte for christ's sake. one song? You base such a strong opinion on ONE SONG?

OMG I HEARD ONE SONG WORST FUCKING BAND EVER HERE'S A PARAGRAPH ABOUT HOW MUCH THEY SUCK SINCE THAT ONE SONG OBVIOUSLY MAKES THEM THE WORST BAND IN EXISTANCE

Well, if you bothered to read the rest of my paragraph, you'll see that the fact that their songs suck isn't my whole reason for hating them, it's their attitude and shit like that. But whatever. Listen to Ink & Dagger. It's a real band. And if their singer were still alive, he would probably steal the souls of the members of Atreyu. And then probably smash their guitars and shit.

DCharlie

And even i am moderately surprised
Grabbed random stuff from the games room on the way to work, so listening too.

Bubonique : 20 Golden Showers.
B000007XQA.02.TZZZZZZZ.jpg

very odd. Very funny in parts. "Cop Lover" (a cover of Cop Killer, with Ice T going on about having his Cop friend around for some tea and biscuits) is the high point.

Family Cat : Furthest from the sun.

Quite happy - Hadn't heard "Prog One" for an age. Slightly disturbed that this was released in 1992 making me feel like a total old git.

Puressence : Planet Helpless
B00006L9SU.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

One of the best bands to ever grace this planet. A bit hit and miss this one, but Make Time is fecking amazing. Not upto the same levels as Only Forever, but still....

The Werefrogs : Swing
Hmm... The Werefrogs EP with Forest of Doves on it was awesome, but the album stank. :(

Gus Gus : Polydistortion
B0000084W8.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Utterly fantastic.

Hmmm... so it's old music day for me today... perhaps i should go to the CD shop more often??

It's not an album, but I don't care.

Ever since hearing New Pornographer's July Jones every day at work it has slowly crawled into my head until I can't function without hearing it everyday. It's so damn good, really. I can't start the day until I hear it. I'm not sold on Electric Version, but nothing they've done stands anywhere close to this. I don't have a clue how I missed out back when I got the thing.

B0002J58BK.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
Super Furry Animals' Phantom Power remix album.

Four Tet, Mario Caldato Jr., Killa Kella, and Sean O'Hagan! How can you hate on these remixes of already-great songs? Get it before it's too late. Only 5,000 copies printed.

I'm also finally enjoying The Books - Lemon of Pink...
was very tired after work, and that sort of weird / mellow instrumental music got to me.

Ink & Dagger were notorious for stealing and breaking other bands' equipment on tour. I mean, I guess the next logical step after, you know, eating their souls, would probably be to break their equipment.

Was recommended to me in the Björk thread. It absolutelly rocks. Songs like "possibly maybe", "hunter", "all is full of love" are awesome.

Now looking for some old-school techno...Feel free to give me suggestions.
