Revolution info leak?

what i want to know is what the hell are people at nintendo thinking? the only way they are going to increase market share and profit is to build the sexiest, most powerful piece of hardware they can. gimmicks aren't going to cut it.

to be clear, i understand that there's a good chance this isn't true. but judging from the ds, i fully expect the revolution to have some dumb alternative to sony and microsoft's offerings (wireless lan instead of a dedicated online network) so nintendo can save some money...

what's worse, is that i wouldn't be surprised when the initial software doesn't make any kind of significant use of said alternatives. are they okay with watching their marketshare dwindle away?

Yamauchi must be spinning in his grave! :lol

Seriously though, Nintendo must know better than this. I can't imagine any consumers will think Wi-Fi + Touch Countroller = Revolution. The press would eat them alive if this was the system.

Well they're having the meeting to explain their 3rd Quarter tomorrow, and it's 7 years since they announced a collaboration with Kyosera before: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n10/news/980127.html

Hold on one minute.

Is kyosera KONAMI?

The Mobile 21 collaboration with Konami was announced in 1999...6 years ago.

I know I'm giving this alot of attention for an unverified rumor but it's suspiche...

Remember...Konami's website said there would be an announcement on the 27th (or 26th?) and if I'm understanding this thread correctly Nintendo will have a press conference on the same day?
joint?

Maybe it's true..lol

The system would have to be almost always on, at some level, transmitting the signal for anything like this to work. And the minimum range for said signal would have to be many, many miles, unless Nintendo hopes to plug all the holes with something permanent.

Could be an interesting way to cut costs of a network, but I don't think this is possible.

The system's signal would be sent as long as the system was plugged in.

Uh oh.

I'd be surprised if this was true. I wonder how the rubbing would work though, especially with buttons.

Sounds very abstract to me.

Especially when hand-grime comes into play from all the rubbing.

I dont think it is so abstract. Infact i think that the rubbing is the only good idea there. I think that half circle bit in the middle of the controller is a touch pad like a large version for the mouse replacements found in laptops.

It would work well if done right.

well... it would be very easy to, say, take an empty case like this, insert your favorite gamecube game into said case and enjoy! unless i'm not seeing at all what you mean, but i think youre saying the "revolution" game+the case=8cm, in which case i dont think that would make much sense.

You're right, Nintendo could just offer a plastic case with the Nintendo 21 and every time you want to put a GCN game in pop it into the plastic case, place it into the system and play away!

Wait a second, so what time is this going to take place, in EST? 27th starts in 8 hours...

The meeting, if it's at 10-2 or so, will be 18-22 (duh) hours, meaning that if this is news, it hits around midnight for our East Coast Gaffers, possibly.

Could be, but then what would be the purpose of the case?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe I remember an interview where it was mentioned that they'd considered caddies for GCN games, but that wouldn't have worked so well with Panasonic's Q so it was ditched? Perhaps this time that's not an issue, so they can do as they wanted to previously, as well as make use of both sides of the disc... but on second thought wouldn't that require a top and bottom laser? o_O Or they'd want you to flip the disc FDS style?

vesuvious said:
If this is is the real deal the Revolution games will be in a shellcase so how would the GCN games fit in a system designed for 8cm discs in a shellcase?
Well, our current illustrations don't seem the most exact... Perhaps the shells really have a middle hole? *shrugs*

What? I thought the range of the DS was only a few feet?
Impirius must live in Kyoto or Redmond.

Seriously though, is there even a remote chance Nintendo would announce something like this at a shareholders meeting tommorrow? Is there precedent for this type of reveal from Nintendo itself? I'm just curious.

What does this mean? You can only basically play with people on other TV's in your same building, house or whatever? What is the use of that exactly?

All the kids in projects will have this!!!
Hopefully these can penetrate the walls of old assed townhouses.
I can't even get a signal half the time on my cell.
These signals better be strong enough to penetrate brick and stone!!!
Or else I won't even be able to play people on my block!
Fuck you Nintendo if this isn't online.
I bet the rich people in developments will win.
With there cheaply built homes oftentimes set atop a landfill.

This is so futuristic sounding like a true revolution.
I'm Sick of being binded by controller cords.

I'm Sick of memory cards.

I'm Sick of no new media beides button pressing.

I'm Sick of no one innovating shit, it's always cookic cutter shit!!!

OK, so there may be some plausability to this, but now its wait and see if anything materializes in the near future.

Regarding the controller... I'd really rather have gyroscopes than a touch sensitive controller. Gyro technology seems like it might have more uses than being able to rub or squeeze. Unless it was both, like you squeeze the handle gently and that activates the gyro allowing you to adjust the camera, while still playing the game.

Actually a pretty good chance - pretty much exactly this time last year they announced the DS. I remember being on a sking trip in the Alps, logging on my laptop after a furious evening on Jägermeister, seeing the DS announcement and thinking "Shit, I'm drunk" and crashing to bed. When I woke up the Dual Screen news was still on my screen, shockingly.

Funny to see GAF taking to the IGN guys running joke so well. :lol

The announcement of the GBA SP and the DS were both made in the month of January.
I wouldn't be suprised if they did it again this year.

They'll unveil it to the world at their pre-E3 conference, no sooner, I'm convinced.
agreed. even if this is being shown at the shareholder's meeting, it's not likely that we would get to see anything of it.

Regardless of how this turns out the drawing is a classic. Either it will be the symbol of how the first details of Nintendo's Revolution broke or it will be megaton x 10.

The other persistent NRev rumour is a built-in HDD, in which case game saves on the machine would be natural and easy.

Another recurring rumour is some kind of big announcement with a third party. If any of this is to be believed, I'm now leaning towards Konami.

I guess the closest would be when DS was sort of announced out of nowhere last year, but we didn't get concrete details until E3.

No. Kyocera = Kyoto Ceramic, they make all kinds of stuff, from cellphones to laser printers to ceramic knives and fine china.

I thought this was interesting in their company history:

Oct. 2000 Taito Corporation merges with Kyocera Multimedia Corporation.

I had no idea :)

Apart from the 2005 release date, everything about this sounds believable and right up Nintendo's alley. And one thing to remember is that this document says nothing about the machine's hardware specs, if Nintendo can come up with a powerful enough machine that will let me play online for free then sign me up.

That movie said the soul weighs 21 grams as it leaves the body. 21 guns is the highest salute at death.

Drinking, gambling, celebrating old anniversaries/partners... *gulp* Nintendo is going to kill itself.

i will be sad if this is true, because in verizon adverts, the announcer always pronounces it "kee-o-cera" and i will go crazy if i have to hear that for the next five years.

Free online is exactly what Nintendo is aiming to deliver, and if they manage to do that without gamers even needing an internet connection? Holy shit. Count me in.

Alright, so there is precedent. But not for their consoles?

Hm, it will be interesting to see how things develop... especially since this would make Nintendo's reveal the FIRST of the three consoles to get any concrete real details, instead of Xenon like many thought.

It's just crazy enough to be almost possible.

Not like we have to wait long.. If that's the case, and someone was just doing this for the hell of it to pull everyone's chains, why would they pick something where the date was in the immediate future? Most people like to let their tricks stew with people over time.

Maybe I don't quite get how this would work nationwide... because there are large expanses of nothing. And if connecting system-to-system nationwide is not possible because of said expanses, that means its not free for Nintendo, which could mean it wouldn't be free for gamers.
