If I'm reading the article right, she's no longer employed by the RIAA. Can't see a conflict of interest there.

If we insisted that judges were not qualified to rule on anything that they had previously advocated for, or defended in their previous career as a lawyer, we'd have very few judges.

I think there is a difference between being legal counsel for an organisation, and being a lobbyist.

It might be that some of us think it rather improbable that this chain of events was incidental. She moves from lobbyist to judge, and almost immediately makes a hugely controversial ruling directly in favor of her old employer. Mass subpoenas, dude. That sounds more like Iran than the US.

In England, Lord Denning wasn't allowed to be a judge on the trial of Slobodan Milosevic because his wife was involved with Amnesty International (who had helped bring together the evidence against him).

If this judge used to be a LOBBYIST then clearly alarm bells should be ringing because she has so much history on one side of the area, as well as lots of friends still involved with it, etc etc.

Something like this, regarding lobbyists in general anyway.

This never gets old. Such a shame he's not with us anymore. I never laugh at this bit, because it's terrifyingly true.
