"Of course there's a wealth of fan-service and unlockable delights to be had (particularly if you're good at playing the opening Namco classic, presented in mini-game form, Rally-X. Sadly, the game doesn't let you create a custom banner like Rage Racer did, but that's a tremendously minor gripe. And, it should be noted, if you're looking for car customization, then you're playing the wrong game and would be better off waiting for Need for Speed Underground Rivals. But the verdict is clear, this is the epitome of great racing, handheld or otherwise. It's a greatest hits collection of the greatest arcade racer of all time, presented as stylishly and lovingly as possible. The words 'fast,' 'exciting' and 'beautiful' applies equally to the cars, tracks and gameplay. Namco did their homework, and in turn did thier racing series justice. Ridge Racers is a technological showcase not only for what the PSP can do visually, but what can be achieved 'online' via pulse-pounding wireless races. It offers hope for a whole new generation of Ridge Racers, and remains a critical necessity in any gamers burgeoning PSP library. Indispensable."
