Ridge Racer 6 XBL Hands-On

You have the ability of joining a race that's already in progress (depending if the invite is available), or hosting an event of your own, which allows your friends to find you quickly and fill available slots in the race.

Full Hands-On

I'm not all that familiar with online racers on Xbox. Is this option in PGR3 or any of the past XBL racers?

joining a race in progress as in taking control of an AI-controlled car during the actual race, or waiting as a spectator for the next race?

Im guessing they mean you can join the session and play in the next race. otherwise its pointless.

Yeah that's what I was sayin, it wouldn't make sense to join a race already in progress.

This news makes me happy!! :D

I love how they say "Only 20 to 30"

GaF has come to expect the impossible from gaming consoles.

Yeah, god forbid we expect 60 fps in next generation games...

Note: 30 second load times before races... -_-

Yikes, can you play Galaga or something in that time or is just blank screen? I'm still highly anticipating it, but it's pretty clear Namco rushed this baby out to make launch with this being the latest indication...

30 second load times before each race? Good god that will get old fast. I have not heard anything that bad since the original WRC on the PS2. >:( No HDD caching? Maybe they will patch it later?

Why doesn't 1up's review mention anything about load times? 30 seconds sounds quite noteworthy...

I think DrDogg either got a fucked up copy, or is CLEARLY exagerrating!

As for the drop to 20-30fps claim, I don't buy it, AT ALL! Other people have said it's 60fps ROCK...FUCKING....SOLID....ALL THE TIME!!

I will make a video on Monday just for you. I clocked it, and it was actually just over 30 seconds. Since this is the ONLY time the game has issues loading, I don't see how my copy is messed up, but think what you want.

Yeah, 30 secs is pretty believable considering other sites are now starting to mention long loading before races in PGR3 and I've personally seen long loading before games in Madden. Seems like loading next-gen is just as bad, if not worse than always at first glance. Boo :(

ya i heard next-gen will actually be worse for loading times... just think of the huge amount of large textures and data having to load in a next gen game.

nintendo will no doubt find a way around this, as it's something they always seem to personally, as a company, abhor.

sony will be in the same boat as x360 (if not worse actually, due to a slower medium).

Loading times on Xbox 360 are bound to be longer than Xbox 1. Let's compare:

Xbox

Average drive transfer rate: 3-4 MB/sec
RAM to fill: 64MB
Time required: ~16 seconds.

Xbox 360

Average drive transfer rate: 10-12 MB/sec
RAM to fill: 512 MB
Time required: ~42 seconds

Good lad. I was about to do the same thing.

What is the transfer rate of the HDD?

It's a freakinly slow drive. Around 17MB/sec.
Time required: ~30 seconds.

Really developpers are going to start to learn to stream data.

Or perhaps we should go back to cartridges, N64-style. ;P
