Right Let's Try This Again: PS3 Hypervisor Hacked

Already been called out as fake.
The red hello geohot text isn't parallel to the XMB text like it should be, rather than the vertical line.

Huh? It's just centred, not left aligned.

Not saying I believe this is real or that he actually ran his own code, but I don't see how text alignment can disprove it.

now he started doing photoshops, ps3 is driving him crazy :lol

I dont understand. If Sony relased a patch that region unlocks PS1/PS2 games, the PS3 would just sell a shitload more (I for one would get a Slim) without even relasing AAA+ titles or what the fuck do people call them.

Guess theres some stpuid reason behind this... Hope this hack works so I can buy a Slim and finally put to rest my older PSs :D

Nice hack but I want to know if he can run unsigned executables or load funny things in the memory.
We need details. Not screenshots :).

ps1 games aren't region locked.

Poor geohot must be terrified for his epeen if he's going to start faking stuff like this :lol

I almost wonder if someone hacked his blog or if its even his blog for that matter.

How is that zoomed image supposed to show a photoshop?
the compression in the picture is different around the text, in a perfect rectangle, from being selected/cut/pasted from a different image in photoshop.

That's how image compression works. Check the legit text while you're at it, as it looks exactly the same.

now its just embarassing

yeah um, maybe you should have tried that before you posted, it looks nothing like that

Well, you can very clearly see a rectangular area around the text that is of quite distinctively different 'texture' than the surrounding grey. i.e. as if this had been copied and pasted in.

Also, the text isn't parallel with the text on the screen in the photo, but is parallel with the top line. As if he didn't account for the way the TV image is 'aligned' in the photo very well, just used the top line as a guide...

I'd prefer to think for his own rep that he hadn't manipulated the image, but it's highly suspicious.

the image is clearly manipulated, whether someone hacked into his account to post this or not is the only question

What does the EXIF data on the picture say?
I'm pretty sure #1 World Technology Whiz Kid Forever geohot would leave no traces of alteration, were he to do such a thing (which he wouldn't since he could hack the PS3 just by looking at it, inshallah).

jpeg compression?

also its presumably possible to do this without being able to run unsigned code, he's just changed the text. its probably using the hardware mod he described a while ago

That picture looks fairly legit to me. Red color compresses worst in jpeg, so it will have more of those colorful compression artifacts around it than the white text.

that would maybe explain it. the compression does look different than the other.

Your need to read what you wrote again and think about it...

Humm surely if he'd just copy/pasted that onto the screen then he wouldn't have cut round the bottom of the "g" like jpeg compression does.

Ok, really quickly. Not easy because I have fuck all on my laptop.

How is this not the same?

The noise tends to flow less...cleanly rectangularly...around most of the other text (particularly around the bottom of text). But then maybe it's the colour of the text as Lord Error suggests, that leads to different characteristics.

A video would solve this pretty quickly...

If it is real the next question is what he's doing...is he running code to do this, or just manipulating graphics loaded by the system? From his earlier hack, the latter would be easy to do, would follow fairly logically from what he reported before (read/write access to memory).

Then why didn't he just use a text colour that doesn't look questionable?

You can tell some of the fanboys in here don't want this to happen for whatever reason. Thanks for the lesson on image compression though lol
The "fanboys" are just skeptical (as they should be). People have been doing a lot of talking about hacking the PS3 since 2006 and they have nothing to show for it.

ITT: People who don't know how DCT-based image compression works.

(I'm not saying one way or the other concerning the actual hack, but there's nothing suspicious about the image)

I guess. If it happens it happens. I wouldn't sit here and try and make claims I have no real clue about.

Btw... I like how we're zooming in on an already compressed image, and then saving it out causing even more compression, as our basis for arguing that it is a photoshop. what

All he did was replace some text. This is far from a true Hello World.
