Right now there is a giant inflatable sun outside the Vancouver Library

I think it may be a prop for Fantastic 4. They've been shooting that movie all around downtown the last 2 weeks. I think they were doing a X-Games style sequence at BC Place.

WHAT??!?! That makes perfect sense!!

At the SFU Surrey courtyard (Surrey Central Building) they had this MASSIVE black statue outside last week with all these weird props around! I only learned it was for a movie today but they took it out. And I guess I know what movie it is now.

Does that mean Alba is in the city? HAWT!!!

Blade III was shot here and so was X-Men 2. X-Men was shot in Toronto. The only true X-men member that is from Canada is Logan.

I was an extra for Mr. Magoo. I was at a neighbourhood park in Vancouver with my family outside of the house they were shooting at, and they were just asking for people.

A few blocks from here, they used a house for a Canadian movie, and on the mountain beside me, they staged an explosion for a TV show. I think it was Viper?

Yeah, the IMDB says that the central building is the goods for that movie.

I think they were doing a night shoot at David Lam park downtown a few days ago. They were also doing what looked like some 2nd unit stuff on the sea wall.

Oh, Catwoman was shot here too.

My brother was lucky enough to get a walk of the Riddick sets when they were shooting that here. He came away really impressed by the scale and look. I remember when they shot Ecks Vs. Sever outside the Library as well and had all the cars flipping over.

The Sixth Day also used the Library for the cloning company headquarters.

Ok. That explains why the security was so tight last week.

My University building is famous already! Here's a shot I took yesterday.

Oh, I saw some shooting outside the CBC building downtown last weekend. Probably Fantastic Four too.

I'm actually a little off put when I can really recognize Vancouver in movies. I spend all the time watching the background and the cheapness factor comes in. One night I passed outside of the DV8 lounge on Davie many years back and they were prepping to shoot the Stallone, Rourke alley fight for Get Carter.

Geography bugs me too when I know where it is shot. The Sixth Day just drove me with Arnold being downtown one minute and then at a Dam god knows where the next.

I was at that shoot! Were you there too?

So far I've done a club scene in Gastown and the four day motocross shoot at BC Place. I've shot Tru Calling (RIP) at the Library, and they had a bunch of huge lights on top and on the surrounding buildings, but nothing that could be described as a giant sun.

I wasn't there but I could see all the trucks and tents outside the stadium. I think I saw them prepping and shooting True Calling. That was what? 3 weeks ago or something? Had a cocktail party up on the roof and set up a faux cafe thing on the ground right? It pissed down rain for hours.

Hey Mike, is there going to be any more shootings that require extras? A girl I know really wants to see Chris Evans up close. Is there any hope?

Oh yeah, my friend took a photo of the statue on his phone the final day it was up. Just so you're all ruined for the movie when it shows up.

Yeah, the faux cafe was for F4. It was pretty fucking swank too, considering they built it on a mini parking lot by putting a glass ceiling above the parking alley.

I'm fairly certain they're shooting the movie until at least the end of the year, so there should still be time. Get her signed up with an extra agency.

Jesus, do they film any good movies in Toronto? Not that I my city is any better, I think some shitty John Travolta flick was filmed here and that's about it.

Alright, thanks! She's very grateful.

I know there was one scene in Rumble in the Bronx where you could clearly see Gross Mountain in the background during a fight. And it wasn't like they tried to hide it or anything.

He's referencing Vancouver, not Toronto. But yeah, Vancouver's seen it's fair share of both shitty and good movies.

Funny thing is, they DID try to hide it earlier in the film. Look for an isometric shot near the beginning of the movie of a building (might've been the store), and you can see some fake looking clouds digitally placed where the mountains should be.

Or that might've been Romeo Must Die, but I don't even know if that was shot here.

There seems to be a ton of filming of big movies in Vancouver right now. I was going for a walk on Friday night and saw Matthew McConaughey, Rene Russo, and Al Pacino filming some scenes downtown. That was pretty damn cool, they were only 10 feet away. :D My wife was like a high school girl when Al Pacino waved to her. :)

Yeah, they're shooting a movie called 2 4 The Money. I was on set at the airport a week ago for a scene with Pacino and McConaughey, which was awesome. Just saying hi to Pacino was the hilight of my week right there. Believe it or not, Pacino was loose and calm and McConaughey was really fucking dedicated and serious preparing for one of the scenes they were shooting that I was in. I expected it to be the opposite.

Yeah, their attitudes were the same downtown. Pacino was laidback, and McConaughey was serious as hell. There was a long break while they were changing the film and McConaughey was puffing away on a smoke with a hugely serious look on his face, while Pacino was relaxed and chuckling with the crew.

Romeo Must Die was shot in Vancouver.

The original X-Men was shot in Toronto.

Looking at the inflatable planet outside the Library this morning I think it may be mars or jupiter or something. There is a white Ice Cap on the top and the airbrushing on it looks more like atmosphere clouds than molten lava. Oh yeah, at night the thing was lit from the inside. There are currently no movie trucks around it right now but there was one earlier.

There is a security guard near it. It is also taped off. I think it may be filled with helium. It is tied down to the library square.

Oh yeah, my friend's dad is the lighting technician for this movie. Just learned that yesterday night. I'm not surprised though. He also works on Dead Like Me. There's tons of work up here for him.

My friend's getting a picture of this giant planet thing today when he goes downtown.
