This is going to be a hell of an election year. I thought he was staying away from mega rallies to avoid stuff like this after Chicago.

Hundreds of demonstrators filled the street outside the Orange County amphitheater where Donald Trump held a rally Thursday night, stomping on cars, hurling rocks at motorists and forcefully declaring their opposition to the Republican presidential candidate.

Traffic came to a halt as a boisterous crowd walked in the roadway, some waving American and Mexican flags. Protesters smashed a window on at least one police cruiser, punctured the tires of a police sport utility vehicle, and at one point tried to flip a police car.

"Dump the Trump," said one sign. Another protester scrawled anti-Trump messages onto Costa Mesa police cruisers.

"I'm protesting because I want equal rights for everybody, and I want peaceful protest," said 19-year-old Daniel Lujan, one of hundreds in a crowd that appeared to be mostly Latinos in their late teens and 20s.

"I knew this was going to happen," Lujan added. "It was going to be a riot. He deserves what he gets."

On delegate math, Trump is there because he can win the nomination outright with a good showing in CA, even if he does terribly for the next month (although that looks unlikely).

How is Trump supposed to go anywhere in CA without this sort of thing happening? Like, you can't stop a guy from trying to campaign, and if they did for (entirely reasonable) public safety grounds the Trump campaign would be able to run on a message of the media and establishment trying to shut him down.
Watching the chaos unfold, Colby Nicholson, 30, who described himself as a Trump supporter who traveled to the rally from San Diego, wore a "Make America Great Again" hat.

"These people are stupid, but Americans are not stupid in general," Nicholson said. "These are all underage Mexican high schoolers who have nothing to do."
GE racial insensitivity off to a great start.

So the anti trump people are vandalizing police cars and throwing rocks at random drivers? How does that make them look any better?

So why is he even there?

It's a win/win for him. Bolster the support of the over 30K people who tried to attend tonight's rally (the venue only holds 8K) and make his enemies look bad by causing shit like this.

also a bunch of extremely racist signs like "kill whitey". I'm glad I got out of there early.

Protests getting militant isn't surprising for the OC. Lots of racial tension there and a history of protests turning violent.

Trump spoke last September in the LA harbor and while there were protests, it didn't turn violent.

How does not one of these idiots stop and start to think "wait a minute us attacking police, behaving like fucking crazy morons and getting in the news might help trump :-O"

Orange County politics are so batshit insane. The history of Anaheim politics alone is an amazing rabbit hole to fall down into

Video footage showed some anti-Trump demonstrators hurling debris at a passing pickup. One group of protesters carried benches and blocked the entrance to the 55 Freeway along Newport Boulevard, with some tossing rocks at motorists near the on-ramp.

Uhh yeah take that Trump, I guess.

And people think there's going to be a lack of enthusiasm on the left this election, and that liberals will stay home....

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah right....

Cause that ain't true.

It's going to strengthen Trump's platform among his supporters and give him something concrete to point at. Kids throwing rocks at random cars on the freeway does absolutely nothing to promote anti-Trump sentiments among the left or right. Protest creates awareness, but CNN broadcasting to the general public "Mexican kids throwing rocks and breaking stuff" is not helpful at all. It's just another box for Trump to tick off in his next speech.

Pretty much, any negative action like this, especially from any form of minority Trump speaks against, is literally giving him more ammo.

Not to mention violent protest really doesn't seem like the appropriate action to take in an election ever.

Am I missing something here?

Basically any time there's a Trump or BLM protest people will post stuff like this, talking about how the protestors are causing hypothetical deaths by blocking traffic.

I didn't post in any MLK day threads, but if it happened then it was wrong too. If they were All Lives Matters protesters block traffic to a Bernie event I'd say the same thing. I'm not politicizing this shit, you are. I'm not some Trump supporter who's angry about his event being protested, I'm pissed off that this might legitimately cause someone in an ambulance to die, or a pregnant woman to be forced to give birth in the back of a car, and even barring those circumstances, I understand how infuriated I'd be if I was simply trying to go visit some family and a bunch of dickheads I don't support were protesting another dickhead I don't support by forcing me to not be able to see my family.

If you support shit like this, you're not better than Trump and his ilk.

Well now that almost all of Trumps attention will be on the June primary in California, this is going to be an interesting month and a half. I hope Cali survives
