A father's split-second heroism saved countless lives in another terror attack, in Beirut

Adel Termos, a Beirut resident out with his young daughter, witnessed a horrific bombing on Thursday. Then he made a split-second decision that saved countless lives. As a second suicide bomber moved toward onlookers clustering at the scene of the explosion, Termos rushed the suspect.

"He tackled him to the ground, causing the second suicide bomber to detonate," says blogger and physician Elie Fares, who lives in Beirut. "There are many many families, hundreds of families probably, who owe their completeness to his sacrifice."

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the twin suicide bombings that took an estimated 45 lives, including Termos. More than 200 people were wounded.

I felt this needed its own thread. As many know (or probably don't know in light of the attacks in Paris), ISIS suicide bombers also attacked a neighborhood in Beirut called Bourj al Barajneh this past Thursday. 45 people were murdered and hundreds others critically wounded. Men, women, kids...non-discriminate. I have family there, and I used to walk those streets when I was a boy myself, went to school there. This hits home, hard...

This man deserves more attention than he's been getting, or rather, should be getting. Thankfully it's gaining more attention online and through social media. A real life hero. Thank you so much for saving the lives of countless innocent human beings. RIP Adel Termos.

There are conflicting reports that his daughter was also killed in the attack, but this picture popped up on Twitter, so hopefully it seems she survived :

If we measure awesome on a scale from 1 to 10, then there's not a number high enough for this man. Damn, what a thing to do... What a great guy.

I thought the other thread said his daughter had been killed too when he stopped the guy? Excellent if not, that last picture makes me so happy.

Those fools think themselves martyrs for dying to spill the blood of innocents. This man is a true martyr, not for some corrupted ideology, but for courage, heroism, and decency. Thank you Adel, not only for the ultimate act of selflessness in saving the lives of so many people, but for reminding us that exceptional human cruelty can be conquered by exceptional human compassion. RIP

OP should mention the man was a member of Hezbollah, a terrorist organisation responsible for kidnapping, murder of hostages and truck bombings of American and French citizens.

Source? I don't know anything about him other than a selfless act. I think that deserves honoring.

So why not enlighten OP with sources unless you are just trying to derail this thread.

Regardless of the mans past he gave his life to save 100+ and by definition that's a heroic and selfless act.

What exactly is Hezbollah? I hear some say its a terrorist group and some say its a legitimate resistance group.

I guess it can be both depending on who you ask. Ultimately his act did save lives, which is commendable, but it does add an interesting wrinkle to the story. So many shades of grey in the world, much less black/white.

Glorious man. May he rest in peace. A true hero.

EDIT. He should be remembered for his heroism IMO, not the group he was a part of. He died a hero, not a terrorist. Again IMO.

The thing is, Hezbollah (like Hamas for instance) is both and a lot more. It's a terrorist group, resistance, political group. But they also do a shitton of charity like building hospitals and schools, and taking care of people.

Of course they do this to get more support from the common population, but can you really blame the common population for supporting it when it's the only way to get decent healthcare or schooling (this is especially true for Hamas)

Still, they are armed resistance and do a lot of dodgy shit, which includes attacks on innocent people.

Tears in my eyes looking at his photos.

A true hero and I hope his children carry their father's strength for the rest of their lives.

There are not so many innocent parties in this region. Maybe better to judge people on their actions rather then their political affiliations. There were good members of the NSDAP. Terrible persons in the ANC. Hezbollah has extreme factions and some that are more moderate. Just as the Tea Party idiots are not representative for all republicans.

I've been reading that the people who organized his funeral are part of Hezbollah, but I'm not sure if the man himself was a Hezbollah member?

This guy deserves a place in the annals of history!

We use the hero term loosely, but this man should be celebrated

RIP

A man who sacrificed his life to save 100 of others
This should be the lasting impression, not the cowards who are plastered on the news, their stories should be buried, not given more coverage/infamy

Depends on which side of the fence you sit on. Some would say the same about ISIS...

ISIS is a caliphate attempting to start a strict Muslim government. They only stand for themselves and aren't defending a country or a state.

Anyway, OT, I think no matter what his affiliations are, in that moment he made the ultimate sacrifice and saved lives.

Does it change his actions? Also damn man, second or third time i see you do this drive by posting with the French and American Citizen thing, they were Marines in Lebanon. I'll link you to Sijil's reaction in case you want to read it again. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=185306861&postcount=26

Do the news articles use the flag on his coffin as proof of him as a hezbollah members?
