Say I wanted to rip a piece of video from a DVD on my computer to make into a gif. How would I accomplish this?

Then I can't give you specific instructions, but I can tell you'll need to find a program that rips and converts. For OSX I use handbrake. It'll turn DVDs into .mpegs, .avi, .ogm...

From there you'll need something to isolate the clip and export it as a series of images (I use QTpro). Take that series and open it as a gif in your favorite gif editor (I use fireworks). Tweak and export.

Sort of off topic but I kinda wanted to make the "best action sequences" kind of demo disc with my dvds, is there any easy way of doing this or do i have to rip all the .vobs off there manually instead of maybe just somehow "capturing" my scenes?
