Rise of the Tomb Raider coming to PC Steam on January 28

I wish I had the gear for such a level of IQ.

With my single 980 I'll have to do with the shimmering.

Should look great still. I don't think I'll have to tone down too many settings for 60fps at 1080p.

I was gona wait for PS4 until i saw them PC screens...

Why do you think you will have to tone down anything with 980 @1080p? You should be fine with everything set on ultra i guess.

Seriously? I don't think this game will be demanding at all at 1080p. Even for a 970. Apparently it looked great on X1 at 1080p already with lots of aliasing but a 980 shouldn't have any issue...

Well Nvidia recommends a 970 for "high" 60fps at 1080p, and we know from the settings menu that there is a superior tier. I would not count on a 980 to cut it for 60fps at very high settings. Who knows how demanding all the improvements will be.

Seriously do you trust these nvidia articles 100%? I mean it's part of the PR to sell their GPUs and game.
If optimization is good and i believe that it will be, you should be fine with some fps dips here and there i guess. And maybe not highest AA but 4x is fine right?

With 280x i will be happy with FXAA only and 30fps tbh.

Optimization and very high demands are not mutually exclusive as you are well aware. My point is that there is no way for me to be sure of anything right now, I err on the side of caution even with a 980 coupled with a 4770K.

Besides, 4xSSAA would absolutely kill my GPU, the game probably does not support MSAA so that will be FXAA or nothing for me.

I believe we have already established a list of improvements the PC version has received, and based on this it is entirely possible my 980 proves insufficient for my desired 60fps target at 1080p, with near max settings engaged.

Of course that is absolutely not the end of the world, I never take maximum settings for granted, ever and I welcome scalable games.

I think the game will run very well on a 280x. Very likely to get 60fps at xbone render settings, assuming it's even possible to calibrate the PC version at precisely what the xbone uses.

damn i would love to play this game on PC but not sure if i will manage a solid 1080p 60fps and even then it's the kind of game i'm only gonna play once so no point buying it digitally.

maybe i'll pick it up in a few years to replay when it's dirt cheap and i have a better pc.

^ We will find out in 5 days. TressFX will not be so demanding now, they optimized it and i think that you will be fine. But if stable 60fps is a must then we should really wait for 28th and see.

The pc version of this game will make the console versions look pretty bad. Glad I enjoyed this game on xbox one and then on Friday I can enjoy it all over again at 1440p! Can not wait!

i7s are finally paying off. The Division uses 8 threads according to one of the recent previews.
The consoles had a lot to with that, better multi-threaded code on games is certainly a good thing, Ubisoft is famous for that since FC4 is another game which made good use of as many cores as you had.

The shots on the last page looked mighty nice, I still wonder why some people favor 1080p 60fps over much better IQ at 4k 30fps or 1440p with some dips below 60fps.....On the flip, I don't think the game is going to be as tasking as some are thinking it will be.

Those screens are making me wish I'd thrown budget concerns out the window with the PC I just built and could run this at max settings. It just looks insanely pretty.

Some people actually do lol, they think it's going to be a definitive edition with enhanced visuals and the like. Totally bonkers.

Well it is possible for the PS4 build to have a few effects the PC maybe won't, it only takes a different area of focus.

There is a limit as to how much will be improved on PC.

I guess this will be pretty demanding for the 7970?

I would not rule it out, especially if you crank up the settings close to max at 1080p.

Although with such a GPU you are guaranteed to run it much better than any console version can.

Damn, we've definitely beaten the Final Fantasy Spirits Within level in real-time graphics. When is it going to be better than Avatar?

Yeah. The last game ran beautifully and on all high settings. Hoping this can get close to it.

Wow thanks for the screens!

Regardless, I have held out for the PC version. My gtx 670 is still a lot more powerful than the Xbox One, so with an i7 CPU and 16gb of RAM and my new SSD...I think it's gonna be a heck of a good time. ^_^

They cost as much as a new i7. Used ivy bridge and sandybridge go for a ton.

Just an FYI to anyone looking.

Tbh at this point I'd be better off just going for the new skylake the only matter is deciding to get a mobo that uses DDR4 or just one that uses DDR3 and use my current RAM.

Gad damn those screenshots are great, roll on next week!

Wonder how this will run on my 2GB 670. I've convinced myself to wait for the next gen cards, but I'm hoping to be able to get this to ~60fps on medium settings.

Otherwise, is there an easy way to cap my fps to 30 without any stutter and for this program only?

Jesus, this game looks amazing. November is too far away...shit. You guys are so lucky

Care to elaborate?

The definitive edition saw new effects added to the PS4/Xbone versions that weren't added to the PC version. It's not unprecedented.

In this case I imagine it would be a new, discount release for all platforms though. So maybe the improvements would be included for everyone. All just speculation, though, who knows?

Because it doesn't matter how amazing the IQ is, 60 (or up to 144 in my case) will always be waaaay better than 30fps. Even if played with a gamepad.

This is of course only my opinion, but it is shared by many.

LOL

Yeah 30 FPS is like a slideshow. I'm not exaggerating. Once you start playing at over 100 FPS, you can notice the separation between frames at 30 and even 60 FPS.
60 FPS isn't bad but 30 is bad.

Pretty sure the reason I'm struggling in Bloodborne so much is that I just can't handle <= 30 FPS. It feels so unresponsive. Especially after playing basically every game at ~ 60 FPS. Which is why I spent way too much on GPU power trying to get ~4K 60fps in every game. SLI support is definitely required.

Um, this is a wallpaper, not an in-game screenshot right?

It's an in-game screenshot, but probably a cut scene.
