DeSoto police have identified the suspect in an aggravated robbery at a Waffle House last week.

About 2:30 a.m. Thursday, police were called to the Waffle House in the 1500 block of North Beckley Avenue, where they found a man shot in the parking lot.

Customers told police that the man had come into the restaurant, armed with an AK-47, and robbed numerous people as well as the business.

One customer, who was legally carrying a concealed handgun, followed the robber into the parking lot because he was afraid for the safety of his wife, who was on her way to the Waffle House.

The customer called out to the robber, who turned and pointed the rifle at him, police said. The customer then shot the robber several times.

The robbery suspect, who police later identified as 26-year-old Antione Devon Cooper of Dallas, was taken to a hospital, where he is on life support.

Police said the customer was not arrested.

again, if nobody had guns, nobody would have to get shot.

How the hell does one even get an AK-47, and wow at that customer challenging a man with an assault rifle.

Just buy one and go through a background check. I bought my AK74 online a few years ago. Had to be shipped to a federal dealer where the background was performed before it was released to me.

They're rarely ever fully auto in the US. Semi-auto like most other guns.

It's only fair that positive use of CCWs get posted as much as negatives.

I'd have just called my wife and told her to not come because of a person with a gun, instead of putting my life at risk like this. What he did was not really smart and easily could have gotten him killed.

This guy was trying too hard to be the hero. Nobody got hurt at the restaurant. He should've waited for police to come, not gone out there and gunned down the thief in the parking lot like the cowboy I'm sure he thinks he is.

Thankfully he had the wits to not point his gun at the robber while still in the store. This would've been a very different story had that happened.

gonna wait for more details on this... followed the robber into the parking lot? sounds fishy.

Yeah, I honestly think the guy followed the robber out into the parking lot to be a hero, which is the COMPLETELY WRONG thing to do. I think he was ready to fire when the robber turned around pointing to gun at/towards him.

The way I'm taking this is that the guy was waiting for his wife at the waffle house.
Was worried his wife would be getting in, while the robber was leaving; and so attacked him.

Damn, an AK-47 is probably overkill for robbing a Waffle House

It apparently wasn't enough.

If I wanted to find someone with a gun, I'd go to a Walmart or a Waffle House... and maybe not in that order. You have to be a fool to try and commit a robbery there.

Wait, after the robber left?

Out of curiosity, when does that situation stop being self-protection and start being vigilantism? I'm glad no-one innocent was hurt, but I am wondering where the law stands with him on this.

Exactly. But watch him be praised as a hero for this. This country really doesn't need a bunch of old, wanna-be vigilantes opening fire whenever they deem it necessary.

I guess it still falls under self defense even though he brought himself into the situation? Yeah, don't really know how to feel about it.

He also risked that his wife runs into a shootout

At least he had the decency to have him turn around, instead of shooting him in the back like so many civilians defending themselves do.

So he followed the guy, shouted to make him turn around, then shot him?

That's not self defence.

Someone that just robbed a place with an AK47, likely, when shouted at, will turn with gun leveled. I don't see much of a scenario where the robber is turning around thinking it is someone just saying hello.

how is that self defense?
Robber was leaving, WITHOUT HARMING ANYONE. And customer follows the guy out "supposedly" calls out to him and shoots him when he turns around?

Won't somebody please think of the AK-47 armed robber.

That was a pretty fast turnaround on your stance.

I try to be as objective as I can. We might have differing opinions, but I can absolutely change my mind when presented with compelling evidence to do so. While the AK wielding robber was obviously the bad guy, it does seem fishy that the shooter went outside, called out to the robber, and fired hitting the shooter on a whim/self defense. I think it warrants further investigation, specifically looking at security footage, whether or not this was vigilantism.

he probably didn't have the chance to do it in the store and wanted his shit back so he was like "yea motherfucker, as soon as you turn your back..."

anyway, robber played the game with the wrong one and lost.

The type of person who would carry a gun on them at all times is the type of person looking for an excuse to use it.
