Worse than E-Pro, Float On, Nine in the Afternoon, and So Whatcha Want (except vocals)?

Those songs might not be very tough or fun on some instruments, but the thing they all have going for them, is Anarchy Club didn't make any of those songs.

Yes, but Panic at the Disco made one of them.

E-Pro and So Whatcha What are both utter shit, but Float On is good and Nine in the Afternoon is at least catchy and generally alright to listen to.

Are you implying E-Pro is not catchy and generally alright to listen to? Because not so much buddy!

Question: What's totally awesome?

Answer: Playing Drain You on guitar.

Nirvana redeemed! You can have some of their songs as DLC, as long as they're as awesome as that.

Wait what?

I think you all misunderstood.

Get Clean is the best bonus track.

If you think that's the best track then I've got some things to talk to you about. For instance, did you know that your body is only operating at diminished capacity due to the terrible influence of body thetans?

So true. Most fun I've ever had playing a Nirvana song. I love the hammer-on section before the solo.

I can tell you more, but it'll be $30. This will give you complete control over matter, energy, space and time though. Not to mention make you provably happier.

Every score based game should rip off that type of leaderboard.

Just about every complaint I have with Rock Band 2 has to do with failing to realize the potential of leaderboard and statistical information in the game.

The leaderboards should be cross compatible with all players who only own the original Rock Band. Maybe not stuff like career leaderboards, but for each individual song at least. It was always fun to see how well various DLC was selling and now that it is split that is taken away. Local top ten leaderboards for each song would be nice also.

The list should go over 100K. I am by no means a bad Rock Band player. I can finish about half the songs on expert on guitar, and could beat all the original Rock Band tracks with the exception of 1 on hard. But because there are potentially around 2 million people on the XBOX 360 version of the game, you have to be at least in the top 10% of players to even see where you rank. While it does motivate you to get better, it only breeds competition among the top players.

And the Geometry Wars leaderboard thing would be fantastic especially on quickplay where you could just scroll down the songs and see exactly your rank against your friends quickly.

As for statistical information. Before and after you play a song you should at least have the option of viewing your previous high score, and if you beat it by how much you beat it for each instrument and the band as a whole. It should always show your high streak after each song for each instrument as well. Another neat thing would be a separate section where you can just get a ton of useless information like your typical GTA games. Time played, total songs played, favorite genre, amount of notes played, overall percentage of notes hit at various difficulty levels, time played with each instrument, top 5 songs played, just crap like that. I am a sucker for that sort of stuff. I love the game to death, but these seem like fun and reasonable additions that could have been made with the sequel.

I really wish I could just have a blinking "new high score!" icon above my score when I finish a song. It would make me so happy.

Yeah, just small things like that are disappointing. All of this information seems to be tracked one way or another as is, so it would be nice just have those little pats on the back and indicators to keep you motivated.

This is my problem with all leaderboards. Unless I'm really close to the top do I care if I'm #2,135? I'm just competing against anonymous people on the Internet and there are so many that it makes it all very pointless. Only leaderboards against friends (or other GAFers) give you the chance to make any sort of impact.

As for being on the board, well, maybe it's just a smaller installed base on the PS3, but playing exclusively on Expert I'm on the board for every single song and while I'm definitely an "enthusiast" level player I'm not one of the top players. I still lose feeling in my hand and fail out of GG&HT at 96% like everyone else.

How the hell did Constant Motion get placed as a Nightmare song on guitar tier? God I can't do that song worth a shit on expert. It's way harder then the likes of Battery and Ramblin Man.

It frustrates the hell out of me because I love the song so much :(

It got downgraded a tier in RB2? :lol What a load of bull.

I officially have permanent image retention from Rock Band on my LCD. :(
I can see the stars in the upper right corner, and the left border of the solo note track.

I thought that was impossible on LCD televisions. Plasmas yes it is possible , same with CRTs, but with LCD and DLP it is technically impossible to get permanent image retention/burn in.

I got the ION rocker. Live.com was having that insane 30% rebate thing with paypal/ebay so I went ahead and bought one. The drum module supports my roland pads and cymbols. The kick does not work, but that is to be expected since the pedal is made like the high hat pedal. The kick does work if plugged into a drum spot. You could get a splitter and hook the Roland kick into the blue to do the high hat stomps that are normally mapped to that if you so chose.

First thing I did was reconfigure the set after following the their setup. Green crash on the right side is much too confusing for me, since the normal drum layout is for the crash to be on the left side above the high hat. I didn't have alot of time to play with it yet, but Im liking it so far (out of town for BLizzcon, Octoberfest, and Chargers/Pats game). It still needs a few positional tweaks and for myself to get used to where the pads are.

Maybe, but you can sometimes get 100% without getting gold, which kinda messes it up.

Gold star: star itself is gold
100%: the surrounding border/medallion/circely area is gold

That way you can get credit for either and to get a full gold you'll need to have both of them together.

How the hell does star power work on the RB kit? Also, the animation and character models in World Tour are still pretty damn disgusting.

Green and red pads together I suspect.

What's more disgusting is that someone would feel the need to play bass at medium for, well, pretty much anything other than a very small number of songs.

We got a pretty good vocal pack this week, they need to start giving us some more good bass songs. Basically we've got Rush, The Who, Black Sabbath, RHCP (though I haven't found a lot of difficulty in the bass parts, from what I've played, at least they're generally fun to play), apparently Duran Duran is rather good on bass, but I wouldn't know myself... uh, and not a hell of a lot else.

How about some Mr. Big? Not really my choice to listen to, but Billy Sheehan is one of those bassists who really just wants to play guitar and does a lot of tapping and chords high on the neck. Not really my sort of preference (I like bass that tries to still sound like, y'know, bass), but checking out some tab I've got here it'd be a pretty good challenge.

How about... uhm... not entirely sure where to go here... maybe more prog? Some King Crimson would definitely work (Chapman Stick Hero!!!) and we could certainly use it.

whoa that is awesome. it's kind of crazy that this is the same company that didnt want patch's to make RB guitars compatible and now they are going out there way to make the RB drums work within GH. changing the actual fucking mapping at that?

Yeah, well that's what you get when MS and Sony sit down with these two and say "okay, knock this shit off, play nice!"

the reason why I give props to red octane is because I doubt HMX will make GHWT drums make sense in RB2. thanks to GHWT (Sony & MS as well) I have no need to get another drum kit EVER.

Yeah, it is kind of nice to have my current set of stuff (even though I rarely touch the drums) work across both games. No way I could justify getting two whole band in a box kits with these games each year.

I think that's the greater reason why they did it. They knew that since they were coming in second they would need to do something to try and sell people on it. They'd rather sell software than nothing to people with drums and they wanted drums that look different (hey cymbals! another pad!) enough that they think it'll sell their set to people who don't have either or who just have to have everything.

I can never get over how incredibly ugly looking everything aspect of GH is...

Also this is my very first post in the new Rock Band Platform thread. I just got unbanned recently after a three month sentence for saying GAF mods were biased against Too Human and for complaining about the tag I got for defending Too Human.
What a waste, in the end I didn't even buy the damn game because the reviews were so bad...
So what did I miss, is there a CliffsNotes-style summary of the previous 10,000 comments somewhere?

I think red octane had to make the RB drums function in a real functional way. whoever at activision decided NOT to put out a drum bundle needs to be slapped IMO. Only way to get the drums is pay 190$ and I think red octane saw that and said "well better that they play drums in our game then no drums at all"

I was checking my EB and they stopped taking pre-orders for the full kit because they said there only getting like 3 or 4. I think ALOT of GHWT drummers will just be using there RB kit. I would have bite on a GHWT drum set if it was 80 or 90$ but paying 190$ for essentially a drum kit is insane. (now excuse me while I go play on my 300$ rb drum kit)

But Red Octane are the ones who made their drums different in the first place.

And they had to do that since they came second. It would be like if the Rock Band guitar somehow had different buttons from Guitar Hero, obviously they would have to find a way to make it work with all the old GH instruments.

I understand that but GH is the one of the biggest franchises in gaming and in the broad sceme of things 10 times more popular then Rock Band. they could have said fuck RB we will not re-map anything and make people go buy the GHWT drums.

sometimes you have to give the devil his due. :P

This reminds me that you forgot something else on that list:

Dave is wrong.

As usual I'm LATE TO THE PARTY! Finally beat Rock Band 1 drum career on hard. The whole thing was pretty easy (at least to pass) except fucking Run To The Hills. Failed the first time I tried, second bullshitted my way through.

I won't be sorry to lose it!

Thanks for the summary.

-DLC disappointment is inevitable, at least the number of songs per week appears to have increased.
-All those who are into country and rap/nu metal, sure.
-To be fair it is a dying continent, as Gen. MacArthur stated back in the 50s.
-What a lame attempt at humor, he's unworthy of being named after one of the all time great TV characters.
-Are folks expecting them around October 19?
-Never heard it, so it must be some recent pop song.
-I just can't get too excited for bands like Queen (also ACDC, Kiss, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, etc.).
-Who could have known EA doesn't take random advice scrawled on whiteboards.
-The Geometry Wars 2 idea is a good one.
-I have been saying that for months...

So what do people think of the RB2 songs compared to RB1?
IMO there is more quality only because it's 85 to 58, but it's a lot more uneven. There are many more songs I try to avoid playing.
Also, the bonus songs went from mediocre to intolerable.

I don't know why I'm posting this, I'm sure it was discussed 8,000 comments ago so I'll bring up something new: are we ever going to get more of the Rolling Stones?

Any number of songs by Yes would be good on bass. I would love to play Heart of the Sunrise in one of these rhythm games.
