I can picture lying around reading a book with well, a book. I can see a phone being a phone (and more), but I don't see what an iPad has that a laptop doesn't (other than Apple's "apps", which I'm sure you can find equivelants of most on PC).

I'm comparing a portable device against another portable device. People compare phones all the time.
Of course I'd never buy a Kindle. With the exception of "finding" PDF eBooks, they cost comparably to the real thing (if you shop around). I'd much rather have a physical book than a digital copy of one.

Read a book while your lying in bed, then check GAF, then play a little game, then play some music, then continue reading. Then go upstairs and your more likely to bring the ipad and do some browsing while your making coffee, laptop is such a pain in the ass to lug around, and don't say you can buy a laptop for $500...maybe a shitty one, and my netbooks battery life is 2 hours, gotta carry around a charger with me, not very convienent.XShagrath said:

If I'm at home, it's just a few steps to walk into the office and look on the PC, or get my laptop out so I can browse GAF or whatever while gaming. If I need something to do while making breakfast, then fuck me, I guess I'll be bored for 30 seconds while waiting for toast. Work supplies me with a laptop that's pretty damned decent (although I don't game on it), so it's not a huge deal for me. Whenever I commute, I drive, so I wouldn't need one for the bus/train/subway/whatever either. I'm sure many people that do commute currently either use a laptop or their phone to keep themselves occupied. And they couldn't have had that feature in there day one for $500?:lol I think the most comical thing about the iPad is as far as the design is it looks like a blown up iPod Touch except they didn't think to copy having the headphone jack on the bottom and instead have it on the top. I love my iPhone with all my heart and it is the greatest thing ever next to Rock Band for me....but I really dont see myself paying 500 for an iPad (when it arrives here I would not be surprised if it costs $1000+)

Im not convinced at all and I dont think I ever will be...but I like Dave answers so far. It has been a civilized discussion guys...
I think if in a country like here I take an iPad on a bus, or in the street, I would get violated, mutilated and then killed before getting the thing stolen....this sucks.

Why are you defending a mostly worthless device ravien? Sure it looks cool and people gawk at them but functionally, my phone does everything you just said it does and id rather have a smaller device if I were in bed (who reads in bed lol) I'm not 80 my eyes such but my glasses don't.
