"The 2001 census found that 76.8% of the UK population had a religion, with Christianity being the most prevalent (71.6% of respondents described their religion as such)"
Yeah, but we're liars. No one here actually believes in God except old people and strange folk. People just say they're Christian because of school.

Americans believe it, :lol

Moreover, in practice 48 million out of the UK's 58 million population are not involved in any regular religious practice, institutional religion has been in sharp decline since the 1960s, and the latest Church of England attendance figures show a continued decline overall.

I win.

Well one thing that irrefutably sucks about the UK is that the orange juice tastes terrible and is super expensive. Pretty much all fruit is bitter, small, and expensive.

Get some real produce plz

If religion didn't exist, we'd still be killing each other over something stupid.

I'm not so sure about where music would be without it.

I wonder if The Beatles were religious.

Gosh, it's not like George spent a good chunk of his career on the subject!

I'm not so sure I agree with this. Not to the extent of religion that is. We'd definitely still be killing each other.

Plus I'd argue that drugs have given us much better art than religion.

Religion basically re-inspired several people to do art/music again. So even though one could argue music is better now, it needed that first step in the Middle Ages, and subsequently the Renaissance. #devilsadvocate

Are you suggesting no one took drugs during the Renaissance?

I've personally have adopted the attitude of hating the player and not the game, so I don't have a beef with religion as much as I do with extremists that take it too far.

Then again, extremists ruin everything; just look at this board for living proof!

Sorry, but you cannot POSSIBLY excuse the censorship on American Pie. After all, it says "were drinking ____ and rye"--rye is also whiskey. It's pretty hard to be inconsistent with censorship inside a 5 word phrase, but somehow Neversoft managed to do it!

Very late to the party, but had a very long day at work and didn't check GAF until now.

Awesome! I have a drum off with Bebedora at some point, maybe we can work out a more peaceful solution where I don't have to look like a bumbling idiot holding sticks ;)

I don't think you are going to look like a bumbling idiot. :P And I'm probably not as good as you think. Saturday looks pretty good for me so let me know some times.

I'm up for peaceful solution play too. I just am IT fix it girl for a large paper company's Finance Dept and have to put in a lot of hours at times. (Plus my normal hours are 7:30 am - 4:30 pm EDT, so can't stay up too late during the week)

You plan on having Ronabo breaking one of her arms, don't you?

WHAT!?!?! *eyes Ronabo*. Actually I don't think he'd dare since he usually refers to me as 'freakishly strong' :lol

Owned. It was my idea to do it when you kids went to bed so we could yell hate at one another.

You're just worried I'll sing 'He Sleeps in a Grove' with the mic on and shatter your windows. :P

Fuck Vanille's eidolon battle, that shit borders on impossible. Beat it on like the tenth try with around 20 left on Doom. lol

inb4 "it was a joke I beat it in like 2 seconds"

I just beat it tonight on the 1st try. But then I have LOVED the Missions and so I'm seriously overpowered right now.

Ever have one of those days when you just shouldn't have gotten out of bed? That was yesterday for me.

What a bad day! Hope today was better for you, or at least easier on the furniture and floors.

G'night all, pumpkin time for me, but FRIDAY tomorrow. Yay!

Oooh, good looking out, my man.

OK, home, settled, heading downstairs to check out a ton of RBN tracks and decide what to download. I forget, if you download a demo, play it, and don't like it, is there a simple 'delete' option? Or do you have to go into your hard drive and track the file down by name?

Also, anyone up for playing tonight?

Also, the strangest thing happened...I was checking out all the youtube links posted in this thread today and suddenly I came in my pants. Very odd...

After my visit to Italy, all I could think about is how different art would have been without religion. Pretty much all art before the 1920's stemmed from some sort of religion. What if I never did? What if Da Vinci was able to create things off his own mind, and not be bound by the church?

Um, not quite. After the Baroque period (17th Century), which had a lot of religious artwork, the Rococo period (18th Century) was more of a movement to the humanist side of patron artwork. Hell, Realism and Impressionism were alive and well in the 19th century.

But I still feel like all these things stem from religion. They may not be directly portraying anything religious, but they also don't go outside the realm of what was accepted at that time. It's hard to explain.

Well in a broad sense, yes. Just like you could say Punk is derived from "Greensleeves." And Impressionism, definitely, pushed what was accepted at the time. Especially since photography was invented and it drew money away from portrait painters.

I've never really got to study Impressionism. I should really actually look into it. Seems very interesting.

I took an Art History class that delt with art from Renaissance to Modern art
a few times
. Personally, I love Russian Constructivism and Art Deco periods.

Also, the Impressionist movement got it's start by the work "Impression: Sunrise" by Monet.
