Generally yes, but I really doubt enough would be willing to pay for it. That would push this into the upper $500 or $600 range.
I would caution about hoping this is $300 max ... unless we find out the extra tech is actually quite cheap to implement. Otherwise we're probably talking about an Affinity or maybe HH as the guitar, which I really wouldn't love seeing.
Now as far as your point about Mexican-made Strats beating the piss out of the entire Squier line-up, I disagree it is that cut and dry. There is the occasional gem in the Squier lineup, just as some years the Mexican, and even American Strats aren't up to snuff.
For example, there was a line of Japanese Squiers a while back that not only crushed the Mexican revs, many considered them as good and in some cases better than the American Strats.
Obviously that sort of situation isn't the norm. However, I would put the current Squier Classic Vibe line up against Mexican Fenders any day of the week.
