I was at work all day yesterday, but have the next two days off.

What was the best quality / most reliable stream for the MS conference. I wanna watch Nintendo and Sony's.

Gametrailers had a great stream... then the site imploded shortly after the conference was done.

That is what I am thinking as well. I have a real guitar my wife bought me years ago but never really learned to use in the other room. Just a few things here and there. That is why I am excited for pro mode, the ability to actually learn something proper. The building of callouses is not what I am concerned with, but the feel of holding the string down while playing and refining technique that way. I am just waiting for the price of the realtar first. If it is too much, I will go with the halftar to learn hand movement, then go practice on my other guitar. But if the Squier is priced well enough, then I am all over that.

I'm willing to pay whatever. A Fender Squire is only like $200 so I'm assuming the RB one will be priced similar to that, maybe $50 more.

1) It matters what Squier Strat model they use as the basis. Some are less than $200 (and I pray they aren't used), some are into the $350+ range. I'm hoping they use the Standard Stat model as the very lowest entry point (they typically go for around $220-230), if not a better guitar.

2) The details on how they are accomplishing a guitar/console interface is unknown, so assuming it's free or even 'maybe $50' is a complete guess. I can guarantee the tech is not free though :lol

I suspect they are using some form of MIDI for the actual note detection (could be a hex pickup, or even at the 1/4" ... but the former is far more reliable) ... and a totally separate mechanism for handling the 'fret sensing', which is likely only for visual cues. What that would translate into dollars, particularly the latter part which is unknown tech, I have no idea. I'm guessing it's more than $50 though :p

Expect this thing to cost at least $300.

Generally yes, but I really doubt enough would be willing to pay for it. That would push this into the upper $500 or $600 range.

I would caution about hoping this is $300 max ... unless we find out the extra tech is actually quite cheap to implement. Otherwise we're probably talking about an Affinity or maybe HH as the guitar, which I really wouldn't love seeing.




Now as far as your point about Mexican-made Strats beating the piss out of the entire Squier line-up, I disagree it is that cut and dry. There is the occasional gem in the Squier lineup, just as some years the Mexican, and even American Strats aren't up to snuff.

For example, there was a line of Japanese Squiers a while back that not only crushed the Mexican revs, many considered them as good and in some cases better than the American Strats.

Obviously that sort of situation isn't the norm. However, I would put the current Squier Classic Vibe line up against Mexican Fenders any day of the week.
 
I'd guess they're going to use the Standard, which with the tech would maybe put it @ ~$300 or the Deluxe which with the tech would probably make it ~$350.

I had a discussion similar to this back when RB3 was announced, it's likely that harmonix and fender have an agreement so they can get the Squiers very cheap, I think they realise that price will make or break this things popularity. They didn't put a shit ton of work into pro guitar just to make the barrier for entry $600. Think about it, twice as much as the half-tar isn't unreasonable. I think any more than that and it's getting too expensive for the type of guitar it is, those guitars cost at most $100 to produce, add in another 100 for the game hardware in there and you have still have a profit margin that is decent.

I know dude is acting like HMX is going to walk down to the local Guitar Center buy up some guitars and put in their tech and then resell them. Of course they have deals with the guitar manufacturers that benefit both parties.

I am also EXTREMELY excited about Pro mode, but most of you should already know that by now.

I own a real guitar - I've wanted a midi-guitar for awhile now... and I want to save money. Half-tar for me.

And? Gears is new this gen and Halo was new last gen...

Plus there have been plenty of new ones created by both companies. Nintendo has been sitting on the same things for 30 years.

Gears is on its 3rd game this gen alone as is Halo(4 if you count Wars). look at the line up at MS's conference and it's dominated by sequels and shitty Kinect games. I'm not saying that Nintendo don't rely heavily on established franchises, they do but but don't pretend Sony and Microsoft don't do the same.

Watching the Sony conference atm and oh look, Killzone 3, how original.
