so uh, let's shut up about metal for a few minutes.

what would you guys say is the best overall week in RB1's 10 months of life? I'm going with June 24th because we got a Pixies album and Weezer Pack 1 on the same day. Too awesome.
Boston pack. No contest.

Best week ever for me was when the Oasis pack came out.
ok, that pack is the one exception to my "any song I like is usually fun to play in music games." rule. wonderwall is SO FUCKING HORRIBLE on guitar

The PS3 was designed by 'tards. It won't even automatically send an SD signal if all you have connected to it is a composite cable.

True, as I experienced rather unfortunately when I was hooking mine up and it had previously been set to run through HDMI. Thankfully the little manual it comes with doesn't bother to mention that you have to hold down the power button for a few seconds to reset this. That information is online because, well, that's the least convenient place to put a poorly formatted manual that basically just reads as a brief explanation of various menu options.

There really are some cool people in here.. The metal brings us out!

Now we just need to overpower all the lame-o indie and britrockers.

Not all of us indie rockers dislike metal. I just have a problem with some of the more recent nu-metal (all crap), black metal, and metalcore bands. Fewer distorted growly vocal and chugging, grindy guitars and more over-the-top, well, everything.

Pro: Iron Maiden, early Metallica, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Motorhead, motherfuckin' Sabbath
Con: Disturbed, Killswitch Engage, System of a Down

Frankly we need more prog rock. Give me some King Crimson ideally, maybe a bit of Genesis, ELP, and Yes. I would also very, very much like a Frank Zappa pack. Anyone doubting it would probably change their mind once they actually play it, much like the Grateful Dead pack (hey, even I doubted it until finding out how much fun it is) as Zappa almost always had some absolutely wonderful instrumentation.

Killswitch Engage are fucking awful. Awful awful awful. I heard their cover of Holy Diver. Awful. TERRIBLE. Their song in GH:3. AWFUL. Everything I've been subjected to. DESPICABLE.

I don't hate metal in general. I just find it hard to pay attention to it for too long. I keep planning on listening to the Painkiller album by Judas Priest, but I end up loving the title track then just now wanting to listen to any other one.

wow. i have zero confidence in theat drum pedal. :/

is there nothing reinforcing the bottom?

I never thought there would be. From everything we've seen it's always been shown as being basically the RB1 pedal, but with a metal plate on top. Essentially they put the knife on the pedal for you in advance.

Their song in GH is the song in RB :/

Yeah, that pedal looks like it'll still break, just take longer. That metal plate doesn't look strong enough to take the brunt of the force away from the plastic pedal. Looks like it'll provide less support than a butter knife.

Fixed!

Seriously, I"m up for almost all metal of any sort in the game. It brings the difficult, but it also brings the fun. I play a lot of local full band play with several pretty good players. We're not ScoreHero people playing for super-duper scores, but we enjoy a good challenge and a song to rock out to.

I know, but I didn't purchase it in RB, on account of it being fucking awful.

Oh well cant covert em all. I fucking love that song. Not the best track on the cd but still reeally good. Their older stuff is a litle bit better. Howard Jones is an amazing vocalist because he can go from the Growls to the lyrical parts and do both well.

You sound the same all the time too!

This has been the best month of DLC since launch!

METAL DEFENSE FORCE UNITE!

I wish they had released more than three songs this week. I'm ready for them to step it up again.

I'm late but I'm here! I would have liked to see at least ONE Metal Masters pack considering we got two Cruefest packs. I caught the last show of the tour and every single band was AMAZING. Yes, I know we have a Judas Priest full album and Painkiller in RB2, as well as Testament DLC and Souls of Black in RB2, but we don't have any Dio-era Black Sabbath or Motörhead yet (except Ace of Spades in RB2). So yes, we have all those bands, but goddamn it we need more Motörhead!

I can't remember if I posted this or not but not having Enter Sandman in Rock Band 2 is shitty. If I did it's really worth posting again

Best week was Jimmy Buffett week. Perfect RB songs.
I would say that the Jimmy Buffett pack was the biggest DLC surprise to me. I knew all the songs and I like Jimmy Buffett, but when I heard it was coming I thought it wouldn't work. I would have never thought that those songs would be among my favorites to play. I pretty much only play drums and the songs are easy but the charts have great variety and are just a blast to play.

Just listened to All That remains tracks. It's a damn shame that the songs are ruined for me by pointless stupid screaming. If the normal singing parts from The calling and Chiron were throughout I would purchase them in a heartbeat.

But then again the guitar solos are fucking awesome. I'm at a dilemma here :(

Something that just occurred to me that I can't believe I never thought of before was the need to have Meatloaf in the game. Specifically I'd say to go with "Bat Out of Hell" since, honestly, it's the purest distillation of his particular... well, thing. If you can't appreciate the gloriously over-the-top melodrama of it all then, well, just admit that it'd be great on vocals at least.

Also, Man or Astro-man?'s cover of the MST3k theme (and not just because I'm listening to it right now...) it has geek appeal and they're a great band, but most of their songs don't have vocals. Problem solved nicely.

On a completely unrelated note last.fm does a much, much better job of picking out random tracks from my library than iTunes ever does. A great mix of songs that I love that almost never hits one of the tracks that I'm a little lukewarm on and pulling out some of the more obscure and random from my collection. I don't know how they do it, but I think they may have implanted something in my brain.

Volcano is trash on guitar though. I barely hear what I'm supposed to be playing.
Yeah, I can't speak for the guitar/bass side of those songs. I think I only played each song once on the guitar. I think I remember the other songs being pretty fun on guitar though.

I'd buy Bat Out Of Hell. It'd probably be fun to play on guitar, though it does raise the question of when we're getting our keyboard instrument.

While we're throwing shit out there, I just listened to the new Kings of Leon single, and I would like it please.

The other two were really fun, I play them a lot. But Volcano...I just don't hear the guitar. There's just that fun little "do-de-do-de-dooo-dooo" tune being played on something and then there's me with a lot muted notes, apparently.

The opening solo to Bat out of Hell would be great. But then there's the full minute of the first verse with no guitar and no drums, just bass and vocals (and piano).

Besides, I'd rather see them do Paradise by the Dashboard Light....complete with the vocalist having to do the play-by-play bridge...and both parts of the duet.

Yeah, Volcano is shit. Cheeseburger in Paradise is awesome though, especially since it triggered this:

Guy eating a double cheeseburger and drinking a glass of beer while singing Cheeseburger in Paradise on medium vocals. This is his second attempt. His first attempt was with a fucking baconator.

Fuck. A week before Rock Band 2. I knew I should have stayed away from Castle Crashers.

Playing anything from Symphony X would be awesome! Extremely difficult on guitar, they'd have to come up with a new tier just for them. Batshit insane or something.

That was my reason for not even suggesting it. While it might be interesting I'm not certain it would actually be a good idea. The sort of crazed, wonderful idea that belongs to the homebrew and such, but would likely never, ever be done by a company and for good reason. It also, in all possibility, would not actually be nearly as much fun as it sounds like as is sadly common with these kinds of ideas.

It also likely wouldn't make it past the censoring needed. Well, maybe it might, but I could see the potential controversy of the play-by-play section at least scaring them away from it.

And of course "Baba O'Reilly" has that lengthy opening with, well, nothing for the game. Not quite as long as "Bat Out of Hell", but at the same time at least that has coverage for half of the parts.

There are a couple of other good Meat Loaf choices, but I think that "Bat Out of Hell" is really the best choice. I seriously do NOT want "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)".

And thus ends the speculation. Belgand has won the Internet. Which is to say, he was able to correctly divine what other Internet sex-perverts did in response to a fetish object. His prize? The shame at being able to do so and the mind-torture of knowing the foul truth.

Indeed, this day the internet is yours. Use it well.
