Something doesn't have to send you to sleep to be boring. I like a bit of Metallica, but there's a bread of metal out there (and I'm too shit with genres to describe it accurately, lets call it "shitty growly vocal nonsense with open string riffs played on a loop with double bass kicks every half a second") that bores me for the simple reason that every song sounds near identical.
You can say that about nearly every genre though.

I know. There's no such thing as a correct opinion with music though, and I can totally see how somebody can dislike an entire genre of music and have valid reasons for doing so. We should all just love one another.

Hmm... I don't like rap (out goes Frontalot) or the Offspring (I'd probably call it inoffensive, if it's on the radio I probably won't switch the station) and the Locksley tracks don't sound bad, but they don't sound like they're worth the money. So, uhm, none for me.

I might get the Coulton track though. I really like his stuff, but Skullcrusher, while a great song, really isn't my ideal choice for this. I mean, yes, it's overexposed, but "Code Monkey" has some great crunchy riffs and I was thinking that "RE: Your Brains" might actually be a bit more fun to sing (and Belgand hate singing!).

Darkest of Hillside Thickets (great name) sounds interesting and not bad, but hearing some of their stuff (i.e. "A Marine Biologist") I don't feel like it would be fun to play. It just gives me these flashbacks to "Freya".

have you ever tried listening to it?

You mean death metal?

there's a biiiiig difference between acquired taste like death metal (or whatever you're trying to describe) and Metallica (one of the most mainstream heavy metal bands there is)

Shit when did the other albums info come out? Kinda let down really :( Might grab a few of the Foo Fighter songs, and I know I'll grab three or four of the RHCP songs, but nothin else really stands out to me :(

Do you usually play guitar? If so Texas Flood is essentially porn in the form of audio and colored gems.

Doh forgot how much fun that was on GH1, so I'll grab that as well

I wish I could find anything fun in GH:1. Going from GH:2 on 360 to GH:1 on PS2 was impossible for me. The only stuff I could enjoy was whatever was made DLC for GH:2. BRING BACK FRANKENSTEIN.

GH1 had a fantastic set list. Of the tracks in the game there are a dozen I'd like to see back:
-Bark at the Moon
-Cowboys From Hell
-Frankenstein
-Fat Lip
-Crossroads
-Godzilla
-I Love Rock and Roll
-Sharp Dressed Man
-Smoke on the Water
-Symphony of Destruction
-Take Me Out
-Ziggy Stardust

-Cheat on the Church
-Even Rats

now the list is complete.

I snapped this pic at PAX today, you guys might recognize the guy who's on stage doing crowd control:

I've heard enough rap to know that I dislike it in any and all of it's forms. Sorta like how I'm unlikely to find the easy listening smooth jazz piece that just finally really does it for me. I've heard MC Chris, MC Hawking... I'm familiar with MC Frontalot though I've never actually heard any of his work and I'm just not going to like it. Definitely not enough to actually want to pay for it.

You want to give me some Achewood songs give me some Tenmen.

Well there's your problem right there.

;D

BLASPHEMER! I've been reading Achewood for years. I think I started some time around '02 or '03. I occasionally even post over there on assetbar.

No, the problem is that rap is terrible. I sincerely hate it the way a stereotypical 1950s parent would dislike rock music... in this case thrash metal. The rapped parts are almost enough to ruin Faith No More for me. Though oddly I've always found that I preferred both Mr. Bungle and Imperial Teen to FNM anyways. Rap and any and all forms of hip-hop culture are just completely and utterly without value to me.

Yet oddly I don't have any of the same problems with dub. Though I generally don't care for any sort of music that relies more on remixing and contextualizing rather than performing it directly.

Whoa, man. You seem like a guy with pretty good taste in music. To dismiss one of the most important musical movements in the 20th century completely wholesale is a huge mistake.

Well, at least the PAX pack wasn't unannounced...

http://www.rockband.com/news/pr/416447

Something important to point out, though:

Adding to the fan-focused celebration, the Harmonix/MTV Games’ proceeds from the sale of this “PAX Pack” between launch and Holiday 2008 will be donated to the Penny Arcade run Child's Play Charity in order to help out children's hospitals around the world.

Really cool of them to do this, but it does reinforce that if you don't buy this pack, you are going to look like an asshole.

Old news anyhoo but..

OMFG at Foo Fighters - The Colour and the Shape & Megadeth - Peace Sells... But Who's Buying albums comming out for download. Fucking amazing! :D :D :D :D

Wait, why are people expecting a "big" announcement? In terms of announcements, it sounds like they're just announcing next week's DLC at today's panel, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was a PAX pack.

Because they said a big announcement was coming... and they've already announced a PAX pack.

I missed the post a couple above mine about the PAX pack, but where did they say a "big" announcement was coming?

From HMXveng -

"I just want to point out that when we "promise a big announcement" - whether or not that's BIG is up to everyone's opinion. Case in point, some people thought 'The Who' was a big announcement. Some people did not and said it was lame of us to release tracks from only one band that week - you can't please everyone no matter how hard you try (and believe me, we try very, very hard).

I don't want to come back and see all these "HMX has broken their promises again! They should all die in a fire!""

So, err, should we expect something as big as The Who?

Some people didn't think The Who was big?

FUCK THEM.

I haven't checked the whole thread, but is there finally going to be a 'rock star' mode where they move the singing bar to the bottom so that you can play 2 instruments more easily.

It's a bitch for those songs of which you don't know all the lyrics or timing. But it still is the best way to play :).

TheGreatDave said:
But if they work in Rock Band 1, do you still put them in the RB2 OST?

Nope it would have to go into my "Rock Band DLC OST" which would effectivly bump that album up to 97 songs.

How does moving it to the bottom make it easier? It would be harder for me

Your eyes have to travel less, it's hard and you lose more time if you have to move all the way to the top and back again. Remember, you're singing and playing an instrument. I'm not asking for it to be like that always, just an option to move it to the bottom.

And while we're at it. I want Phil Collins' In the Air Tonight. The break would be awesome to play with singing & drumming :).

Though credit is going to the RockBand forums, I just read this on CAG..

Stride is giving away 20,000 Rock Band DLC tracks from September 15th through October 4th. 1,000 tracks will be given away each day. Not sure how the song giveaway will work, hopefully you'll be able to pick what track you want to avoid getting a song you already have!

You can sign up now, giveaway will begin on the September 15th.

Disregard the official rules as those are from a previous contest for a trip to LA and haven't been updated for this contest.

Credit goes to fireshoes on the Rock Band forums.

Well, it has you pick what platform you own. I wonder what happens if you say Wii or Other.

Signed up. I could win a trip to LA! WOO! Oh wait...

I'm so confused now regarding updates?

What's going on at PAX and how does Rush getting bumped fit into all of this.

Harmonix's PAX panel just started. There's supposed to be a big announcement during it- likely after/at the end, which will be in an hour and a half. We don't know what it will be- could be as small as the PAX pack that was already announced, big as the remaining 20 RB2 free DLC.

Rush getting bumped is unrelated. There was some technical issue, Harmonix had to do something, they put out Locksley early. I honestly don't see Moving Pictures showing up before RB2 now.

I have a question about the new Single Player World Tour Mode. When you start it, do you pick a difficulty to play at or is it like BWT in RB1, where you pick you difficulty at the start of any song.

Also there is no way just to play through a straight, list based song progression in single player? cause if not its going to take a while to unlock all the songs....

If they just end up re-confirming that list of 20, I'm going to lose faith in Sean.

They alluded to the Who Pack as a basis for comparison, so it's probably a song pack.

Each challenge shows the details, number of participants, date and score of when you best completed it.

One of the first challenges you unlock is the full setlist. So you can get that and go straight through.

I love watching it. Although I keep thinking the drummers only have 1 hand.
