Well.. are you saying you've never actually listened to the songs you're claiming are "terrible-to-listen-to" thrash?

Either way, the best songs on Peace Sells are: Good Mourning/Black Friday, My Last Words, and Devil's Island.
I've listened to them all, I originally hated them but I'm willing to give it a second chance. I have had a change of heart before, like with the Metallica pack.

I'm not like Costanza, I'm not a metal hater, I just don't like the Peace Sells album much.

The Who – Baba O'Riley, Who Are You, Amazing Journey, and Young Man Blues. I'm probably forgetting something else. Just don't get Eminence Front, though, it's boring on drums and tedious and not fun at all on guitar.

Huh? And My Generation is a must for your bassist.

It's offical: every piece of my Rock Band (neigh, Music Genre in general) equipment is defective. Let's run through the list:

- Xplorer whammy only goes down half way. Didn't work at all when GHII launched, had to manually fix it.
- Les Paul removable neck randomly fucks up the blue and yellow buttons. Tape helps, but not always
- Strat crippled by crappy strum bar that broke TWICE. Now permanently out of commission
- Drums broke in several ways. Blue pad had a crack. Two bass pedals snapped. Drum sticks worn down pretty bad

Latest: Microphone broken. Unbelievable. Before you ask, NO I haven't been doing any Daltrey's with it (swinging the microphone around by the cord). I've been getting bad static randomly for a while, and today when I tried to reposition the cord, the microphone cut off completely.

God damn Rock Band. If you weren't so damn fun, I wouldn't sink so much money into making your piece of shit equipment work.

The Who – The Who are one of the greatest rock bands of all time, you should endeavor to listen to as much of them as possible. Originally they wanted to release a full album of Who's Next which is probably their best album (and it contained "Won't Get Fooled Again" and they seemingly like to release the rest of the album they pull songs from for the disc, see also The Pixies with "Wave of Mutilation" and Doolittle). There were apparently issues with the masters so we got a pack that's largely composed of Who's Next and Live at Leeds which was also one of their best albums (frankly I wish we had "Heaven and Hell" instead of one of the "Real Good Looking Boy" which I dislike or "Sea and Sand" or "Leaving Here"... not to mention "Substitute"... seriously, why did they skip that?!?).

My suggestions: "Baba O'Riley", "My Generation" (Live at Leeds), "Summertime Blues" (Live at Leeds), "Who Are You", "Young Man Blues" (Live at Leeds). All songs are fabulous on all instruments with the live tracks especially featuring amazing bass lines that are some of the best in the game.

The Pixies – Are acknowledged as a classic alternative band and have inspired and informed the past few decades of rock music. The Pixies are (ok, along with a lot of other 80s alternative bands) very responsible for grunge. In particular Kurt Cobain is frequently cited as trying to write a Pixies song when he wrote "Smells Like Teen Spirit".Doolittle and Surfer Rosa their second and first albums, respectively, are generally seen as their best work.

My suggestions
: "Debaser", "Here Comes Your Man", "Monkey Gone to Heaven" (hmm... don't hold me to this, I really like the song, but now I can't remember what it's like to play in the game), "Gouge Away" (see above).

I am, of course, a tad biased here as John Entwistle and Kim Deal are two of my personal Bass Heroes. The Who and The Pixies are also, well, two of the most important bands in the history of rock.

People would complain about how repetitive "Gigantic" is, but it's one of my favorite Pixies songs and I love to play it regardless of how repetitive it is. Frankly, if you can't handle "fun, but repetitive" you probably shouldn't play bass. Drums either, I'd wager.

ALL my shit still works. I only ever exchanged my original strat before the deal ended out of fear, not quality.

LAUNCH DAY DRUMS still working. Drum rolls, pedal, everything. I play on expert and bang the hell out of them
Microphone is fine. (Although I have like 7 to use)
Guitars doing great. All 4.

The ONLY thing that has broken was my 360 controller clip for my mic stand (Which I got replaced) and the mic clip for a generic mic stand.

Since it's still Demand Things Friday I will continue to demand Frank Zappa. If you doubt me listen to just about anything off of the "Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar" albums. Or consider that when the Frank Zappa Guitar Book was released it was Steve Vai doing the transcriptions and he would later go on to play with Zappa.

A lot of people can't get past Zappa's lyrics (while others, of course, love them) or his experimentalism and cease to notice that he was an incredibly talented musician and composer who did some really amazing work.

It might be that the Zappa family refuses to license it out, but I honestly don't think that anyone has even tried.

Thanks all for the recommendations. I'll go check some of them out on youtube now. :)

I must admit I kind of do want to pull the trigger on The Who pack... but... 1600 points!

I got on for another session tonight.
Bad Omen... passed.
Devil's Island... passed.
Ride the Lightning... passed.
Four more to go on guitar, but I need another break, lol.

You can have Substitute if we also get The Real Me.

I'd rather have "A Quick One While He's Away", "I Can't Explain", or "Magic Bus" (even if it would be too repetitive to be fun in the game).

While it had to be shortened pretty much (16 minutes is a tad long) I think they cut down "My Generation" a bit too much.

Seriously, the Deluxe Edition of Live at Leeds is one of the absolute best albums in the Deluxe Edition series. It rivals the deluxe Pavement releases in how awesome it is and really all it does is just give us everything from the concert when it previously hadn't been released. I can't believe it took 31 years to get it all. The Who were really best as a live band and not having this is just astounding to me.

Well, obviously. :D They even mentioned in one of the little videos in the extras that the Who are sort of the ideal band for Rock Band. Their lineup perfectly mirrors the game's and each member is a notable icon of their respective instrument.

Does anybody want 1 free amazon song? I got it when I bought some books. I have a code worth 5 whole Pepsi stuff points! 5 points = 1 song
PM me

edit: gone

I'm a huge metal fan and I don't like the Peace Sells album.
Because it couldn't be mistaken for a domestic disturbance or dinosaur attack?

My album suggestions:

Rush: Everything is worth getting. YYZ and Tom Sawyer are probably the best tracks. But, you really can't go wrong.

Megadeth: Nothing. I like metal, but I do not like this album. Also, everything on this album is way too difficult for me to enjoy playing. So, it's a bunch of songs I don't like and am unable to play.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers: Everything. Get all Chili Peppers tracks. Particularly, from this album: Under the Bridge, Suck my Kiss, and Breaking the Girl. Not from the album: Snow and Tell Me Baby.

The Who: Not really an album, but rather a large pack. I bought about half of these songs. I regret getting each one. I don't enjoy playing these tracks. I like The Who okay, but I don't like them enough to endure playing the tracks.

The Pixies: suck

The Cars: Just What I Needed is a good track

Judas Priest: Electric Eye and You've Got Another Thing Coming are good tracks.

Terrible, terrible suggestions.

The Who Pack is a must to anyone who likes music. The Cars are worth at least checking out. The Boston pack is a must to anyone who also enjoys music. Rush is awesome, Priest is decent, Metallica is decent.

The Pixies do suck, though.

On the subject of Megadeth, while I think the album is decent, the songs are pretty hard to play and not too fun, but then I'm just now getting 95%+ on Hard Guitar, so they aren't really for me. I did buy Good Mourning/Black Friday though, just because it's ridiculously fun to sing since the lyrics are so goofy. Peace Sells is probably the best track on the album, and that's on the RB2 disc, so...

Still, checking out an album on Youtube is always a nice way to see if you'd want it. Generally, I have the most fun playing songs I already enjoy to hear, so if you like the album, it will probably be fun.

As for the rest, the only one I've bought is Rush, which is fun as hell. I also grabbed Under the Bridge off the RHCP album, which is great as well.

not me dude. I'm on like my 3rd drum kit, 4th guitar. and 4th drum pedal (it's my butterknife and duct tape pedal that won't break, it's awesome - first pedal to break, but the "mod" is still going strong).

with my current equipment: the tilt sensor stopped working on one guitar, my drum pads drop notes (particularly on rolls), and I'm using a butter-knife and duct tape bass pedal (which actually works amazingly).

So you know, you are not alone. I downloaded and listened to the tracks over and over again on my computer before purchasing any of them though (ended up only getting "Behind Blue Eyes" .. for now, just because I liked that song beforehand).

The two Rock Band threads here have made me:
1) Respect Paramore
2) Find The Who to be a highly overrated band (not bad in the least, just a lot of praise in their direction when I feel there is soooooo many other artists not being touched in Rock Band.. or Guitar Hero for that matter)

Well, no one asked about Boston and Metallica (they aren't "albums").
But, Boston was made for this game. Everything about the Boston tracks works so well and is so much fun in Rock Band.
And everybody loves Metallica.

Does Boston become an album after the 20 free songs are released*? Or is it not an album just because it was sold labeled as a 'pack'?

Oh, and while I agree that the suggestions so far have not all been spot on, the best way to choose your DLC is to call up the youtube clips of the songs, listen/watch all the instruments you're interested in.

Also, it stuns me that after a year of doing this, people STILL can't hear if a song will be boring or not. I've repeatedly seen begging for a certain song, and then when that song hits, it's suddenly disappointing. Learn to listen to music, people. Learn to hear what the instruments are doing. Learn to recognize what works in rock band and what doesn't.**

*'Let Me Take You Home Tonight' needs to show up somewhere...just to finish the album.

Butter knives + Duct Tape ftw. Seriously now, the pedal feels so damn sturdy, it can take a licking. However, that doesn't mean it's completely unbreakable, as the base actually seems to be absorbing some impact, and a tiny hairline crack has started to form near the bottom left. That's something no amount of billet metal modding can fix.

I think you might be my polar opposite. Some sort of evil alternate-world version of myself created simply to come here and espouse the exact opposite of my opinions on music. Well, except for Rush.

Frankly I'm amazed we have so much love for Rush here. I know far more people IRL and elsewhere who just don't like Rush, yet despite our other disagreements just about everyone here is into them. Wonderful.

??? Me? It's something I generally try to keep in mind.

Part of the reason why Peace Sells... isn't something I'm going to get. It's a great album and a classic of thrash as part of the holy trinity of thrash metal*, but I just know that it won't be fun for me to play. A lot of metal goes that way for me. It's not that I don't like it, it's just that I honestly don't have the technical skill to play it.

I'll also agree with Dave and others here on Doolittle: it's a great album, but it's not well-suited for Rock Band.

I will agree that this is definitely a problem. Some people just don't get it, but thankfully, it's a lot better here than in other places where I'd hear people complaining about the lack of "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Probably the most egregious offender of people suggesting great songs that just aren't appropriate for the game.

*As bands: Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer (add Anthrax as part of the "Big Four"); as albums: Master of Puppets, Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?, Reign in Blood all 1986.

Most people I know hate rush, simply because its progressive or because of geddys voice, which isn't that much different than other high pitched vocalists(AKA Bruce Dickinson, AC/DC volcalist, etc.)

Bohemian Rhapsody. But I'd still buy it.

Ha, no, not you. Actually noone specific, but just the people who cheered when El Scorcho was announced, only to be surprised at how boring it is. Or the ones who complained that Pinball Wizard wasn't in the Best Of Pack, only to find out that its one of the weakest Who songs to play.
And, yes, Doolittle is a prime example of this. I mean, people suggesting the entire album to someone who isn't already a fan of the band? Really? Not that the Pixies aren't great in their way, but so much of Doolittle just doesn't translate to Rock Band very well.

Another great example. There's a LOT of Queen that would work so incredibly well in Rock Band, but there are constant requests of Bohemian Rhapsody, or We Are the Champions. Great songs, sure...but would translate so weakly to Rock Band.

I still like playing "El Scorcho" personally, but I agree that anyone who has ever listened to it would know that it's not good for the game. Not even vocals because of River's idiosyncratic delivery. I really want "The Good Life". I played it before in Frets on Fire and it works wonderfully.

the pillows are also a most adamant demand. As I'm certain I've said many times before.

I just noticed that the guy at the top of the Drums leaderboard has a career score of 31.5 million. How in the fuck? I'm at 12 million right now and can't see how it would be possible for me to triple my score.

On the topic of great songs that aren't appropriate for Rock Band, as a lover of punk music I know and understand that punk doesn't make the greatest of guitar or drum charts. But that doesn't mean the genre shouldn't be as unrepresented as it currently is. Next weeks releases are doing a good job of correcting this but I'd still like to see a bit of different stuff, perhaps some Ten Foot Pole, Alkaline Trio, Bayside and even moving over to the ska side of things with Less Than Jake and Goldfinger. I'd love to be able to belt out vocals on A Wilhelm Scream or Death By Stereo song. And as an Australian I desperately want bands such as Gyroscope, Frenzal Rhomb, Something With Numbers....I don't really know where I'm going with this as I'm a tad drunk and obviously rambling, but there's quite a lot of ground HMX can cover going forward.

Best Weezer song from Pinkerton would be Falling For You. Alt strumming verses! Awesome vocals! Modest variants in the drumming patterns! A sentimental value to warm your heart!

It bugs me that all the Weezer choices have been incorrect, except for Greatest Man, which is so over the top it had to be put in a video game. They should put out Christmas Celebration by Weezer this December. I'd pay good money.

Nothing from the Blue Album could even remotely be considered an incorrect Weezer choice.

Say It Ain't So is an incorrect choice. It's a pretty boring song. Blue Album is my favourite Weezer album, and SIAS is probably my least favourite on it. But I may be blinded by that simple fact. I guess it's slightly more interesting to play than Surf Wax America would be. Even if it is half the song.

The problem for me is that while I love the Blue Album I find that aside from the singles ("Buddy Holly", "In The Garage", "Undone") I don't really like to listen to individual tracks. They just don't do it for me really. It's something I really have to listen to as an album or I just think the individual songs are sort of mediocre. This is an issue I have with a lot of Weezer albums. I love the album, but I find the songs themselves kind of dull. This means that picking songs has almost always been pretty weak for me. I never liked "My Name Is Jonas" and "Say It Ain't So" just never did anything for me.

I'd be very happy with "In The Garage". Especially since it's one of the few songs I actually know how to play.

Oh and that reminds me speaking of songs that we shouldn't have in the game even though they're awesome "Tonight, Tonight" definitely belongs on that list. That's part of the reason for the strings, otherwise it's really hollow.

I can see where you're coming from. I'm that way with Pinkerton more than Blue though; if I just listen to Getchoo or Across The Sea I'm happy, but when I listen to the whole album I'm significantly happier.

Seriously though, you don't like In The Garage and Undone? COME ON, MAN.
