I won a stride free Rockband song for my PS3, if i input the code does it just put 2 bucks into my wallet or should i wait to redeem the coupon for when i'm actually going to download something?

It puts $2.19 in your wallet. Spend it on whatever you want.

I got the new RB2 Strat, and it's amazing. I think the auto-calibration is almost as useless as the built-in RB2 calibration, but the strum-bar is Jesus in the form of plastic. Completely silent, and down-strumming is just as easy as on the Xplorer.

edit: I also have a new avatar. I think it's an improvement.

So I am about to buy my first rock game. GHWT and RB2 are either out or coming out this month.

This is the RB thread, so I expect heavy RB favoring. I think I agree though.

BUT I've heard that the GH guitars are just plain old better.

What's the story? Should I buy RB2 the game and a GH Guitar? Aren't they compatible?

What would you do if you were about to invest in Rocking?

The real answer is to buy both games, but pick the instrument bundle that you want. GHWT bundle + RB2 game = happiness

And yes, typically people favor the GH guitars. The RB2 guitar is actually solid though.

So the band outnumbered the crowd? And I thought that only happened at ska shows! (I kid, I <3 ska.)

I joke about the numbers because Bottom of the Hill is typically a lot more crowded for just about any other show on any other night. Bang Camaro was amazing, but seriously, there was like 20 people scattered throughout the entire club ... it seemed as though more folks came to support the other bands on the ticket and then bailed out.

Does this man speak the truth??
I have the original RB1 bundle but im looking to replace it either with RB2 instruments or GHW2

GH:WT isn't out yet, so it's hard to give an honest opinion about how it's hardware compares. One would assume RedOctane would make superior stuff to Harmonix.

I personally prefer the Rock Band guitar (especially the new one). It's a little larger than the GH guitar, and it's a lot thinner. I like that, but the REAL reason I like it more is because the neck is a hell of a lot faster. I slide my fingers up and down the keys a lot and that is just a hell of a lot easier to do on the stratocaster than it is to do on the les paul. Also I've grown to hate the clicky strum on the les paul. The start's not clicky and it has a bit more travel (which I'm used to now, I wouldn't call it a plus or a minus, just different).

still no pictures rendered yet, but it showed me what my figurine would look like. $70 frickin dollars....I'l probably buy three

It still only shows my RB1 band from my profile, and when I go to take a picture and select my RB2 character it shows a generic dude and not my customized guy :\

edit: Or do I have to take the photo first before I see my dude?

It's a place holder person, the finished image will have your character in it.

It's supposed to. When you click take picture I think it does the rendering and puts your guy in there with all his clothes. Is my connection shit, or does rendering take an eternity?

Taking a while for me too.

Looks like the character models for 70 bucks are made out of that gritty glittery shit that that WOW figurine that guy bought is made out of.

Well, at least they're way cheaper than the WoW figures.

I thought the duck avatar was awesome man, I'm not feeling the panda with the rainbow thing...it looks kind of gay

Holy fuckin shit!

Figurines...so the REL question is...
...who's making them?

The Warcraft Figureprints guys?

If so...I might have to pass. I REALLY want to see what a figure looks like. Let me decide if I'm gonna recreate the Rainbow PWNYS for my gaming shelf.

When you're at the merch part of the site, click on the "view demo" thing for the figures, and that'll give you a good impression of how they come out.

I got that. I just about made a mess in my pants when I saw my lead guitarist rocking out and it looked EXACTLY like her...

...but it looked like it was a "drawing" of the figure. Which makes sense because there is no way they could show a real image of an entirely random figure.

With that said...I'd just like to see a couple "demo" figures, yanno? Get an idea for the quality.

I'm still boggling from the fact that they are rendering random figures into set poses real time over the interblag.

I don't understand why they don't do it forza/pgr style, render it locally and just upload a jpg.

WTF is up with Aqualung?

Who decided it was a good song, and who decided it should be in RB2? I had to play that 7 minute piece of trash 3 times yesterday, it's starting to rival Kool Thing as my most hated song in a rhythm game ever.

Aqualung is fucking wicked.

Agreed. How can anyone hate it?
It's 7 minutes of the same thing over and over...

I've only got a 3 minute attention span.

Seriously though. The guitar chart is soooooo repetitive and vocals aren't much better. It gives me flashbacks to Kool Thing, another song I don't understand the appeal of. I thought I'd hate singing Bob Dylan the most but no, Jethro Tull steals the crown at the line. Tangled Up In Blue is actually quite fun to sing once you know the lyrics.

Aqualung is one of my favorite songs to sing in the RB2 setlist. :{
