For some reason the red/hi hat songs seem to come easily to me.

Cool, so you should be very good in Run to the Hills...I would love to have that song in RB2 to test my skills now....I had 5 stars in EVERY song on the setlist, gold stars in almost every song...

but...3 stars in Run to the Hills....and 4 stars in Outside =( they were my weak points in RB1, songs that prevented me to reach the top 500.

It would be interesting a match with you, playing Outside, I think you will kill me as you did in Everlong.

Im doing really good in the metal songs now, but I still cant master the "bass R+G bass R+G bass R+G...." parts that come very fast like the ending of Panic Attack....we also have this in the Guitar Solo of Afterlife.

Off Topic Question: I dont speak english, I practice a lot here.... is it right when I say "IN run to the hills....IN Everlong....etc"?....or should I say ON?...or AT?.....

Please dont be rude.......thank you.

So the BOTB challenge added today is called "Dave for a Week," referring to Dave Grohl, for solo drummers only (I was 25th overall last I checked... which was a few hours ago, so I'm probably down to 60th or something now. :/ )

Anyway, look at the setlist:

Learn to Fly
Everlong
In Bloom
Drain You

Isn't Master Exploder conspicuously absent from this Dave-Grohl-drums setlist?

'On' is probably most common, but saying 'in' is perfectly fine, given that songs are pretty much levels in this game, and game levels have an element of place that makes it appropriate. You can say someone beat you 'at' a song, but it's rare to say you played 'at' a song.

Basically, it doesn't matter if you say 'on' or 'in'. Native English speakers butcher the language worse than that. :P

I'd say that "The Hand That Feeds" is far more absent. Still, it looks like they chose to highlight songs where he's a full-time member of the band rather than one-off session work.

Yes, this is entirely correct.

Being on the Internet you are more likely to speak English correctly than the vast majority of native speakers.

Also whatever Queens Of The Stone Age songs he helped out with.

I bet they'd do it incomplete, with a bonus of missing not only Go With the Flow but No One Knows.

Just because they can

I meant Song For The Deaf, not Songs For The Deaf. I've previously expressed my disinterest in having the whole album.

I'm on the crazy-end getting full versions of both.

Right now I'd recommend BOTH games and instruments you prefer.

I almost feel like it should be a poll and I think HMX fucked themselves by releasing early without a bundle. I have a feeling the 'early' purchasers on the 360 will just get the GHWT bundle now since it's all compatible.

I'm VERY interested in seeing the ratio of RB2/GHWT bundles of PS3 versus 360. GHWT will easily outsell RB2 on the 360 I bet.
I've been patiently waiting for the RB2 bundle. I'm going insane only playing RB1 and the crappy solo tours.

Oh. Well No One Knows > Songs for the Deaf so you could see how I would make that mistake

I was in the same boat with RB1. :lol 5 stars on everything with only 4 on RTTH. Unfortunately I'm regretting trading it in since the leaderboards are all screwed up in RB2, so I can't retry it. I would hope I can get 5 now that I've got a more reliable drum set. Nothing is more frustrating then knowing you hit a note but lost the combo because it didn't register.

I "almost" managed to FC Outside once with only a couple of missed notes in RB1. I hadn't tried it yet in RB2. The part that always gets me are the fast bits where my bass drum hand gets flipped...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1n2ulbEaAXc 0:20, 1:00,1:03,1:11 etc. It was mostly luck that one time I nailed all the switches except for the ones at the end of the song. After one fill I have to start the 16th notes with my left hand instead of the right since there are 3 reversals.(Edit, that's the one right at 0:56) If I don't switch my starting hand to the right before the snare hits I'm pretty much screwed.

Don't sweat the English man, like others have already said, you're already much better then most regular posters.

Because it, like everything else they've done, is terrible.

I should have gone to see QotSA last year when they were here :( Went to see Ross Nobel instead I think. Funny guy that one

I'd never seen Queens until that Rock Band party at E3 two years ago. They were fuck awesome. I now intend to see the band every time they hit my hometown.

Rock Band gave you QotSA AND The Who?

Ok gig talk type. Favourite gig so far? Looking forward to? Who was terrible?

I reckon Chris Cornell was my favourite gig ever, it was his tour after Audioslave broke up last year. Played everything from Temple of the Dog all the way to his (then) latest record. He sounded fucking fantastic.

Looking forward to see Franz Ferdinand over new years :D

I'm almost ashamed to say I'm not a huge Neil Young fan. I'd definitely see him if I was going, but the rest of the line up is pretty eehhhh atm. Out of the lineup, the only other bands I'm sorta interested in that I haven't seen are Arctic Monkeys (which I'll go see at a sideshow), TV on the Radio and Cut Copy

Although The Raconteurs are supposed to be rumoured for the next announcement...

Generally speaking, I'm not a gig fan. But when I saw Weezer I got to see a band I love, not get crushed and make my girlfriend a fan. That's a nice combo.

My worst gig was a huge Green Day concert my girl dragged me to. It was hot as hell and outdoors, at the Milton Keynes Bowl. It holds 65k people, I don't know if that many were there though. Suffice to say, it was packed. The tickets said gates open at 2, girlfriend made us get there for 1. NOBODY PLAYED TILL 5. Green Day didn't play till around 7. My neck was sunburnt to hell, and getting drinks took ages. We got out at 9 and had to fucking run to get a train to London. When we got there around 10, the hotel had fucked up and didn't have our room, and had to send us across town to another hotel. I got there at like, 11. Worst fucking day ever.

I don't know how suitable all their stuff would be, as weird as it is to say. But I'm not really a fan of any of the Morello songs so far, charts are all pretty eh to me.

Now the Raconteurs!

Revelations would be a blast.

Now that you say, that's pretty true. Man when Cornell left Audioslave I wasn't too gutted. The worst part was that I didn't get to see any of the Revelations songs live.

I loved that album when it first came out, have barely listened to it since though.

I made my own version of Shackler's Revenge from the RB2 files. Remove the vocals in the verse and you have a song I can enjoy.

Yeah. I love to focus on those bleep bloop outtakes from "My World" and NIN edit trailoffs.

when importing rockband 1 songs into the second game it says you can remove individual songs after. where exactly do you do this?

I'd say the best gig I've seen recently was Ted Leo + the Pharmacists last year. He just put tons of energy into it, played some great songs, and had plenty of legitimate audience interaction.

They Might Be Giants are almost always good for a really great show. It's a shame that while they're almost always gigging they mainly just stay up in the Northeast close to home.

NIN is also great live if you're a fan. Pricey, to be certain, but Trent knows how to put on a great show. If you're going for that sort of big, orchestrated arena show it's definitely quite awesome.

Nothing I'm really particularly looking forward to at the moment. At least that I can think of. Not having the money to spend certainly has caused me to not really pay as much attention as I ought to.

I can't really say I've been to many terrible shows that weren't just shitty local bands, but as I mentioned earlier Battles just did nothing for me. When I say Vampire Weekend at an in-store I also got nothing from them. Could have been bad sound and all, but they came across as a lot more adult contemporary pop live and only half of the thirty minute set was really worth paying attention to. With their type of aesthetic, however, I think they really ought to just stay in the studio. Oh and I saw Imperial Teen last year as well. Small club show, hometown show too and they just were very meh. Maybe they've been at it too long, maybe it was the significant break they've taken recently. Maybe it's that the songs they played from the new album sound rather pants. I just couldn't get into it at all.

Tokyo Police Club also failed to impress me when I saw them last year. Based on the reviews for their album I'm not alone. They have some decent songs, but not enough of them so you get a lot of mediocre filler. "Your English Is Good", however, is a pretty great single.

I think the setting may have contributed to that. I saw them a few months back and they sounded excellent. Not the best show I've ever seen, but they worked really well. Something about the keyboardist bugs me though

Worst for me would have to be either System of a Down or Disturbed. They put on some terrible live shows. Not sure who I would say for best, probably bands most people on here aren't familiar with. Loved Queens of the Stone Age, Children of Bodom, Taproot...Mudvayne puts on one hell of a show too.

Yeah and well... something about them is just a bit too commercial, too poppy and clean-cut and... just very dry. I can't entirely see where all the OMG!! TEH BESTS!! stuff is coming from. I'd heard a few songs before I saw them and thought I could see how they had a somewhat novel sound (for people who didn't grow up hearing Graceland), but I didn't get into it. My girlfriend and a friend of ours both liked the show though. Maybe it's just not entirely to my tastes. Which is odd because I like Graceland and I'm generally fine with this sort of prep-pop when it's done well (e.g. the motherfucking Talking Heads), but yeah... just nothing. I worry that they won't be able to have any lasting impact either.

"A-Punk", however, is certainly fun and catchy and does exactly what a good pop song ought to do.

Edit: Oh, I totally forgot. One of the best shows I've been to was George Clinton eight years ago. It was absolutely hot as hell (late June) outdoors and I forgot how long it was, but like almost every show they started late. Still, I think it was $13 and they played for about three hours or so. It definitely wasn't anywhere close to the best P-Funk show because, well, that was 30 years ago, but he still knew how to bring the funk and leave the audience completely satisfied. Plus, that's a great value. You rarely find bands willing to completely fail to screw you like that.

I went to Austin city Limits fest a week or two ago.

The Good:
Last Foo Fighters show was cool. I guess they are calling it quits ("for a long time") and that was the last show. It was cool.
David Byrne was amazing in his own odd way. I was grinning like a kid through the whole thing.
Yeasayer was fun.
Neko Case was mesmerizing and relaxing after 3 days of rocking.
Same goes for Gillain Welch
Alejandro Esvavedo was good.
Conor Oberst suprised me even if his crowd sucked.
Sharon Jones and the Dap kings was fun.
I was far away from Black Keys but they sounded really good.

The bad:BEck seemed bored and finished early.
Mars Volta had some other drummer and everything sounded like cock rock... Left early dissapointed. Boring.
Racontours were miserable. Jack was having back issues and his heart wasnt in it. The other guy sang for him a lot. The sound was HORRID.
Gogol Bordello started out great and got boring fast.
same for MAn Man.
Dell the Funkay Homosapian was boring as fuck. I couldnt beleive how stupid it was. Clint Eastwood was really stoopid to include.

regretted missing

Gnarles Barkley covered Radiohead and mooned the crowd. I heard we was sick but sounded cool... in a sick way.
Robert Plant and Alison Krauss Anything would have been better...
John Fogerty... sounded good from where I was
Jenny Lewis exept David Brne was awesome.
Vampire Weekend sounded fun, but my wife was holding me up :(

I regret missing these guys, specifically the last time they were here. I'm not the hugest Foo's fan or anything and their new album didn't do it for me, but it sounds like they can put on an amazing show

That makes me sad, two acts that are on my DO WANT TO SEE list. Especially Beck, I hope he's back next year

OK so I'm kind of in a drum predicament. All throughout RB1 I played drums on the normal setting (not lefty flip), however, I am left handed. Playing today I realized I just can't keep up with the speed on some songs as my right arm gets tired pretty fast. So I decided to turn on lefty-flip and head into the drum trainer. It's very weird to play like that but I know my left arm is much more suitable for all the hits on the blue pad, rather than my right arm getting tired from all of the ones on the yellow pad. Should I keep at this, it still feels strange to play on the other side of the kit and I'm not used to the fast hits either but I assume this will help me in the long run, right?

I play on Hard btw so this will most likely help for Expert play.

Yeah man. I'm in the same boat with the Foos. I dont love them, but they were good. Glad I stayed.

I was really exited for Beck, it made me sad. Not even a puppet in sight.

Racontours...
Its funny, I didnt really "get" the white stripes until I saw them live a long time ago. Then I fell in love and got everything they did. I've seen them live several times and its always been a treat.
Even if ICKY THUMP kinda felt lie a step backward for me, I'm a fan forever, because they were so suprising and fun live.

I've never really like the Racontours though. The songs (In my humble oppinion) sound lazy and often feel like a bar band or something. That said, I was sure the live show would blow my face off... :(
It wasnt the fault of the band. Circumstances were bad, I'd like to give them another shot in the future.

ouch...you SHOULD flip and get familiar with lefty mode. Its very important (at least for me) to do the bass kicks with the same foot as your dominant hand...a lot of the basic beats start with a hit for that hand with its respective bass kick. Im not good for explaining things like that....but I tell you, FLIP to lefty mode NOW.

Gig talk: I saw Fucked Up tonight w/ Vivian Girls. Fucked Up are always fun live, but otherwise I'm not too into them. Vivian Girls were great, though, and pretty much the reason that I went. Their self-titled record is one of the best debuts of the year. But the best part of the show was the fact that it was ONLY these two bands and it ended early enough for me to catch a train home — that NEVER happens.

As for all-time favorites... fuck, I wouldn't even know where to start. I guess I'll just mention the Oops! Tour from '02, since that was one of the best all-around shows I've ever been to: The Locust, Lightning Bolt, Arab on Radar, Wolf Eyes, and Orthrelm. Crazy night. But yeah, I don't know; I'm from Boston, which is definitely one of the top live music cities in the US, so while I've seen tons of amazing shows, I'm not going to bother namedropping them.

Staccat0: you're probably the only person I've ever heard call Gogol Bordello's live performance boring, haha. I've never seen them, though, so I can't comment. Same with Man Man, but their new album was terrible, so I'll reserve comment.

Oh I know!:lol
Everyone told me otherwise ahead of time.
At first they were AMAZING, but it was just the same schtick over and over. I know I sound like a yuppie here, but it just got tired. I know I'm a huge minority though. I felt the same about the album I have though. LKistened to it a lot for a week and then never again.

Man Man, may as well be a Tom Waits tribute band at this fucking point.:lol They pulled some crazy stunts, dont get me wrong, but the songs started to run together. I'll take Tom thank you:D

We should have Boston vs. Austin local music argument some day. I know nothing about boston's scene other than its supposed to be good... but it would be funny... too me.

I forgot to mention, that first bit I also have to start with my left hand (0:20) but right away it's naturally back to Right/kick. Are you using the QM set where hard fast hits cause dropped notes? I skipped the sock mod and used a couple of folded up chunks of paper jammed into the rim on the red and green drums to cut down the vibration. I'm not sure if it works better or worse then the sock mod since I hadn't tried the latter but it did a great job of letting me hit fast and hard for the red/hi-hat parts. It would still miss notes occasionally on the blue for some other reason, but I had good luck with that plus it didn't mess up the rebound on the drums (what little there was LOL) I posted a pic a while ago in this thread, I'll see if I can find it later. It may be less relevant now that you've got a RB2 set.

This guy has some good lessons on drums and I particularly liked his Fill lessons. It helped me out a lot after practicing it for a couple of hours. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2p7mTpxPAo

edit: found it..

so i went to this rock band tournament thing for best buy, sponsored by rock band live. based on style points and accuracy (and by accuracy it's by percentage, and everyone is on fucking easy).

we got second because some guy had platform shoes and got extra fucking style points. SHITTY.

still got tickets to rock band live tonight, where dashboard confessional, plain white t's and panic at the disco played.

dashboard was pretty awesome. they played el scorcho, which was <3.
aaaand panic at the disco = <3, although their new album didn't grab me like their old one.

AND THATS IT!

edit: so don't listen to anyone who tells you playing rock band will get you nowhere. IT GETS YOU FREE TICKETS. FUCK YEAH.
