The Fred Meyer in Auburn, WA had Rock Band 2 (PS3) out for sale today.

I pick up a copy and take it over to the register, totally playing dumb. It doesn't ring up. I keep playing dumb. The gal working the register figures out that it's out early and can't be sold until Sunday. I play the sad puppy card. Doesn't work.

I HAD ROCK BAND 2 IN MY HANDS AND IT WAS TAKEN FROM ME! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Wait B3yond

lol j/k

Any site that has a good write up on the exact differences between the RB1 kit and the RB2 kit? Guitar and Drums to be more specific, I doubt the improved the mic that much :lol

Is this Rock Band 2 related?
No, just general music related. And as a thread of opinionated music fans, I couldn't think of anywehre else to say :P

However, I can say Rock Band 2 will feature at EA's Be The One event at half term. I don't know if it's publically playable or not - last year they told me RB1 was, but it turned out to be a demo on stage. >: (

Looking to DL 2 or 3 Motley Crue songs. Which are the best (good balance of all instruments at medium or relatively hard difficulty as well as the song being good)? Thanks

Yeah, Fred Meyer is one of those stores with locks in the software/machines. Them and K-Mart, where I originally tried to get RB1 a week early. :(

Rattlesnake Shake for a bit of challenge, Dr. Feelgood for familiarity, Same Old Situation for fun. None of the songs are overtly difficult, all pretty much medium, with the exception of Rattlesnake Shake on guitar. Most, however, are very fun to play.

Off the top of my head, Trooper, YYZ, Misirlou, Free Bird and Hangar 18 (I totally thought I had this too) are on there for me.

I could prolly do at least half of those on another attempt but unless I do them all it's just wasted time!

Weird. I got all of them on Hard (and most on Expert) a while back, before GH3 at least. "Free Bird" was actually one of the easier ones. I think I got it the second time I played it or so. The last song I got was "Institutionalized", but yeah, "Hangar 18" and "Misirlou" were definitely up there.

You guys probably already know but this is great news for Wii owners;

“There have been some mixed messages in gaming press, but I’m happy to confirm that the Wii Guitar Hero 3 guitar will be compatible with Rock Band 2 for the Wii. We wanted to clarify for all the Wii Rockers that have expressed confusion regarding this compatibility, and reassure that Harmonix will continue to advocate wide-ranging compatibility for instruments across music platforms.”

-HMXHenry, developer at Harmonix

Hopefully this means drums too!

Supposedly this is the Rockband stage kit in use. It looks like the strobe is indeed triggered by the music...I'm totally getting this.
And completing my total nerd transformation
The red looks pretty weak though. :oP

They must have an earlier revision on their website since the interface looks different. I'm guessing the PS2 port plugs into the fogger.

This is still totally not selling med on the idea that this is not terrible. Ignoring the cost even. It just looks very dim, weak, and it doesn't seem to be synchronized to the lighting cues in the game by and large.

Also I will state that if you do not use pyrotechnics you are pussies.

OK, playing the tracks on medium difficulty helps me none. While Expert would be nice, they should at least play it on Hard, especially on the bass. I can watch a Hard track and see what would be added to make it Expert...but trying to watch a medium track to see what the hard or expert tracks would be like is nearly impossible.
Pointless fucking videos...not like we don't know the songs.

So I don't know if my Best Buy is going to have the Rockband 2 kit on sunday, but if they do I'll probably end up getting it. Apparently the new guitar is much quieter (YES!) has a firmer strum bar, and the drums look nice too... And the price of game+drums separate is basically the cost of the kit anyways :lol

If you want to rock your light show old school (and I know that you do because this is the correct way) you gotta go with an oil wheel. Thinkgeek has one for a not terrible price ($90) compared to the licensed light package.

When you want to get serious dropping $2,000 on this laser system, however, would probably be quite awesome.

Damn, now I really want to see some laser Zeppelin or Pink Floyd at the planetarium. Except the planetarium just re-opened and probably is not going to be doing something that awesome.

Even worse is watching people play medium badly.

I mean, I understand having a little trouble on Hard or Expert. Missing a couple of notes every once in a while. Not doing so great on solos and such. It's cool. But when you see someone playing Medium and having trouble hitting notes that are that far apart you have to wonder whether they're paying attention at all. Seriously, it's not that hard. It never was that hard even when I first started playing. I mean, these aren't even people screwing up on the tough solos in challenging songs, but just failing to hit notes in basic 4/4 patterns.

Basically, but not quite. You'll be paying roughly $40 for the guitar assuming you don't care about the mic. The guitar sells solo for $70 so you're really saving about $30 off the cost of a guitar or paying $40 more than you need depending on how you look at it.

I'm torn myself. I need drums and I hate the damn Nyko guitars I have (I would never have bought this crap, I got them as part of a bundle deal for my system), but I'm not sure I want to spend an extra $40 for something when I don't really need to. I'd rather buy another game with that money.
