At least there's a point to it beyond "play this song again because the band happens to be from this city and we don't want to use too much DLC".

Plus, this isn't career mode.

I imagine the challenges just track your performance each time you play, so there's no need to specifically replay the song to try and achievement gold on challenge 11, for example.
But there isn't a point, that's the problem. The fact that they're making it 40 stars per song completely devalues the point of getting stars. Just like the GH5 challenges any random person with an ounce of skill can go to medium and do more than half of them.

Ask Archie if he knows any more, he's kinda taken over this role now.

I only went to medium for like, 2 challenges :smug:

This whole argument is silly when they still have regular old Quickplay mode in there. Moar features = bad isn't an argument I can subscribe to. Nobody is going to be "wow, I got 29 stars on Sudden Death, that's way better than the 6 star FC you got on it in Quickplay!"

What exactly is the point to it? Its still the same shit as Band World Tour but with different packaging.

The sad thing is there will be dumbshits that will play every song 13 times to get the achievements/trophies.

What's the point of giving you more tasks to do on a song? I don't know, to give the game some replay value? It's not exactly a complex idea. It's nothing at all like Band World Tour because it's not something progression is based around. I will never in my life have to play Bleed It Out by Linkin Park more than once.

That's the point. You can sit there and do almost all of them on expert all you want, random person can go and do them on medium and get as many stars as you. That's so awesome! Except for the part where it's not:lol

I'm not arguing that the inclusion of it makes it a worse game, I'm arguing your claim that its inclusion makes it GOTY material, hyperbole or not.

"Some people will try to exploit the lower difficulties" isn't a good reason for why I won't enjoy trying to get 40 stars on a song on expert. It's like saying because people get an achievement for beating Halo on casual, why should you even bother playing Legendary?

Because you get a better achievement for beating Halo on Legendary of course:lol The main point I'm getting at is, as we know, you love stars. You've made this very clear. The thing is by making there be more stars it only serves to devalue them and give no incentive for those that play on expert as compared to medium. You could sit there and play you heart away and say you got like 3000 stars but someone playing on medium could have some number close to that with much less skill. When you compare those star counts it kills the value in it, not only because the person with much greater skill does not have a larger gap in total stars, but because you have so fucking many. I'm guessing this just boils down to our own personal perspectives, but at the end of the day I don't see this being a very strong reason to consider GH6 GOTY, or even music GOTY.

People can get 5 stars on medium already. OH NOES, MY EXPERT 5 STARS MEAN NOTHING?

And the GOTY shit is just joking man, I got no reason to not think RB3 is gonna be awesome. WoR seems to going for my particular pallet though.

Never said I liked that either. I prefer more separation ala GH2/3. Being forced to choose your difficulty before hand which then allowed for separate score displays. If I had my way you could just toggle the difficulty on the song select menu, which would allow for the separation that I prefer:lol Though I understand how that wouldn't work for multiplayer.

I know it's just hyperbole, that's just what I was basing my points off of. Not that the feature 'ruined teh game!!1' just that I didn't think it added anything terribly significant. Really as far as I'm concerned new modes don't mean anything for GH, all I need is a better engine and I'll probably buy it just for moar rhythm gaming:lol

So just a little spot of hyping up Herlathing. Finished drums, so I've started guitar. Second solo is simple, so I'm doing that. It's just steady fast strumming over five pitches for about 45 seconds.

Fast, in this context, is 32nd notes. At 80BPM, sure, but that hits about 93ms between notes. Almost as fast as the sweeps in Bodhisattva. (75ms is the unofficial strum limit.) And, to my ear at least, that's the easy solo.

So... yea. Getting kinda glad I got this one.

The challenges we know of so far are all streak based or score based. It's unlikely you can play on medium and get the full 40 stars.

Besides, like I said, I'm playing single player. For the most part it doesn't even occur to me to worry what some scrub on medium is doing.

Even if we ignore the entire medium vs. expert thing, I still think jacking the number of stars up completely devalues them. It's just not something that sounds interesting to me, especially given the fact that the regular quickplay and the challenge one are separated. It segregates things in a weird way, seeing as how one quickplay is the 'serious' one but the other quickplay is the challenge one and yet the only incentive to be found there is to randomly replay songs you don't have all the challenges done on. Shit lets see if I can get a 50 phrase streak on Dance, Dance vox!
Do not want at ALL.
The worst part is there will be achievements tied to it and I'll feel compelled to try to get some of them assuming they fix the engine and I buy it.

The engine is just going to be Band Hero with minor tweaks, so if you need a major fix for something you're probably not getting it.

And yeah, we're not going to agree. I'm as befuddled by your viewpoint as you probably are by mine :p

Band Hero fixed the glitch in GH5 expert drums that pissed me off so that'll be a good first step. Drums still feel sloppy but passable I guess. That glitch and calibration are the main annoyances I had.

I see your viewpoint, and I understand where you're coming from, but I think we just want different things:lol

This is a must for anyone other than you to play it.
It's a simple 10 step plan!

Step 1) Buy Avon by QOTSA.
Step 2) Go to practice mode.
Step 3) Put a towel or something over your screen so you can only see the hit box (optionally, just try to ignore the rest of the screen).
Step 4) Play song by ear, watch notes explode.
Step 5) If the note passes the hitbox, add audio lag. If it doesn't reach the hitbox, lower it. Adjust till perfect.
Step 6) Slow the track down
Step 7) Mute the sound.
Step 8) Experiment with seeing how early or late you can hit a note.
Step 9) Adjust the video lag so you can hit as early as you can late
Step 10) Enjoy Guitar Hero!

Just so it's on topic, this is how I calibrated RB2 too, only I think I used The Middle instead of Avon. Any kind of auto-calibration, be it hardware or software, is bad.

My feeble mind cannot understand written steps, only spoken ones.

Probably getting GH6 on PS3 to avoid the shitty 360 lag.

2ms monitors don't need calibration, fix yo shyt m$
Or just spend 10 minutes calibrating it and play on a superior platform.

Don't you dare get RB3 on PS3 :(

Depends. I'm not interested in any 360 exclusives this year and if m$ doesn't come up big at E3 (games, not terrible motion control bullshit) then I'll probably get rid of this 360. The extra RBN content really isn't worth it to me, and none of my friends have 360s. Did I mention you guys don't talk? Yea, that's another big turn off. Even Belgand used a mic when we played full band with him, and he hates me!

Alan Wake is definitely on my to rent list though.

u right

I've been loving Sony since I was a little boy with Legend of Dragoon, Chrono Cross and Final Fantasy 9 all on the same console.

I kinda love you and October too, boi.

Grooveshark isn't an illegal operation?
I don't think it is. Lots of bands/labels make their new albums available for streaming to advertise it.

They even have a link on the song to buy it from ITunes/Amazon.

Cork, fuck talking, I need someone on my friends list to try and beat scores by.
Did you ever beat my score on The End? I'm surprised I FCed that song with bad calibration. I only had one Beatles guitar FC to go too :(

and because I can multitask while playing FF9, here's some awesome songs with keyboard that should be in RB3 plz:

Dream Theater - Under a Glass Moon
Children of Bodom - Silent Night, Bodom Night
Black Sabbath - Air Dance
Between the Buried and Me - Selkies: The Endless Obsession
Dark Tranquillity - Her Silent Language
King Crimson - Indiscipline
Liquid Tension Experiment - Acid Rain
Muse - Bliss
Opeth - The Grand Conjuration
Pink Floyd - Dogs
Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet
Rainbow - Stargazer
Rush - Xanadu
Rx Bandits - It's Only Another Parsec...
Riverside - Egoist Hedonist
Sublime - Doin Time (Uptown Dub)

If RB3 doesn't have a Dream Theater song I'd be really shocked.
Hopefully it's not Pull Me Under or anything off Octavarium/Systematic Chaos.

CSB, I've probably not played guitar on Beatles in forever. It's a karaoke game.
yea but it was still cool having both of us in the top 5 in the world on While My Guitar Gently Weeps. We're probably so far down now, fuckin scorehero nerds.

If you really wanna compare scores on RB3 get a PS3. Me and October are cooler than the people you play with on 360.

Or you two can do as they did in the stone age and take screen shots of your scores lol.

I have the most fun playing Guitar/vox. I got the LE with mic stand so I have to use it. I only paid 120 for it though. I sold the beatles and wanted it again and fortunately for me the bundle was cheap, so it really worked in my favour.

@ashour, there is keldon so we don't have to do that. But that doesn't work with guitar hero, heh stupid guitar hero.

If there's no Beatles style leaderboards then I'm gonna have to not give a shit about scores, again. RB2 leaderboards are more of an inconvenience than anything.

They were in RB1 too, but at least we had stars on the menu. They HAVE to be like beatles, I'm sure they know fans liked the beatles set up and will work it into 3. If greenday is the same and RB3 isn't I'll shit a brick.

I honestly only played RB1 for a couple of days after I beat it and went back to GH2 customs. The setlist was god awful for guitar and the game was unplayable because of no hyperspeed.
