Right now I just want to see some charts for high tier expert pro keys. As it's the first game in the series with this instrument I'm curios as to how difficult they're willing to get. Nothing announced so far seems very tricky, of course that doesn't really mean anything.

agreed. And not to be a dick but... having a good publisher in the USA is important. It's the freaking UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

These are all Harmonix games and these are the only games in the plastic instrument genre that have introduced new instruments to the general public in the United States in the last 5 years.

probably still not completely accurate but come on...

yea - I'm right there with you MPS. I know I was running around saying that if it was a keytar or if they didn't chart for two hands I'd jump off of a building BUT - this whole halftar / realtar development had me at hello so the keyboard is just icing on an already amazing cake.

I don't expect much use of two hands and not much use of real serious piano playing either.

Most of the songs they've announced so far have really simple synth kinds of parts without real epic 4 note chords on both hands (the kind of stuff I was hoping for)

Basically - they want you to be able to play it standing up - which is lame but w/e.

I want to play lady gaga bass and guitar on it. that would be fun.

Break On Through is surely going to be tricky. I may loathe The Doors with every fiber of my being, but I can't deny that both Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger were both excellent at their respective instruments.

And why are you saying that? It allows for a strap correct (for those hipster idiots who want a keytar), but they're also selling a stand for it as well. I'm not sure if it's included or not (probably not). Do you have no lap that you set the keyboard in either? :P

That's actually one of their simplest songs on both instruments. The guitar will be no higher than tier 1 and I have no idea how any keys tiers look but it won't be hard.

I mean yea - there's going to be a stand but... idk.. based on the songs that have been announced it seems like they're aiming at more casual keys players and also - it's only two octaves.

I'll play the harder stuff sitting down for sure or at least on a stand but it seems like most of it is easily playable standing up keytar style (which I'll probably still do on expert because I can and well... I've never played a wireless stap-on keytar before)

Pro mode is a new set of difficulties (Easy, Medium, Hard, and Expert) that will actually show you accurately corresponding notes and chords. It is a big deal, especially on the keyboard, because the basic keyboard difficulties (regular Easy, Medium, Hard, and Expert) won't even really be worth bothering with, as they utilize only five keys and it's basically going to play akin to guitar/bass.

Lol fair enough. So far I don't think they've shown anything above mid-tier (I hope). I really do want it to be harder than it appears so far. I guess there's RB4. :P

HMX really dropped the ball for RBN on the PS3. No preview SUCKS on unknown bands. I have no idea if there are any I would actually enjoy. :/ And hard does not equal fun in my book so I won't go buying blind.

Medium guitar isn't worth bothering with, but for some reason most people play it!

The chart only shows 18 different keys at any one time, which isn't enough to play "proper" two handed parts. There's going to be times when you won't be playing all the notes the real keyboardist is. You'll still be playing the right notes, you just won't be playing all of them.

Break on Through doesn't sound that hard on keyboard, but maybe I'm mistaken.

The highway actually shifts around when it calls for a note that's higher up on the keyboard. You can see it in action in a couple of the preview videos. It's a clever and elegant solution to what could have been a big problem in both solo play and band play.

Yes, I know, you've missed my point entirely. What happens when a keyboardist plays a chord which needs more than the range of 18 keys? Something will be compromised, and it's probably going to be whatever the left hand is playing.

I really couldn't tell you; I'd be surprised if Harmonix didn't think of this already, but I think it's going to be one of those things where we won't know for sure until it's in our hands.

That's why the people arguing against Pro mode sound ridiculous. Without Pro mode, the keys would be a complete gimmick.

Edit: Well, not arguing against, but saying it will have very limited appeal. For guitar, sure, but for the keyboard, no. Easy Pro will probably be doable for most people.
