Rockstar Games Announces 4 New Versions of L.A. Noire coming November 14, 2017

How genuine is the detective portion of this game? Are we talking Sherlock Holmes: Crime & Punishment or something worse?
It's more a chill point and click game in 3d, where nearby clues are denoted by jazz music. The hard part is divining if the character's portrayed emotions match up with what the game expects, which is where the rigidness of the game loop comes in.

It actually did quite well. Not GTA numbers, of course, but a new IP doing nearly a million in its first month is nothing to sneeze at.

Max Payne 3, on the other hand, was definitely a big commercial disappointment.

Max Payne 3 IS a big disappointment.

but people say that for everything
not harping on you by the way, i just think is funny when the posts start appearing. its alright to be excited for new games

Thanks for clearing that up, what a relief, I too was thinking about getting this on the Nintendo Switch entertainment system over my other video game systems and I was thinking for a moment or two there might be serious consequences for being excited for videogames on certain systems over others based on one's own subjective preferences.

Glad this crisis was resolved amicably :)

Seems super weird that they waited this long to announce it, especially considering there were rumors about this like six months ago, but whatevs

Maybe I'll get the Switch version at some point. L.A. Noire was one of those games I always wanted to try but just never got around to.

If it visually isn't as impressive as what the X, Pro, or PC has then it's kind of an inferior experience. Normally I don't say graphics matter, especially for Switch ports. But a game where the majority of it's gameplay is looking closely at character faces, graphics have to matter in this situation, especially outside of interrogating people is pretty mediocre. I don't see gyro aiming improving the combat which was completely unnecessary in the game.

Idk, fuck it, I hope it looks good on Switch.
It can't help but look better than the versions it originally came out on, so I don't see why this is an issue.

I remember this game looking horrible, especially the city, textures had this faded look and the draw distance was really short.

I'm really curious about how the remaster will look. Announcing this without screens and stuff is weird.

I loved LA Noire but I don't see the point of re-buying it personally since I already have it for PC with all DLC.
Great for people that haven't played it yet though.

So this is usually the part that I think makes the game hard to recommend to people that want a more investigative game, since there's really not much pure investigation. One of the big bullet points the game had was that the cases continue even if you're going in the wrong direction, but what that really meant in practice is that the cases are designed in such a way where you will eventually get forced into the right direction in order to get its story to a similar conclusion. This isn't to say that there isn't some branching involved, but the cases themselves do have a fairly rigid structure that they have to follow regardless of the player's competency level, so there's a sense of being along for the ride, which may not be what you're looking for.

Would that even be expected? I dialled back to see how the originals ran and they didn't really hold performance at 720p back then. With the Switch's Skyrim (albeit a derivative of the Special Edition) being 720p, it wouldn't have surprised me that this would have been the case here. And 720p is the native for the screen, so not a big deal I would say.

Has this actually been confirmed? All recent reports regarding Skyrim Switch (Eurogamer, IGN) were referring to the handheld mode which is obviously going to be 720p. If there'd be no visual upgrades at all over a title that is even slightly older than Skyrim I'd definitely be disappointed. It's been 6 years after all.

I have no idea why this game is coming back, did people actually think it was good? I mean I understand that people have different tastes but if there was ever a Rockstar game to resurrect and port it sure as hell isn't this one.

Waiting for Switch screenshots, although game was a total borefest

To me it always felt more like a throwback adventure game that Sierra might have made. Really chill game to just kick back, play a case at a time, and enjoy the ride while it lasts.

it's quite telling that their solution to the open world problem is just adding more collectibles though. not that it will make any significant difference in alleviating its problems. new people, just let your partner drive you everywhere and enjoy the banter, you won't miss much

you know as well as i do that some people indeed get upset by the "perfect for switch" posts and i wanted to make clear to that poster that i wasn't attacking his enthusiasm, out of education if anything. but carry on with your sarcasm

Exactly, which is why gesture controls and fleshed out hd rumble are bigger boons. The game getting a portable version that has more "gameplay" features is worth picking up over a pc downport that changes nothing.
How in God's name does gesture control add to the gameplay? "Oh my God, let me flick my joycon to flip my notepad."

That's totally a worthy gameplay feature to call it the definitive version.

I hope the Switch version sells enough for Rockstar to port other games to Switch. Portable versions of their games would bring me back to the PSP days.

Rockstar Games support on my Switch?

This is something I definitely never would've thought possible. Don't even care that it's the PS360 version apparently. That version looked great already (and still does in my opinion).

For the record: I liked L.A. Noire until the last (or so) chapter. Even though I really didn't understand much of its story for some weird reason.

Rockstar had 3 games on Wii, Table Tennis, Manhunt and Bully, so this is not a surprise to me

Also I agree game looks great already on 360/PS3 holds up well.

Okay ill be the first one to admit, i didn't get shit out of their emotion system.
Everyone looked like they were giving me a retarded meandering face when i questioned them, and then i just pressed a random button.

You don't know how the gesture controls are going to work yet. Hopefully we have gyro aiming like Breath of the Wild and Resident Evil Revelations.

Switch is apparently outsourced port of the PC version.

Remaster for PS4/XB1 done in-house by a small team. No direction on who did the VR stuff.

PC version will not be updated.

waggle to pres... i mean doubt people

waggle harder for the full phelps effect

Great stuff. Loved the story of this game, especially when I replayed it and realizes how intertwined most of the cases were.

Not sure if I'll double dip though.

I highly doubt gyro aiming is gonna make the cover shooting less boring. The game only had 2 big cover shooting segments.
