Great match from Gulbis. More time for Roger to look after his twin boys I guess. Roger showed some good form in the fourth set, which I hope he brings to Wimbledon.

Federer should retire when he feels like it. It's his career. Nothing will diminish his legacy, of course decline is to be expected past 30.

Commentators sound puzzled. Gulbis beating Federer in a slam was NID. Some people need to pay the fuck attention.

Gulbis will be at least the number 13 after the French Open. If Berdych wins against Gulbis in the quarter-finals he will become the new number 4 (no way Ferrer will win against Nadal to prevent that).

If Gulbis wins against Berdych, he will reach the Top10.

Niraj

I shot people I like more for less.
Federer should retire at this point.

If he loses the US Open he will definitely retire. But I can't see him going without at least attempting to get 14.

Federer should just retire already before he ruins his legacy any further.

You know what I mean, Fed is on the massive decline right now where he used to be untouchable. Not just losing to Nadal but more and more players scattered throughout the top 10.

People have been saying this for years. That's just from the first 8 pages or so of the general tennis thread searching for "retire." After these posts he won four slams, so who knows what could happen.

Gulbis finally doing something good in his career.

Someone needs to gif that smash on set point Federer had in the second.

I officially don't care if Novak wins today. 1) Because Federer is gone (Lord knows I don't like him, lol) and Gulbis is back in the QFs. Like I said before, I don't expect Novak to win RG anyway. People really underestimate Nadal here.

But people underestimate Gulbis. He's unpredictable and it a supreme talent. People call him a ball basher, and yet had Federer scrambling to unsuccessfully get those drop shots. He has finesse AND power.

Gulbis will further cement his legacy here.

Same old talk every time. Fed will retire when he choses to. Losing to an inform Gulbis in 5 set is not such a shame that he should retire because of it.

Yea I don't get some of the claims. Yes, he's older. Yes, he's past his prime. Yes, he's slowly fading away, but the key word is slowly. He hasn't flamed out and has remained competitive the past couple years.

He may not take any more majors, but Fed still has another couple solid years of tennis left in him.

Federer will play into his 40s...or until he physically can't compete anymore. Also, his legacy is defined by his wins, not his defeats.

Love Gulbis' attitude, must've been what tennis players were like in the 80's (McEnroe, Lendl, Connors) and not just go flaccid when it counts.

Gulbis has routinely gone flaccid at every chance of a real breakthrough before, don't think he will break that proud tradition anytime soon.

Jesus, this day turned from potentially awesome to absolute shit.

Fed's match was crap.
Tsonga is playing like shit.

Goddamn.
