Ronald D. Moore talks about the god of war tv series.

https://www.ign.com/articles/ronald...ing-to-emulate-the-tone-of-the-game-sdcc-2025

1: Mentions that the show will try and emulate the tone of the games in terms of the story being about an epic journey between two men trying to honor kratos's wife and atreus's mother.

2: Atreus will be a big part of the show.

3: Is excited to work on the show and is going to try and do the show justice by getting the story right and the characters right.

4: Hints at us seeing the earlier interpretation of kratos aka angry greece kratos in the show.

Edit: I screwed up making this post and i'll do better on my next post before posting it. Should've had the bullet points written out before posting. My bad.

A one note angry Kratos would probably only work for 1 movie, or a few episodes (in a TV show). People get bored, God of War Ascension is all the proof anyone should need.

It shouldn't need to be said that TV is an entirely different medium and the focus has to be on character interactions, development etc.

Gran Turismo - Surprisingly good
Twisted Metal - Surprisingly fun
TLOU Season 1 - Pretty good
TLOU Season 2 - Pretty bad

So far Sony are 3/4 for me with TV/Movies.

I'm cautiously optimistic on this considering his credibility.

Edit: On a side note, I think something taking place in the Killzone universe(like Shadowfall or Mercenary) would make for a great grounded action series.

Ascension wasn't boring because of the same Angry Kratos though.

And while I think you are correct that it likely wouldn't work well as a TV show, especially because of budget reasons, the alternative is bringing in Atreus the little annoying gen z offspring that no one likes.

I rather they tried to do the original games and instead made characters out of Kratos, his wife, Zeus, Hera and Ares and whatever. Maybe bring in Kratos's brother.

Ascension is a game that wasnt marketed well, was debatably just another entry in the gow series that nobody at that point wanted.it has nothing to do with kratos being angry

This shouldnt even exist. GOW can only work with an insane budget for insane spectacle and visuals. It doesnt sound like this is that. They're gonna try to go for the TLOU style more intimate story of honoring the mother so they can lower the budget. Also this guy hasn't even played the game.

Nah, disagree.
Lucas Hood in Banshee could be described the same way, and that show kicked ass.

Except that Kratos is only full-rage mode in God of War III. In I, he is much more nuanced and the game starts with him wanting to commit suicide. The entire game isn't event spent raging and killing every god that comes his way.

People seem to only recall Greek Saga Kratos from God of War III. He had quite a bit of characterization in I and II.

It was always going to be dad of War.
Doing the old GOW justice in live action would requiere an insane budget.

Dad of war can be done cheaper. Spend on 2-3 cool action setpieces and the rest is just a bunch of scenes of characters, mostly Kratos and Atreus, talking about their feeling shot on a Volume style set.

A Killzone prequel show would be awesome, here's a recap in case anyone is interested.
You could make an awesome show of sci fi political intrigue with this.

I was hoping the show would explore its own original story like Kratos' journey to Norway and how he met Faye etc instead of just retelling the first Norse game in TV show form.

As someone who just gave up on For All Mankind after 2 seasons, I'm not exactly hopeful.

The show's formula is basically:
- 10 minutes of thrilling (expensive) outer space action and suspense
- 50 minutes of human drama, which consists of someone doing something infuriatingly stupid so that there can be a source of drama and a problem for the characters to solve
- plenty of stunning and brave girlbosses to set the men straight (although nobody in this show is immune from doing something stupid when the show needs some more drama to fill the time)

Toward the end my wife and I were openly mocking the show. We figured that you should just predict every character will make stupidest and most reckless decision possible, and you'll probably be right.

This. Just cancel this shit already. They already raped the game franchise.

One of the problems of the TLOU show is that by making Joel softer and Ellie rougher from the starting point, they reduced the impact of their respective dramatic arcs. They became meaningless. Very little is said about Joel's miscast, as terrible as Ellie's.

So, multiply that by ten and you get GOW. In the game it gets a pass because of the "game" part, story is always a secondary thing. However, in a TV show this problem will be at the forefront. A character that is already melancholic doesn't have an interesting evolution, his story ends at the same point where it started. The peak moment of GOW 2018 being a callback to the original trilogy tells us everything about how flawed the new arc is.

Oh yeah, the same Sony market research department that release Morbius 3 times at row?
Same geniuses yes!, mark my words that show will focus way too much on Atreus's sexuality, since he is more than likely going to be bisexual
