My sister just told me that the theater she went to was packed and it's guaranteed that she's going to see it a second time. Cameron prints money indeed.

"mr. cameron how do you feel about the criticism of your story being similar to past films?"

"Billion dollars in 2 weeks. Next Question"

"Mr Cameron, how do you feel about Avatar being the possible contender for number 1 top grossing movie of all time, Titanic?"

Damn, it's not surprising that Worthington's accent was slipping. Dude's natural Aussie twang is thick. I'm a lot more impressed with his attempts at an American accent after hearing his natural one.

He's barely understandable with his Aussie accents. Made me wonder what kind of training he went through to get that US accent.

I saw it this afternoon, and was a little surprised to find a packed theater (I hadn't followed any of the box office stuff, so I really didn't know what to expect).

Gorgeous movie... the story is rather predictable, but it's still very entertaining to watch it all play out. 3D gave me a bit of a headache, but the effect was great once I got used to it.

Mojo updated with yesterday's Monday take overseas, which was $37m. Total WW Monday box office was $56.5m.

World-wide total now stands at $726m.

Up to #39 on the all-time chart, ahead of Transformers. Next stop: 2012.

Holy shit :lol

It's deserving though, so I'm fine with that.

*Looks closer at the list* All of the Harry Potter movies are in the top 24 of all time 0_0 ... and 3 are in the top 10?!?!!? Holy fuck.

DONT GET ME STARTED AGAIN! RAAAGGEE! I still cant believe that the ENTIRE song before, and after that 30 seconds is played in the movie.
What really sucks is that clipped section would be perfect for the "Eywa hears your" cue, instead of the trumpety cliche we got.

Is it just me or did anyone else keep thinking of Zorro every time that musical chord came up in Avatar? (yes, I know they are the same composer)

The one piece of music i didnt like was when the triceratops type things attack the mech suits. Made me feel like i was watching pokemon for some reason.

I took my roommate to see it yesterday. Was my second full viewing of it. What kind of bugged me was how quick Jake got his Avatar body. There was hardly any build up to it, showing up in, like, 15-20 minutes, and he's off gallabanting around. I know it's the title of the movie and all, but they didn't show claw one of an alien in Aliens for a good hour (hell, I'm watching it on AMC now and the marines are JUST now about to get their asses kicked hour fifteen in).

From what I understand, there was supposed to be more Jake on earth footage. I'd think the movie might have worked better if they showed more how losing his ability to walk skewed with his personality. Like, he never backs down from a challenge and all, but there's still a hint that he is dissapointed at what could have been. That would have made his first ride in his Avatar that much more cathartic.

Oh yeah, and Rodriguez was humbly cute in this movie :)

Are you talking about the four notes of doom that appear in 90% of Horner's scores?

Listening to the track "War" on the soundtrack, and damn he hasn't unleashed the orchestra like this since maybe Wrath of Khan.

Again, ate my crow months ago when I saw the Avatar Day preview. I was, and still kinda am, butt hurt over The Last Airbender losing the Avatar title. Water under the fucking amazing movie bridge though.

It was awesome when know-nothings were saying this wouldn't appeal to women.

On a related note, I just got off the phone with a girlfriend of my wife's, who wanted to take her to see Avatar tonight. (The wife is out of town for the week.)

Her husband was balking at 3D ticket prices, and I talked her into going. Solo. To the showing in one hour. In 3D.

Now, she's not into action movies. She's hauled my wife to every chick flick that she can manage, but she's going because her circle of (female) friends at church was buzzing that it's so amazing.

I'm talking about a (Mormon) church group of housewives ranging from their mid 30's to 50's hyping each other up to see Avatar in 3D.

The movie is going to make so much fucking money. :lol

I thought you had, but it was just funny reading that post with your current Avatar avatar next to it.

This song is so great!
I listened to the ST, all day at work, and the whole soundtrack has little nods to Braveheart, and Titanic, this song included!
Ans this song starting at 2:02 is sooo epic, I kind of agree about the lack of a "main theme", it also needed a neytiri theme!

Best song in the movie imo. Loved that entire sequence of the movie. I just bought the soundtrack and the 3 books off amazon. Also bought a couple of the movie posters. Next up...who knows, but my friend who is back in town Friday wants to go see this in 3D since his town has no 3D theaters so I guess a 5th time is in store way faster than I thought I would see it again :lol

Probably the thing that bothered me the most was the Loony Toons physics near the end.

When the bad guy in the mech basically stepped out of the falling ship just before it crashed, somehow inertia ceased to effect him. It instantly reminded me of the old Bugs Bunny, stepping out of a falling elevator, gag :lol

Well one thing to think about is that Pandora has lower gravity than Earth.

That brings up yet another reason why AVATAR is brilliant and has such a broad appeal.
Eywa
is so open to interpretation that Bible believers will no doubt apply their views and tell their fellow churchgoers to go accordingly.

Jimmy is a muthaphucking genius.

Just arrived from seeing Avatar for the 3rd time. I can't believe it still grips me and makes me forget everything else while I'm in Pandora. :D :D :D

Oh btw, something I think I'd never witnessed in a theatre (here in Portugal). At the end there was APPLAUSE. :O:O It's really really unusual to say the least. I guess normally over here men are too manly and women are too womanly... err.. or something... and are afraid to show emotion, but NOT THIS TIME. :lol

And seeing people are just picking composers... Inon Zur anyone?

I saw the movie for the first time yesterday, and it too yielded applause at the end.

While I have been to movies with applause before, I can't recall it ever happening this late after opening.

True, though based on the physics models they used, it doesn't seem to be that much of a difference. Whatever though, it's not like I really expect complete realism when we
re talking about a fight between a 10' blue alien and a mech, while mountains are floating above them :p

For people spooging over the Pandorapedia, you really should pick up the Movie Scrapbook. Tons of really awesome art, and lots of information on Pandora. Totally worth the $8.

From the Amazon pages, it looked like the scrapbook was a hybrid between the Survival Guide and the art book, so I got those two instead. I'm hoping I'm not missing much between those two.

took my mum the other night.

she has never seen a sci-fi movie of any kind EVER. mum had me when she was getting on so she is well over 70.

I quote " Oh my, that was an experience", "what imagination they must have", and "I think i'll have trouble sleeping"

she was blown away. totally blown away. I was stunned.

The Survival Guide is the one to get. The scrapbook is basically just a simplified/younger age version.

The Survival Guide is really thorough, but the articles on the online Pandorapedia seem like they might eventually be more in depth
