I've decided to see the movie an unprecedented (for me) 6th time, BUT I'm going to be waiting a little over a month before seeing it again. The next venue, however, will be at a London IMAX theater. So I can eventually say I've contributed to the gross in three countries. :lol

It needs good legs, but not insane ones. It needs a multiplier of 2.5 off of this weekend to reach Titanic. That should be very doable.
Internationally it probably needs a multiplier of 2 or so to beat it.

Avatar is $240M away from Titanic. Let's say Avatar's box office dies after Alice In Wonderland (when it takes over IMAX). That's 7 weeks away.
Avatar just needs to make an average of $34M WORLDWIDE each week (all 7 days) for the next 7 weeks to beat Titanic. It's pretty much locked at this point.

I heard a bunch of woman in their late 20's and early 30's are petitioning Cameron to re-release Titanic this winter.

Two things. One, I'm so happy I went to see it. Two, I will never watch it again.

It's between 45-60 minutes too long, the second half pales in comparison to the awesome first half, and the inspirational speeches and overall corniness of the ultra bad army mans just starting getting out of hand. Worthington was really good though, as were most of the other main characters. The good though...
The film was the most incredible looking thing I've ever seen in a theater. JC has revolutionized theater-going with this new 3D or whatever it is, and it's not a gimmick at all. The visuals and special effects were insane, and I never want to see a non-3D film in the theater again. As long and as average as the film was, I will still recommend to everyone I know to see it, because it looks so amazing.
The first real 3D scene when Sully comes out of the cryo chamber is something I will always remember. It looked so good, at that moment I knew going to the theater to watch a movie has forever changed.
So proud JC is a canuck.

At least 3D Star Wars would be a lot more welcome than the changes and CG added in the old Special Editions. That said I'm not sure how successful Star Wars 3D would be at the box office. The 1998 re-release did well but there was at least a decade of pent up demand where there was no new Star Wars content in the media. Now we're constantly assaulted with new exploitations of the IP.

My friend did the same thing in My Bloody Valentine 3D. For the first 15 minutes he went on about how the technology was so amazing and this was going to be the next big thing.
Then after 30 minutes he was begging me to leave, saying he would pay for my ticket if we could just walk out of the theatre. I made sure that we at least stayed through the 3D sex scene.

Avatar was made for 3D and it did well, but there are lots of areas where 3D still needs to be improved on, so I have a feeling there is still definitely a place for a great looking 2D film.
This especially applies to already filmed movies. The 3D will be even more gimmicky there.
