IMAX use a polarized system like RealD. Their glasses are big and cover just about all your field of vision.
Ok..
So this will be the best way to experience this movie then?
:D Awesome.

So the "REAL" 3D and the "REAL" IMAX (no liemax).
:D :D :D
Sign me up for the hype!

EDIT:
Are they as good as/better than the RealD glasses?

Speaking of Rottenwatches in general, I did some digging and only found 16 non-documentary, English language films rated over 90% this year.

Those films are a odd lot indeed.

You know everything that you think of when you think of IMAX? LieMAX doesn't have it.

True it doesn't have as large a screen but the picture qaulity increase is literally 10 fold compared to a normal theater. I was really blown away by the picture qaulity.

Also lieMAX is all Digital and uses 2 projectors so theoretically 3D should be sharper and brighter compared to a IMAX counterpart.

Better. And it should be a pretty awesome, all-enveloping way to watch it.

Digital 3D screenings will be crisper and less motion artifacted than large screen IMAX, though.

Also, just because it needs to be stressed: IMAX versions are in 1.78:1 (the ratio it was shot in) and it's in 2.35:1 (the way Cameron framed it) everywhere else.

So I've never seen a 3d movie. I want to see this one in 3d just to see what it's all about. All of my usual movie-finding searches don't say anything about if the theatre is showing it in 3d or not, is there an easy way to find one without just randomly calling all the ones in my area?

Ok so me and a friend (GAF user "AssemblyRequired") want to go see this in the IMAX. How exactly can we be sure that the movie has Real D or just the regular Dolby 3D glasses beforehand (w/o dealing with the ill-informed employees). We're going to the IMAX in Buford, GA (Mall of Georgia).

IMAX uses its own system, neither Real D or Dolby, if you're at IMAX then you're all good.

Just quietly, sessions for tomorrow are sold out here at my IMAX.

Thanks for the info guys!
I'm pretty excited now :D
Dont really know all that much about the film itself other than the 1st trailer for it.
I love it when i barely pay attention to "blockbuster" movies and then they turn out super-awesome. Hopefully that's the case here!

Damn, Battle Angel is a lot further along than I would have guessed.

I wonder why he's been dodging the question lately, he seems quite open he's doing it next.

In the audio interview he just conducted with Marketsaw (you can find it on their site), he said Battle Angel more than likely WILL NOT be his next film and The Dive probably will be. Which sucks, but he doesn't want to spend another four years straight on one project.

I just hope he makes Battle Angel before AVATAR 2 (providing AVATAR does very well) so he can leverage an R rating out of FOX (you give me my R rating, I'll sign onto AVATAR 2).

what? man that explains so much. ive been trying to figure out if my IMAX was RealD or not. that google map thing says it isnt a LImax, so i should be good to go?

I read some Wiki stuff on Battle Angel...

Alita will be a CG character with the photographic likeness of a young, 14 year old girl. The actress portraying Alita, however, will be an adult, who is not yet identified by the studio. Her character will appear nude in many scenes, so performance capture CG imagery will be the only logical way to portray such a young character in this manner without violating child pornography laws.

What the fuck?

What the fuck?

ASS LIKE A TEN YEAR OLD BOY!

In all seriousness though, I don't know where they got that info from and if its true, its supposed to be treated like an inanimate object. I don't think they're talking about showing full-frontal child nudity, but the fact that they can't shoot a naked child live on the sound stage. This isn't the 70s anymore, you can't just show off kryptonian toddler genitalia.

So what? Have you read the Manga? She's a robot and the professor probably repairs her from time to time or something like that. Should be nothing too offensive.

In regards to "2012" and "Avatar," yes, both films have nonsense plots. The difference, and the reason I liked one and not the other, is because "2012" worked not only as spectacle, but as a film that had some genuinely suspenseful and exciting moments as an action film. "Avatar," by comparison, did not. The action was repetitive and never thrilled me or gave me any moments of true awe.
I'll judge tomorrow but I have the feeling his taste doesn't really match mine. ;D

Awful pretty more like...

With his crazy CG shit, I'm sure he could make any decent actress some insanely attractive CG woman.

Just finished listening to it, really interesting, thanks for that.

He was NEVER going to have Alba as Alita. Retard imdb-type fans connecting Dark Angel and Battle Angel and getting their nerdgasms going.

Also, it just hit midnight in Sydney. I SEE AVATAR TODAY!!!!!!!!!!

17 hours.

I am still waiting for Armond 'you're doing it wrong' White's review on this. But I will say the pouring in of positive reviews have me interested in seeing this movie but I am still skeptical.

4 Golden Globe nominations

http://www.goldenglobes.org/news/id/159

Best Motion Picture - Drama
Best Director
Best Original Score
Best Original Song

Best Original Song? Guess there wasn't much this year. =/

Good to see in any case.

Let me just call it now, because the Academy wants press, and they love the press that they get by setting first precedents.

Bigelow will win for Hurt Locker, which will get press not only because its the first female director, but because the HPA knows the tabloids would love a wife trumps oscar-winning ex-husband headline. Mind you, I've seen neither The Hurt Locker nor AVATAR yet, but I can just never get over how poorly directed Strange Days is, in what seems like a decent script.

i probably won't be seeing this until the 26th, but i got primo seats the Imax at Navy Pier, i might catch a midnight showing at the local theater before then, but might not want to have the film spoiled before seeing it on a proper screen

idk

I didn't plan on it happening this way but I promised a few people I'd see it with them and didn't expect them to all want to see it opening week.

My lil sis surprised me the most. She doesn't really like Sci-Fi, is 13 years old, and has terrible taste in films in general. It’s not because of Titanic either because I don’t think she’s even seen that.

Everyone is saying that only IMAX will be showing this in 1.85 and all other screens are 2.35.

Didn't it get revealed a few months ago that all 3d screens for this would be 1.85 as the 3d is better suited to that, while the 2d showings were 2.35?

That's my understanding of it, although if it's a 'better' ratio for 3D or not is arguable, I prefer scope for 2D, I don't see why it'd be any different for 3D. Avatar was produced in 1.85 though, they're croping it for 2D.
