Hey, in six hours I'll be double teamed by these two:

I'll be leaving in a little over half and hour :D . Gotta eat something first though...

Where should I sit for RealD? For 2D movies, I like to sit in the front ~35% of seats. Should I sit in the middle? The back?

They were sort of a nuisance since they were rather top heavy, they often slipped down the bridge of my nose (if you have a big schnoz, you should be fine) to the point where the top strip of plastic over the lens ever so slightly obscured or came into view at times. I did have to reposition them a few times and be wary of how my head was positioned.

Also, the Hoyts ones were greased up over the lens and definitely looking the worse for wear.

Alright, I'll pop some stuff before entering. I only wear glasses for movies and stuff, as my eyesight is getting worse all the time, and I kinda have to let it settle down a bit. I'm nearsighted and I work with computers eight hours a day.

The middle. If you sit too close you'll be affected by ghosting.

My theater's a LieMAX, so I'm not positive which it'll be, but these honestly don't look very comfortable:

Especially the way seem to dig into your head on the sides. RealD glasses look a magnitude more comfy.

And yeah, Truant, those don't seem much better. :lol

And this is likely the type of movie you'll lean forward in more than most. My schnoz is average-sized. Guess I'll just have to wait and see. I hope I can do like most everyone else says and forget I have them on after a while, since I'm so immersed.

I saw it yesterday evening in 3D.

the theater seats were uncomfortable as hell, the 3D glasses mauled my face, and still I left the theater with a smile. It might not be Cameron's best, but it's a damn good movie; I loved it!

There's only one thing that bothered me throughout the movie; what's with the Jurassic Park
sound effects. I definitely heard a T-rex and a velociraptor in there.

I was sort of laid back most of the time, maybe a little too slumped. Probably a posture thing more than anything else. Still, those glasses were pretty shitty and uncomfortable.

Just found out that the IMAX near me is going to be showing this. So pumped. I've never seen a full movie in IMAX before. Too bad I can't see it until the 22nd. Oh well. Should be awesome.

Saw this last night at midnight.

The theatre started the movie, but for some reason queued up the Avatar trailer audio instead of the actual movie audio, so we ended up having to wait for 45 minutes while they fixed it. We got free tickets to come back and see any IMAX or regular movie for free...but god damn was that really going to test my tired wife and easily sleepy friend.

I think the movie met my expectations, and they were decently high.

Loved
You so easily forget that you're watching CG characters in this movie. This is fantastic, as usually you have this constant nagging that what you're seeing isn't real, and it pulls you out of the movie. There is none of this here. After being with the Avatars and Na'vi for 5 minutes you're pretty much sold and don't even think about it.

Interesting
The 3D in this movie didn't really seem any different than the 3D I've seen in any movie (visually). It's subtly there the entire time, but it didn't seem like they went out of their way to do anything I didn't think could be done with 3D. This isn't really a bad thing, but with all the talk about the tech, I assumed the 3D'ness of the film would be far and above anything I'd seen to date.

Didn't love
It actually took about half of the movie for my eyes to finally accept the 3D on the screen. I was constantly squeezing my eyes together to give them a break because they couldn't handle looking at the images for some reason.

I definitely chalk it up to IMAX 3D vs. RealD 3D. I'm definitely going to see this again in RealD and see if my eyes are more accepting and the visuals are better represented. I've always thought that RealD was the better 3D experience, but for a movie of this scale I wanted to see it on the biggest screen and have the best sound...in retrospect perhaps I should have seen it in RealD first.

...

The movie really is great, though. As everyone has more or less stated before, the story isn't necessarily anything to write home about, but the execution is superb...and if my sleepy wife and friend could stay awake until 4 in the morning to see this movie without a hint of getting tired, you know that this movie is doing something right.

Go check it out, and I'd say in RealD over IMAX 3D based on my personal experience.

Did anyone go to an AMC theater? Was it in RealD? It seems there's a deal between the two for 3D films on digital screens.

I'm thinking/hoping mine might actually be in RealD. The guy at the theater I called didn't know, though. Guess I'll find out tonight.

I went to an AMC. In my AMC there are three options. 2D, IMAX 3D, and 3D(RealD).
The price difference between 3D and IMAX 3D is 5 whole dollars.

Yeah I think it's gonna be RealD. There's no real IMAX at the theater I'm going to - just the smaller digital screens. Movietickets.com is labeling it RealD. AMC reached an agreement with RealD a few months back.

I paid $15 - tickets are normally 10 or so. Please be RealD.

I went to the biggest cinema in my area to watch the movie at the pre-premiere, hoping that it would be RealD, but it wasn't.
Now I see that a smaller cinema around here has RealD, looks like this'll be the first time I watch a movie more than once in cinema! :lol

The glasses weren't too comfortable but weren't bad enough for me to care. I enjoyed the movie immensely even though i could get what was gonna happen every time before something happened. Even though it was a readable plot I really enjoyed the visual effects and the adventure.

I'll be using the dolby ones in 3 hours from now. They don't look uncomfortable to me either.

My $15 tickets were IMAX 3D.(LieMAX).

I'm leaving in less than an hour, and will be watching it in less than 2. I don't have a Shuichi picture to describe how excited I currently am.

did anyone have a positive IMAX 3D experience? I would go to see it Real D, but I really want to see it on a huge ass screen.

It's the sound that makes it in my opinion. The sound in AVATAR is just....boom de ya da.

rhino4evr said:
yeah..but was the 3D good?
In my opinion, having saw it on IMAX last night, I'd say if the 3D aspect is more important to you than the audio or screen size, go RealD.

Yeah, that's what I'm not sure about. The theater clearly has RealD support, but I think the screen I'm watching it on is a LieMAX (though I'm not positive), and those never use RealD right? Oh well, guess I'll find out either way.

Or LieMAX, the consensus seems to be that it's the best in terms of pure image quality. I would agree with that, I only saw the preview in RealD though, not the whole film. Maybe next week.

The RealD glasses are a ton more comfortable than the LieMAX glasses.

wut? i thought it was agreed upon that imax>liemax>realD>dolby#D as far as 3D quality goes.

IMAX is definitely not at the top, at least from my own personal experience. RealD owned IMAX in terms of clarity and 3D depth perception.

wut

i've been under the impression it was the other way around.

the local imax isn't showing it but i can go to realD.

so, i guess it works out for me.

surprised.

I don't think so. I think IMAX is just preferred because of other qualities such as sound, screen size etc.

It's because the RealD is using digital. Less ghosting.

What in gods name is wrong with you, mang?! My 3D strategy is the exact same as my 2D strategy. Back row, centre.
I usually sit kind of midway but I'd heard as far back as possible for 3D so I took the priority disabled seating just off center (the middle two were taken) right at the back, it was a great view the whole time. (Quite the gamble though, a disabled person can ask for them and you have to move).

I cannot fathom how this film is sitting on only an 82% average rating. It's also disconcerting that so many of the negative reviews bring up the issue of cost on the RT quotes as if the exponential cost should act as a pivotal point of reference when reviewing the film. It shouldn't. Who cares what it cost, just rate the movie for the movie.
82% is actually kind. If you read the reviews, the text of a lot of the ones that are marked fresh is quite negative. That's usually true, but this time much more than usual.

I always sit a bit to the side. I have a bit of claustrophobia. So middle isn't the best option for me.

Side is alright provided you're still at the back. That was what I was calling him nuts about. Sure, I liked the front when I was 10 years old, but now its headache inducing.
