So where in NYC / Long Island can I see this?

I'm really annoyed by the buzzword type names for the display technology (RealD or some crap like that) and I can't sit down and read about which is the best type of theater to go to.

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Just ordered my tickets online for Saturday IMAX 3D first time can't wait. I am going with a few less people than usual because they want to hate on something they haven't seen yet oh movie snobs. :lol

I would love an answer to this as well. I have no clue what the hell is going on with RealD or IMAX 3D or fake IMAX or whatever the fuck.

I do know I went to go see TDK in a dome IMAX theater and it kinda sucked.

And nevermind, I just checked that link, thank you. I'll be able to go to the theater I usually go to. Sweet.

Hmmm...the movie theater about 10 minutes from where I live has Real3D. I'm tempted, but I saw one of those 3D documentaries at the Natural History Museum in DC in IMAX 3D and got a pretty bad headache afterward so I'm very apprehensive of attending another 3D viewing, especially for a film over 2 hours long.

Whole different ball game. They tried really hard to make the 3D really comfortable and non-distracting on Avatar.

I'm guessing that 3D doco was hastily slapped together with no regard for whether it was comfortable for audiences.

How would you even KNOW that it's a "whole different ball game" when you don't know what he watched and you're just GUESSING that it was hastily slapped together blahblahblah. You know, I'm all for defending Avatar, but it seriously seems to me that some of you guys are trying so hard to defend the movie from every possible issue that anyone could have with it, that you're just MAKING UP SHIT to try and make Avatar sound better now. It's really lame and makes me wonder if some of you have more invested in the movie than just your personal interest.

thank christ i didn't get one from Avatar, cos i had a terrible headache after seeing Beowulf (possibly due to the shittiness of that movie, but who can say :P).
and yeah, i'm not sure how anyone could come to the conclusion that they made the 3d more comfortable for audiences in this one.. how would they even do that?

IMAX 3D documentaries are usually shot with 3D cameras their lenses a fixed distance apart, which can cause headaches.

The Cameron/Pace Fusion System has lenses that converge or separate based on the distance of an object from the camera. It's a much better replication of human-depth perception.

So yeah, 'whole different ball game' is right.

This is going to be a loooong week.

Speak for yourself. 48 hours from now I may well have seen it twice. :D

Just kidding, I won't go to the showing straight after, will probably leave a day gap in between my second viewing unless the movie disappoints me.

only gonna cost me about 13 bucks to see it at a real d theater here. the final week, i can't wait.

I'm paying $25 per ticket, so for me and my girl it's $50 to see it in Dolby 3D.

So does this come out on Wednesday? Cos an Imax cinema here is showing it on wednesday but I thought Friday was when all you guys were gonna watch it?

I'm paying 29(150 kr)... But at least I'll have some really nice best seats, and it'll be in Imperial.
Hah. Bastard :)

The only reason i would travel to copenhagen to watch it would be if they showed it in imax. But its just as cheap to fly to london from here, so i could just go there instead (if i wanted to waste a day and 100$ to watch a movie) :lol

Not defending the movie as he never dissed the movie.

He asked a question, and I gave him as informed an answer as I could. If a museum length doco is giving someone headaches, they are obviously doing something wrong. I'm just using educated guesses to make a statement.

Its back up to 91%.

I'm paying $24.50 to see it in 3D IMAX on the biggest screen in the world.
lucky bitch.

i saw it on 'VMAX' on friday, but i don't even know what that means with respect to IMAX. are they even similar? is it named to confuse people? going again with the boy and my mum (who, strangely, is a crazy james cameron fan) on wednesday night - pretty much the same seats. i'm more excited about seeing their reaction this time :) god, i can't wait. what a fucking nerd.

VMAX is Event Cinemas' attempt at trying to cash in on the IMAX name. It isn't even as good as Fake IMAX, which is itself incomparable to a real IMAX.

So it comes out two days earlier in the UK and Australia than in the US? How come?

SPEED RACER. You fuckers are still making up for getting it like 5 months ahead of us.

In all seriousness, its because with huge event films that get worldwide releases, we usually get it first because movies release here on a Thursday. With really big films like TDK, the end up doing the day earlier because they know it will sell.

:(
...we can't all live in sydney!
it was still absolutely fantastic on poor-man's-IMAX, so you're in for a hell of a ride :D

It just hit me just how happy and thankful I am that I avoided the 16 minute preview. I'm really happy with my past self for doing that. The tickets were right there.

Scullibundo said:
Wha? When are you seeing it?

Friday 6:30 ... if you'll see it in less then 48 hours, I'll have basically another 48 hours before my first viewing. Those two days will be filled with more impressions which will probably possibly spoil something or leave me even more hyped and potentially more disappointed then before.

I really want this to get a bad review so I can read it, lower my expectations, and then go in to the movie with that mindset.

Totally. I'm only reading negative reviews now in order to lower my expectations. Problem is there are not enough, and the ones that are still gush about it in some way or another :lol

really? the 16 minute preview just put me into a frenzy for seeing the full thing. after that though i pretty much went on media blackout.

when we got the invite for last weeks screening we were first in line, looking like complete losers sitting on ottomans outside the theatre 2 hours early. got some weird looks, but got to choose some killer seats. worth the wait ;) man, you're gonna shit yourself on wednesday. :lol

I promise my review will be spoiler-free and level-headed. I'm more than aware of the immediate euphoria surrounding first impressions that come off the back of having just seen the film. Too many engage in the OMFG WTF BEST MOVIE EVER, easily the best movie i've ever seen LOLOLOL without letting it digest. I will give impressions with that in mind obviously. I'm not one to fly off the handle. I've been reading impressions both good and bad. I find with reading only negative reviews, that when I'm watching a film, those negatives tend to stick out to me more than they would have had I not read about them.

Perhaps the best option is to read no reviews until you see it.
