oh and whats the song playing in the battle when the colonel says "break formation engage all hostiles" *shows whole dragon firing from all forward guns*

My new wallpaper.

Took my mom to see it, she liked it a lot.

I´m already thinking about going a third time, but the cinema here adds a 15 minute break in between and I hate them for it.

Quaritch needs to punch a boulder in the sequel or something.

Please give us a sequel in less than a decade.

Please have zombie/robo Quaritch in it.

Solo, I'm not really mad.

Only reasons I bring it up are:

1) I just read the Empire review.

2) Some posters were adamant that such a connection was impossible, even going so far as to say it was typical of American thought. Empire is not American.

3) lulz

I can't speak for the other posters, but since you included me, you have to understand that some of us were not saying that the image of the Home Tree falling can't evoke or INSPIRE memories from the WTC incident, rather that it wasn't INSPIRED BY it.

That's what I was trying, and failing to say, yeah.

...yeeah, 9/11-Hometree comparisons are a bit of a stretch. If the RDA kamikazed the tree, with Navi jumping off to their doom, then that might be something. But they just shot missiles at it and blew it up. Nothing more, nothing less.

As for the dvd/blu release, my video store were advertising it as April 24th or something like that yesterday.
Seems kind of quick. Though I suppose if it's just the theatrical release it'd be easy enough. Though knowing FOX, I wouldn't be surprised if they released that with some minimal features but then released a super edition down the road.

Don't worry Neytiri grew on me too. As soon as I saw her I knew it was going to happen. And I know I wasn't the only one checkin out the cute blue boobs.

I think you are still missing the point I was making.

An idea is not the same as its execution.

The idea existed prior to 9/11.

Its execution was done after 9/11.

The way Cameron chose to execute his idea caused many viewers worldwide to think of 9/11. Like I said before, see also Revenge of the Sith.

FWIW the only reason I included you was because you explicitly agreed ("Thank you.") with maharg's silly comment about American thinking.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I see it as Cameron being meticulous with how the site would look after such destruction and representing it as such. The Empire article you quoted can't support your theory of Cameron's intention, only that is easily invokes images from 911.

lol screw that, I feel like I'm destroying my eyes. :P

First I was like WTF cross eyed shit doesn't work, then I saw there was a choice for 3d viewing style and finally picked Cross-eyed option. :lol :lol

Looks awesome, but yeah brain hurts after awhile.

I'm American and I was never reminded of 9/11 either. I saw a large structure come crashing to the ground (very impressively) being destroyed from the ground up (not top down). Am I supposed to think of 9/11 every time I see a large structure be destroyed now? I never thought it when I saw Baradur crumble in RotK (which was destroyed from the top down), nor did I think it in 2012 when all those tall skyscrapers fell apart either. Or other countless movies and videogames depicting large structures being destroyed.

I've seen large trees cut down on tv for years. They cut near the bottom, and they fall. It's what happens with trees. This is a huge tree and it was cut down similar to how I've seen trees cut down for years. I think of that not 9/11 and I'm an American.

I made no such claim.

I bring it up as a rebuttal to maharg's silly comment.

I think he might be talking about the floating ash in the following scene when he wakes up. Again, my feeling is that Cameron would think how it would look afterward, like he always does.

Listening to the "War" track... :lol Lucky for Hollywood that Holst's The Planets is public domain. :P

These people just unabashedly rip it off over and over again.

I remember when Blader was going to make a ban bet with me that it wouldn't make its budget back (World wide) before conveniently not replying to seal the deal. :lol

i have a question. is it possible to watch 3d on a normal tv? will the blu ray release include the 3d version of avatar?

Not the kind that is on theaters at the moment. You'll need a TV designed for 3D.

Anyone have that link that shows whether its an IMAX or LIEMAX?

Just ordered tickets for me and mom to go tomorrow, cause she said she wanted to see it! :lol

The bluray will have the 3d version but you will need a 3d-ready tv and a 3d compliant bluray player.

p.s. I think this is easily the best CG shot in the entire movie

Looks so real. Unfortunately most of the detail is lost thanks to them glasses...

Incredibly good. But the scene that has impressed me the most on every rewatch is when Neytiri drinks out of the pitcher flower. Looks so incredibly real and natural. The water even splashes a bit on her upper lip and dribbles down her lower lip before she wipes it. Looks unreal.

Heh. I actually don't any resemblance between Neytiri and Saldana. It's strange.

Saldana is bangin' though.

Neytiri looks EXACTLY like Saldana. IMO, of course.

Jake you have to stare for a bit, though.

I don't think she does. Obviously the nose is different and Cameron tweaked Neytiri's look the most. Her eyes are far larger and wider and he also stretched her face out.

I don't think it 'looks' like her, but it moves like her. You can see her facial structure, and the way she moves her face in Neytiri.

It's like a very involving makeup, it hides her actual face completely, but it still completely like her.

I actually recognize all of the Avatars as their actors. Strange how I don't make the connection between Saldana and Neytiri. Maybe it's because you don't see Saldana as a human in the film. I don't know. Even when I see pictures of both of them side by side I still don't see it.

The most noticeable comparison is that the top of Zoe and her character's heads are noticeably wider than the under the cheek bone/chin area.

It is pretty damn sad this movie is actually making money. Fake shit = money apparently. Shit like this just continues to push movies into the shitty CG move hell where CG matters more than writing and actual directing matter. Pathetic.

My moms bought me Braveheart on blu-ray and I got around to watching the first half of the movie this morning. The transfer is absolutely IMPECCABLE, it's like seeing the movie again for the very first time. The reason I'm bringing up that film in the AVATAR thread is because of the absolutely MAGNIFICENT score James Horner delivered for that film. My god, the man was firing on all cylinders back then. It is one of the most emotionally stirring scores I have ever heard. I get chills every time I hear the main theme from that film. It's a reminder of just how unmemorable the AVATAR score is by comparison. The war drum beats in Braveheart absolutely SMOKE anything in AVATAR and the main theme is just heart breaking and epic. What the hell happened to James Horner? Nowadays he serves up shit like TROY and AVATAR. The main theme from AVATAR rips TITANIC off heavily .. the first cue is like note for note the same.
