Busty did a few days back.

Also, in the matter of talking about eachother, could irfan and jett kindly shut the fuck up? :lol

You tell that crazy son of a bitch that, not me.

Solo: I was actually wondering about the idea of a reverse Avatar; maybe they'll have to go to future Earth in the sequel (which would work well if the 'Pandora dying' plot were used). The Indian doctor and Norm are still on the planet, along with a few other Avatars; maybe they'll grow a human Avatar for Neytiri so that she can accompany Jake back to Earth or something.

Does the "Confidential Report on the Biological and Social History of
Pandora" book have any info about the human tech or is it totally only Pandora stuff? I just ordered it, but if there's an equivalent human book too, I'd be interested in that as well.
some guy posted a bit of a summary on a forum and it has both

but reading it made me go wtf

C-21 Dragon Gunship
Carries 'enough nonnuclear firepower to devastate an area the size of Manhattan in six seconds.'

so what the point of duct taping together some explosives at the end if you can preaty much blow up the whole place with that one gunship? I am quite sure Manhattan is bigger than the sacred place of the na'vi

unless the RDA has only acces to some pussyfied version

oh and aperantly the small arms the RDA uses are 3 generations behind the top tech used on Earth

That would be the anti-thesis of what Avatar is all about.

Sounds like some copy writer just thought that sounded cool. Probably never even saw the movie.

Not to mention the fact that the Dragon also needed the aid of all the other ships in bringing down the hometree. Unless my proportions are off, the tree was nowhere near the size of Manhattan.

Though I suppose the key word is "carries". It obviously cannot fire all its ordinance at once.

Im tellin' ya, the way Navi's will get human Avatars is by using dead human bodies as some kind of host. That way not only can Zoe appear in human form, but Quarritch can return, but as the completely opposite character he was in the first movie :lol

As much as I like Zoe, I don't want to see her in human form in this franchise. :D

And unless they can figure out a quick solution to the long time-skip that it takes to get from planet to planet, I doubt Jake and Neytiri will be heading back to Earth. And if they did, well, seeing Neytiri try to move around on Earth would be very interesting.

I'm sure the Disney straight to video sequel to Pocahontas was something like this. I think going to Earth would open a can of worms and bog the film down with politics that Avatar has dodged so far. And from the art we've seen, it looks a lot like Blade Runner, it wouldn't be something we haven't seen before. If we stay on Pandora though, it might become a Na'vi version of Apocalypto.

Well now, that was certainly the fanciest Pocahontas movie I've ever seen.

GRACIOUS Michelle Rodriguez is hot!

Watched it again today, liked it a bit less than my first time. I'd probably put my final score somewhere between 8.5 and 9 instead of my initial 9.5. My second viewing definitely felt like two hours and 40 minutes had passed, don't think I'll be seeing it a third time.

Yeah, all Michelle Rodriguez needed to do in previous films was smile and I might have liked her more apparently. She has a great smile. Maybe when Cameron was shooting her, he was waving a bottle of tequila off-screen.

I'd like to note that when people use the phrase "movie magic", the banshee flying sequence can be cited chapter and verse. It is as transporting a sequence as I've ever seen on film, and I was taken even more so on the second viewing than the first.

I just think Rodriguez has finally mellowed out a bit in recent years, been less bitchy, smiled more, and been likable for the first time. Her appearance on Lost this year was nice, same with her small appearance in Fast & Furious, and especially in Avatar. Its like you said, shes actually nice to look at when she is smiling.

The issue of 3D having higher ticket sales should not be a factor in people's arguments, since before this film's coming 3D was largely considered as something people wouldn't embrace for the most part. It is to the film's credit that so many theatres were upgrading specifically for it. It deserves every bit of cash that is attributed to it.
It also offsets the longer runtime which would cut down the amount of show times.

Well, I finally got to see it today. I wasn't expecting to see it in 3D, becasue I live a the very small town, but we have a Carmike cinema a few miles away the had it in "RealD", I'm not really sure if it is the best, I remember another thread about it and some said it wasn't the best. It being the my first 3D experience though I guess I have nothing to compare it too!
I really had no idea what to expect from the movie, but it's the best movie experience I've had in 10 years, truly a masterpiece of a movie. The 3D was awesome, and this movie definitely has the BEST cgi I've ever seen. I'm not sure if they did mo-cap but Zoe especially did a spectacular job. Her character was gorgeous, in beauty and emotion. The world Cameron made is one of the most realized I've ever seen, the creatures, the wildlife the plants everything. Did Cameron invent the navi language? It was funny about some of the sounds the creatures made, I think it was the houses, they sounded like the V-Raptors in Jurassic Park!:lol This also is the first time Michell Rodriguez didn't get on my nerves, she's really pretty when she doesn't make that scowl face all the time:lol :lol I felt uneasy when I got out of the theater, because I wanted to do nothing else but go see it again! I was pissed at first getting their too, because I hate crowds, I usually go at the earliest showing, I went at 1 today, and the theater was PAKED out, but after the movie I was happy about it, because the movie deserves to make a lot of money! I'm going to see it again Monday!

Also I haven't read any of this thread, I'm goina do that now, but does anyone have a link or something to some UHQ screen-caps!? I'd like some wallpapers!

Rodriguez has like, what, 5 lines in the entire movie? :P I never had a problem with her before, and I didn't really see much of a difference in her with her performance in Avatar, but whatever.

That comment seems kinda racist to me.

Nah longer run time is no excuse, LotR films and Titanic had longer run times. But people saying 3D premium is the only reason forget that until AVATAR, 2D would account for 85 - 90% of films released in both formats because it was seen as something gimmicky.

Saw it again for the 2nd time, the visuals still amazes me. Theater was packed and everyone cheered/clapped at the end.

Any numbers for Saturday yet?

It is pretty damn sad this movie is actually making money. Fake shit = money apparently. Shit like this just continues to push movies into the shitty CG move hell where CG matters more than writing and actual directing matter. Pathetic.

People are calling this a troll but I wanted to take the bait. If you're serious I think you should consider Cameron's POV. He thinks this is the future of film, and there's no doubt in my mind that he is correct. While indy film makers get a hold of HD cameras and make their own little movies, the big dogs will be using CG more and more, until at some point in the future (not very distant, really), we will have characters that are purely CG, and live action actors will fade from memory. In big name movies, anyway. There will always be a place for the live action stuff somewhere.

From the point of view of Avatar, the CG is nothing more than a replacement for Make up on the Actors.

Word. As long as they capture 100% of the actor/actress's performance and can fully portray it in CG form then it's all good imo. Once this becomes easily accessible to filmmakers, the possibilities will literally be endless and left to the imagination of the film makers. You can make the impossible possible and even believable.

True! It's all about the performance. It makes sense to use it in Sci-Fi or Fantasy movies (and in scenes where Johnny Depp jumps over benches).

The most impressive thing about the CG was recognizing Sam Worghinton in his Avatar.

Heh, I remember the thing that impressed me the most about the Avatar Day footage was Sigourney Weaver's avatar. She never appeared in the preview, but it was instantly obvious that it was her.

I was also very impressed today when i went to see sherlock holmes, that Avatar sessions were still selling out, which is VERY uncommon here.

It was actually funny, when i arrived to buy the tickets, sherlock holmes had it's sessions filled at 70%, as soon as the Avatar sessions sold out, the number went from 70% to 100% in 10 minutes.

Avatar helpin the rest.

I can't wait to see the Sturmbeest hunt and party on the Blu-Ray after reading that part in the scriptment.

Wonder if JC kept in the part with
Jake and Neytiri dancing together during the party

THE sheer spectacle of Avatar in three dimensions kept its popularity soaring above the Boxing Day new release films.

Keen to get out of the rain and wind, Sydneysiders flocked to movie theatres yesterday, leaving barely an empty seat in front of the big screens city-wide.

And the people's choice was clear. Despite the opening of eight new films across the country yesterday, it was Avatar ) - James Cameron's 3D feast for the senses about an alien world under siege from greedy humans - that stole the day.
Most major cinema complexes reported that admissions for the fantasy extravaganza, which opened in Australia 10 days ago, were double those of the next most popular movies.
Tears welled in five-year-old Simon Pereira's eyes when his mother, Maria, told him that afternoon session tickets to Avatar had sold out at Hoyts at Broadway Shopping Centre. ''We were going to see it, but it's full,'' Ms Pereira, from Dulwich Hill, said.

How is this movie doing so well? The only reason I knew about it and saw it was because of GAF, but most of my family would not have known about it if not for me. There's not really an advertising blitz from what I've seen (however, I don't watch much TV) so it leaves me kind of confused. Anyone have an answer to this question, or am I simply just wrong about there being not much advertising?

I went again at 3:30 today and it was a full house. When I left the theater there was a line down the hallway of people waiting to get into the next showing. Crazy!

Word of mouth, like the Wii.

Advertising has been all over TV since the World Series. Constantly.

Add to that the incredible buzz since the reviews started coming out.
