China is a small country i hear :p
It depends whether China's weekly gross was included in the weekend; in that case, this number is quite understandable. But I've been following Avatar's BO in China and it has been doing around $5 million daily at nearly full capacity, so it seems unlikely to me that it suddenly did $20-$30 million over the 3-day weekend and smashed predictions. Though it is always possible.

So it is gonna barely miss Dark Knight's record for fastest to $450 million, but it will surely destroy its record for fastest to $500 million. Not bad considering its opening weekend was about half Dark Knight's and its second weekend was just a hair above.

And then after that, all that is left is Titanic. But the Cameron haters will try to find some way to discount the achievements the movie is accomplishing.

LOL transformers 2.

That was the one thing it could claim. It couldn't say it was good, but it could use Worthlington's Law to say it was the best. No longer.

Haha, here comes the Transformers hate train again. How pathetic. Do you get a hard-on every time you get to say something negative about the movie? :lol

Yes. Yes I do. Off to the hot men thread I go.

Tell you what. I'm going to go on an 80's revival fest in the next couple weeks - Transformers, Transformers 2, GI Joe (haven't seen any of them yet). If Bayformers are better than I expect I'll try to shove you off the tracks.

(Bay and his fans have nothing to be sad about - over $800m world-wide is epic. Just not Cameron-epic. :p )

Avatar has just taken on a life of it's own. It's just comically absurd at this point.

It's a love train, it just looks like a hate train when you're standing on the tracks.

:lol

Anyway, just saw 'mojo's WW numbers... I now understand in a more complete way what drove mathematicians for millennia in their pursuits.

There's such beauty in numbers. :D :D :D :D :D

I honestly think Bayformers 1 might be better than you expect. The sequel though... maybe not! :lol

Transformers 1 is fine. Number 2 took everything that needed fixing (editing of the action sequences) and fixed it, but took the cheese aspects and ramped them to 11. The second movie was just a mess of shit. I still greatly enjoy the first one though.

So, if Avatar continues on the money train, by the end of next weekend it should have jumped from #7 domestic all time to #3 domestic all time right? After another week or two from that point, it should take #2 from TDK. Crazy.

Since I love seeing nutzo TDK fans getting worked up, it will amuse me to no end when Avatar a) overtakes its gross intake, and b) gets all the Oscar noms TDK didnt :lol

I can't wait for the Oscar thread. Should be a good time.

I love Dark Knight, but I do think people are overreacting to the "battle" between them.

And the Oscar thread should be interesting as well. I love Avatar and will praise it to the ends of the earth, but honestly I dont feel it should win Best Picture this year. A nom would be cool, but it just doesnt click with me as a "Best Picture" winning type film. (Blasphemous, I know)

Battle between TDK and Avatar? Why? What's the point? Why can't we love both?

Because this is the internet. And a gaming board to boot. It is impossible to love two things and be happy that they are both successful. One MUST be dominant over the other.

Because he's not the hero GAF deserves, and not the one it needs right now. So they'll hunt him because he can take it. Because he's not their hero.

The battle should be confined to the box office contest. TDK is #2 and the only movie besides Titanic to cross $500m. So comparisons are worth making. Beyond that it's just internet fanboys barking at each other.

We can. A lot of the TDK fans treat it like a sacred cow though.

It is because it got critical and fanboy love. And it made tons of money. It is sacred. Never mind the fact that Iron Man accomplished the same thing of pleasing critics and fanboys, just not on the same level.

Nail on head. I dont hate TDK (I love it), but I do hate a large portion of its fanbase :lol So whenever I can bust their chops, I do.

I defended Transformers when it came out as fun nostalgia fueled trip.

Transformers 2 is indefensibly bad. Perhaps the worst blockbuster in recent memory. It threw so many Tranformers on the screen I couldn't keep up with it. The constructocons had testicles. They had the Jesus wearing a thong. Their was an attempted rape scene between a decepticon and human.

TERRIBLE.

I think Gary Oldman should be in the next Cameron film.
I dont know if the world could handle that much awesomeness. Just add him to my list of wanting Christian Bale and Russell Crowe to work on a Cameron movie together. Just add Gary Oldman in, and perhaps Ed Harris (if he is on speaking terms with Cameron) and you have a very volatile mix of actors there.

And of course, Bill Paxton must return.

I'm sorry guys, I locked the crow eating thread because it's..... really badly done. It had a terribly uninformative OP, just a bunch of random quotes, and didn't really connect to anything at all. No RT rating, no boxoffice numbers, nothing. Really disappointing job, I can't believe it was supposed to have been "in the works" for some time. It just ended up looking childish and dumb.

:(
