Looks like they updated for two days of international earnings at the same time:

Code:
                  Domestic International Total
11-Jan	Monday 5,111,193 21,121,031 26,232,224
12-Jan	Tuesday 5,066,734 5,066,734
13-Jan	Wednesday 4,743,762 42,214,009 46,957,771
No overseas update yesterday. At any rate, that adds up to over $78m WW on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Avatar will be at nearly $1.45b WW before the weekend even freaking starts. It's already over $300m ahead of the previous #2 movie. :lol

So do you think it can hit $1.6 Billion worldwide by the end of the weekend?

I think that's likely. It brought in over $200m last weekend WW, and Avatar can drop more than 25% and still clear $1.6b by Sunday.

It will be close, either way. And Titanic's WW record will sink the following weekend, regardless.

I thought the liberal message in Avatar was so cheesy and over the top that it wouldn't effect people in a serious way. It covers such common tropes that exist in other movies that it's hard to even quantify it as a "message" and more like a Hollywood cliche.

I felt the same. Going in, I knew the politics surrounding it, and the Dancing with Surfs jokes. I tried to keep an open mind.

The CG and action is great. The story is crap. I am in awe that there are people who are moved in any way by this film. Every moment the film uses to tug at heart strings, or deliver its message, I could immediately recall a similar scene in a better movie.

Except for the putting in the CiC. I've seen evil execs putting before, but never in a military command center. Kudos Cameron.

New MAKING OF Featurette

Starts out like the first 'James Cameron's Vision' featurette, but there is quite a bit of stuff not yet glimpsed at. Very cool.

I love you and want to have your baby.

In the EW artcle, Cameron says there are scenes he kept in because they would lead to the foundation for the sequel. I wonder what he's talking about.

Sounds like a simlar tactic he uses throughout Avatar. I'm guessing they'll seem obvious in retrospect.

If I had to guess, among them are the dreaming at the beginning, and everything to do with the seeds "choosing" Jake, for some reason.

it's interesting seeing such negative reactions - normally i'd be on that side of the fence as cliche/cornball (especially romantic stuff) turns me off big time. something about this movie just allowed me to be swept up in it - my attention span is normally horrible too, so for me to be drawn in is very rare :lol

on repeat viewings some of the more heavy-handed stuff rubbed me the wrong way - OH GOD THE TREE SCENE, but with the jake/neytiri plot i'm completely enthralled every time (the theme that pops up in the score in these scenes doesn't hurt either). "don't choose the other one even though she's a good hunter!" it's just good, dumb, escapist fun i guess - but i can see how if you weren't drawn in from the start, it wouldn't be very enjoyable at all.

I can understand why someone is not into it as much as I am. Everyone has their own tastes and different things move different people. Plus any movie this size or anything in entertainment that is this big will have a vocal crowd that hates on it. Just the way it is. In fact I'm pretty sure we called it way earlier in the thread when the movie started showing how big it was going to be that it was just a matter of time till the negativity started to show up.

I however can't wait to go see it again in IMAX for my first time soon :D

P.S. thanks for the featurette links! amazing stuff going on in there.

I love how during Motion Capture they are carrying actual prop replicas of their weapons in the movie, like Wes Studi's Bow, and not just generic sticks or whatever

Edit: BTW, there will be a new Cameron interview in this weeks EW

Love the cover! I'm tempted to pick it up just for that! :lol

That cover is so freaking awesome. The theatrical poster is garbage compared to this. They should definitely have used some variant of this cover as the main movie poster.

The IMAX 3D Experience poster is pretty awesome if you ask me.

So yeah, there is clearly a "dark" US flag behind Quaritch when he introduced.

It is an illusion created by the giant venetian blinds behind him and some rectangular thing hanging from the ceiling toward the left of the frame.

Too similar to Patton to be dismissed as coincidence.

I remember saying after first seeing it how the opening dream was probably more than just a simple "dream" and probably something with more meaning.

Oh well, will be interesting to see what was actually meant to be a subtle reference for a sequel.

Subtle references that were left in for the sequel?

Hmm, perhaps the line about Norm being back on board. It isn't really necessary in the film. Maybe Norm goes crazy in some way or another.

Film student nonsense - Anyone else reminded at times of Total Recall?

TR was in part a commentary on the mental tricks we must indulge in to enjoy action movies. We go pay money to have false memories implanted in us.

In Avatar, we are as crippled as Jake as we sit in the theater, forced to watch the movie as our only hope for excitement. Every time he returns to his human form in the pod, we feel uneasy as we are removed from the world of the fantastic and returned to the mundane.

Interesting that TR is part of Verhoeven's psychosis trilogy and in Avatar there is talk of curing Jake's "insanity. TR ends with a fade to white as the dream of the hero and the audience comes to an end. In Avatar, Jake's eyes open and we are returned to our boring, dirty real world.

This is just off the top of my head, so I might not be presenting it with the best flow, but what do you think?

Some of the humans "were chosen" to stay. I've been wondering why Jake didn't say, "chose to stay".

Probably because Jake and the Na'vi wanted to make sure the ones chosen to remain weren't sympathetic to the RDA and/or their cause.

I would presume it wasn't as cut and dry as:

RDA mercs = All Bad

Scientists = All good

I'm sure there was some cross play.

Possibly. But if he'd said, "chose to stay" we'd assume the same thing: only people the Na'vi wanted there would/could stay. "Were chosen" implies they wanted them there.

May very well be nothing, it's just struck me as odd wording each time.

Oooh, I'll have to look for that. Seems neat.

Bwahaha, Colbert is doing a whole segment on Avatar.
He just read the sex scene from the script.

In the script posted in this thread:

Jake (V.O.):

"Few chose to stay. Fewer were chosen."

Scullibundo said:
Yeah but I'm pretty sure in the film he says 'Only a few were chosen to stay.'

Yeah, that´s why it´s strange that it was cut, right?

As a VO it couldn´t even be a victim of the "frame fucking" Cameron talked about, so either it has some significance for the other Avatar movies or Cameron just didn´t give a crap.

I´m also disappointed that they still have several Avatars herding the humans into the shuttle, but we never see them switich sides. Or doing anything else.

I want that 4 hour cut :(

I think it was deliberate & didn't think too much of it. Cameron wanted it known that the Na'vi controlled who was on their planet, regardless of what the humans wanted.

If there were a hundred people that chose to stay, then the Na'vi may have picked only 20 of those as chosen to stay. It was a simple sentence indicating who was qualified to stay.

GhaleonEB said:
This. That theme is just so beautiful.

Extended cut sounds fuck-awesome. Can't wait.
Well, lets hope its that, and not just the scenes put seperately in other menu.

Any word on whether the extra footage will be re-integrated into the film, LOTR style? Cause if it's just "deleted scenes" who giiiives a shit.
