Cameron confirms what scenes will be in footage currently being finished by Weta

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/100420/entertainment/film_avatar_cameron

This is the Sternbeast (from the video game):

http://i41.tinypic.com/2ugf6hg.jpg

If they put the Hunt back in, they better put the post hunt Festival as well. I don't think you can put one without the other since they go hand in hand...but the fact that he didn't precise it...

There were a few minor scenes that showed the Sternbeast herds in the wild, so I assume those are getting put back in as well, for the sake of consistency.
They're not doing the "Last trial scene"? Fail....

Just got It. Holy shit @ the PQ, best PQ on Blu-ray indeed! Cameron, amazing. Much better than in the bios.

Holy shit I want a 3Dtv with Avatar 3D :(

Cameron setting the PQ standard also for BD, amazing, fuck extra's when it can look this GOOD. Other BD makers owned.

Tier 0, both audio and PQ.

Watching on Pana Plasma 42 Inch.

BTW the movie is 16:9 so it fills up the whole screen! Once more, amazing.

Awesome!

I was gonna wait for the ultimate version this fall, but I've double dipped on worse movies. If the PQ is as nuts as people are claiming it to be then it'll be great.

Its bizarre that its out right now and yet neither bluray.com or dvdbeaver.com have reviewed it....
Just finished watching, PQ is mind blowing. First time that I went fuck the Bios, looks beter in my home.

Reviews will be perfect 10's at least for PQ and audio. No doubt. New benchmark has been set.

Just picked it up along with Master and Commander for $34 total (w/ NYS tax) at Target.

This Blu-ray quality is INSANE. It's like watching a new movie. It may be better than 3D.

Yeah I mean I was like wtf. before I was saying I wouldn't get the BD because it needs 3D. And I have no 3D tv.

Just WOW was I wrong.

But just imagine that this 2D version looks good... makes you wonder how the 3D version looks ;)

Time to set money apart for a 3Dtv ;)

Just like I said some post earlier : 20/20 Critique Film

Cameron 4:22
Lo, and he whom was destined king of box office kings did say, "Let thy story bitching be quenched by the sweet ambrosia of Blu-ray PQ. But knowest thou hath not seen my true glory, for the third dimension shall rise again."

Ok, PQ impressions on the Blu Ray have me convinced to buy the gimped early adopter rape edition. Is the best price/deal $19.99? That's what it is at Amazon, although they have a special where you get $3 off total purchase if you pair it with another Blu-Ray or DVD.

The amazon page for this also says:

Amazon.com said:
Rebate Offer:
Receive $25 from Panasonic with this mail-in rebate. Offer valid through June 01.

But I have no idea what you have to do to qualify for the rebate. Surely they're not offering a $25 rebate on a $19.99 movie. Weird.

Probably a mail in on a Blu ray player.

As others have said I think watching the INSANE quality of the blu-ray might just be a bit better of an experience than the 3D. There is still a shit load of depth to every scene even without the 3D, but nothing will beat seeing it in the theater itself because I'm a big theater going guy :D However...they are both good in their own right. It really is like watching an entirely different experience and everyone who is saying they don't want to double dip...it is worth it just for the insane picture quality this movie has. This movie is going to sell a shit load of HDTV's and Blu-Ray players this week. Best Buy agreed I think because they had a ton of HDTV's in their boxes lined up against the wall last night :lol

They also look like the exact same frames that had previously been released as press stills.

Hell if I know :lol people keep asking for images of the blu-ray and those are all I could find anywhere. I'd try to take some but my camera is shit. However those images def. represent the quality of the blu-ray that's for sure.

That was what I was thinking. I am about to pop the Blu in to witness it myself, and have the DVD running through Handbrake now for an iPad copy on the go.

Yeah I call bullshit on those "Blu-ray" captures, they are the exact same images that showed up months ago:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=18162392&postcount=5798

Can't find the Quaritch image that was posted months ago but it's definitely the same shot.

Not showing the BD won't look great, I'm sure it will (my copy arrives today) but the site posting those images claiming they are BD screencaps is full of shit.

Ok..changed the post to just say they are images since they aren't screencaps. Sorry for the confusion...thought I found some screen caps =/

seems like german media markt offers the blu ray for 12,90€. i hope it's true. i need the movie :(

Damn, I paid 14,90 on Amazon. Still a steal compared to a movie ticket :D Wanted to buy the sleeved FSK logo-less edition, but it still isn´t up for order.

If it´s not here tomorrow on release day I´ll cut the fucking postman

I´ve seen it in 2d in the cinema and while 3d is nice (at least RealD is), the lack of it really shouldn´t sour the experience.

Just checked out the Thanator chase.

:o

The crazy thing about the Thanator is in the 3D version it looked almost pitch black, but on the blu-ray its might lighter and shines when the light hits it. Really amazing looking.

That's an issue with the theater you went to. I watched Avatar in three different cinemas, and in the last one the image quality was perfect with zero brightness issues. :P

The image quality on the Blu will destroy the quality of even the best cinema you saw Avatar at, I guaran-fuckin-tee it.

jett said:
I doubt it.

Also, 2D ftl.

Wait til you see it :lol

I didn't think it would be possible, but after watching this Blu-ray I'm completely not sold with 3D and we should be pushing for higher quality in cinemas. If I experienced this in the theater I would have dug the movie more.

Goddamn the wait til November is hard with all these glowing reviews :lol :lol Still though, I dont double dip, and I want the docs, so November it is :(

ALL OVER MY FACE

Does anyone know what this Target dealio thing is? Or maybe it's more than just Target.

Something about having both DVD and BR on the same purchase?

Quick edit: Ahh, looks like Wal-Mart is getting it too. Is it for every major store?

Every copy includes both a Blu-Ray and a DVD, it's not a store exclusive

Target has it for 19.99 and you get 3 bucks off if you buy other 14.99 blus. The only good ones are Master and Commander and Kingdom of Heaven.

Ah shit, guess I'm buying it. Is it that digital copy DVD shit, or just a plain ole DVD?

Plain old DVD that has a quick introduction at the beginning of Cameron just frowning and shaking his head.

Amazon's deal is similar, but you can get Master & Commander for $13.99. I ended up getting the Blu Ray anniversary Fight Club. 2 Blu Rays that I really wanted for about $31. No shipping, no tax.

It's nice seeing Blu Ray prices in general quite a bit lower than they were a couple of years ago, but I really miss the glory days of the B1G1 sales during the height of the format wars.

Nah, I got a BR player, but I like having the ability to bring it around with me, and I don't have a BR player on my laptop.

eh?

No cinema I've been to looks as good as watching bluray movies on bluray.

This has been my experience so far as well, and I tend to think the theatres have pretty decent screens. Maybe it's because sitting closer to the screen makes everything look a lot better. I love going to the theatre, but Blu-Rays have made home viewing generally seem like an upgrade.

Except the whole 3D thing.

God damn you guys. I won't be able to get the Blu-Ray until this Saturday when I get back into town. Though I'll be watching it on my 57in Mitsubishi DLP. In full 1080p glory, I can't fucking wait. I feel like my entire home theater system has been waiting for this single moment in time when it finally gets to play AVATAR.

This will be incredible! Most likely the most visually vivid Blu-ray film and will stay that way for quite some time.
