Fuck screencaps I'm just gonna YouTube it.

Incidentally, why isn't the Scott vs Todd bass battle scene on YouTube? That was totes going to be my "difference discipline to the MAX" choice.

(NB: Not all of these are better than Avatar. Some of them are; not all. It's more that these are at least in the same ballpark and Sculli is a hyperbolic whore for Cameron's dick. I mean, since making his statement he's already admitted that Kill Bill might just be better anyway. Who does that? Sculli does, that's who. I love him so much. He won't return my calls and I think he secretly doesn't like me but that won't stop the beating of my heart.)
.

Except that I was quoting you talking about scenes like Reloaded's Chateau sequence and Hero's fight scenes, ie: fight choreography - which we were discussing as something removed and incomparable to something like Avatar.

Yeah I disagreed that you can remove it and not compare it. You said "action", not "military action" or whatever. Martial combat falls under the purview of "action".

I'm just making it clear that I was not suggesting Kill Bill featured better action than Avatar, but was saying they surpassed the other martial arts films we were talking about.

Sculli stop being difficult and get arguing good and proper.

BONUS ROUND

Afro vs Afro-droid is a fantastic example of animated action. It's mostly just "good", but then towards the end when it blasts off into the sky and the animation gets all super stylish and those mad RZA beats start dropping it becomes the sublime.

Speaking of the bad internet buzz leading up to Avatar. I wonder if anybody now doubts it was a game-changer/revolutionary. People were laughing their asses off at the concept that the movie would change anything.

Now years on and it's more of a struggle to find a 2D screening of a blockbuster film.

You never fail to completely misuse pictures.
Picture is apt and correct. Your reading comprehension though has been poor.

Are you suggesting that blockbusters being released in 3D these days aren't the norm?
That is a different tune than;

I can go to any of the cinemas and can easily find a 2D screening of ANY blockbuster film.

Yeah. English, how does it work? It's harder to come across a 2D screening than a 3D screening. As in 3D screenings of blockbusters are more prevalent, you dolt.

Different territories and irfan stupidity aside, the argument was that Avatar was a game-changer proven by the fact that almost no blockbusters have a 2D only release these days.

I find the fact that it lead to some of the biggest and most respected names in the industry to follow in Cameron's footsteps and not only film in the format he championed, but also end up with some of those directors strongest films in ages as a result to be a far stronger legacy for the film.

Some directors inspire nothing more than Micheal Bay filming 30 seconds of a film in IMAX. Some directors inspire Ridley Scott to return to Sci-Fi after a 30 year absence.

Sculli backfires and traditional weasling-out aside, I agree with that completely.

Just not that it's difficult to find a 2d showings of Blockbusters these days.

It is in most parts of the world, bro-heim. They are definitely more prevalent worldwide.

Here is a typical cinema here in Australia:

It was the same case when I was living in the US not too long ago and comments from many friends and even bloggers around the rest of the world complaining of being forced into seeing a movie in 3D because it is not playing in 2D is more than common.

So there was no weaseling going on here, just an attempt to get the discussion back on track, rather than focusing on your childish need for attention.

I'm watching Hero right now again, I'll admit the fight with Donnie Yen was more badass than I remembered. But good lawd dat asian melodrama, I can barely stand it.

False again, NA has a higher percentage of digital (3d capable) screens than WW.

Oh so you are basing it all anecdotal evidence? Gotcha. (I can see how that could be the case, some theatres might devote all their shows for a particular movie in 3D due to limited screens/times but it hardly is the basis for arriving at a conclusion with a sample size of your friends)

3D gross is down YOY, so is the overall attendance. 2D shows will still be available in abundance.

Uh huh, I wasnt the one with outlandish claims of 2D showings being difficult to find. :) You can get back to the wank fest.

If you want to talk about amazing action scenes, I'd like you to meet Yutaka Nakamura:

There's a bunch of other stuff if you like what you saw here, just youtube Yutaka Nakamura.

Seeing how we still practically don't have "real" 3D movies showing, I'd say Avatars contribution wasn't all that revolutionary.

And even if it was, fuck that revolution of bringing cinema visuals down.

Lang brought the 80s action badass back with amazing conviction. Scenery chewing at its best.
okay, if "scenery chewing" is sculli speak for "amateur dramatics melodrama", then sure, I can see your point. A lot of 80s action actors were that bad back in the day anyway though so maybe he actually did a good job in emulating it.

Lang was completely convincing, intimidating and had very subtle cues that gave insights into his character's mind. He also plays his character earnestly. But when it's time to kick some blue ass, he brings the quotability factor. The way he delivers his lines is what fucking makes them.

Just watch the boss in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyRR8chgqLE

Real talk: you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about and I do not look forward to where this thread is going.

I thought the constructed world was, like, the ONE selling point?

Were there practical effects of which I am unaware? I thought the effects were all CG, if that's wrong, I apologize. I'm not saying CG is bad or anything, but when the vast majority of on-screen interaction is done behind computer effects, there's not really much separating it from an animated movie.

You are more wrong than you know. You ought to rent the extended edition and watch the 6 or so hours worth of making of features.

In the Netherlands it's impossible. I just checked the Pathe website (biggest cinema chain in the country) and they don't have *any* 2D screening of The Avengers at all. This goes for any movie in 3D, there are simply no 2D screenings. At all.

That's something to keep in mind of when you read that international audiences are crazy about 3D. No, we're not. We simply don't get to choose between 2D or 3D anymore, because the choice has already been made for us (and it must be a just a silly coincidence that 3D screenings are more expensive).

Don't waste your time, irfan doesn't realize that outside of his corner of the US, it is a much different market.

Anecdotal evidence from people who work in major cinema chains the UK, but 3D isn't doing so well here. People actively seek out the 2D showings (of which we have plenty) and their investment isn't paying off in the big way they hoped.

Wow, you're defending the caricature of a villain? Wait, so are you enjoying the movie as camp? I'm not being obtuse, just trying to understand what it is people like about this movie. A lot of it, like the clip you linked to below, reminds me of that war-themed Futurama episode, except it isn't intended as parody....
