RTTP - Resistance: Fall of Man

Resident Crybaby
I recall enjoying this game when it launched on PS3 nearly 20 years ago, but god damn, this game is absolutely fucking awful.

PS 2.5 level graphics, awful pacing, terrible level design, boring/drab/colorless art direction, random & useless weapon/ammo/health pack availability, poor enemy AI, nonsensical vehicle levels, god awful checkpoint system, generic protagonist.

The only praise I can give this game is the Chimera themselves are pretty cool and some of the weapon ideas are neat (but terribly executed). I'll give it a bit of benefit of the doubt because of it's age as well (but frankly games like Half-Life 2, Doom 3, Halo 3, etc.. that came out around the same time or earlier have held up 1000x better than this).

3.5/10

I had actually been looking forward to returning to this game for years, but this is one of the most disappointing re-plays I've had in recent memory. I was planning to re-play through the whole trilogy, but I'm so put off by this game that I don't know if I'll follow through at this point. I do recall liking Resistance 2 a lot more though.

To be fair, at the time it came out, Resistance was an interesting concept/setting, but yeah. Gameplay was pretty rough. Aged especially poorly just a year later when CoD4 came out.

Also, I don't know wtf happened in the mid 2000s, but it's like game designers lost their colour wheel or something. The brown era.

Hard to believe it’s already been almost 20 years. Felt like it wasn’t that long ago that my friend lend me this game back in high school. I liked it a lot and even bought part 2 which had cooler bosses but worse level design. Part 3 was the worst one but I was just waiting for a part 4 where they finally expand upon those evolved Hybrids which were bought up in part 2 but seem to be ignored in part 3.

I only remember it being good and hard.

Never got around to the other two because it has poor controls, the PS3 controller sucks to aim with in the Resistance games.

I personally loved the game.

Great level design, fantastic weapons and varied enemy designs.

Also, how many other games are there that let me shoot aliens in Cheddar Gorge or Grimsby?

8/10. Game deserves a remake or at least a remaster.

Super fun game. Resistance 2 was even better. I really loved that.
I loved the exploding secondary fire on the pistol. I went back to play it and it was so different. The colors were so bland and the environments felt so drawn out. At the time none of this was noticeable. I remember playing FoM and watching Casino Royal because Best Buy gave it to me or something with the PS3. Didn’t they show off Chicago and some other states in R2? The ending was super weird with what happened in R3.

I remember blasting through shields in R:FoM and having a fantastic time with Resistance 3. I felt like the 3rd game was the best.

I always thought the series was 5/10 so couldnt get my head around people asking for a remake or sequel. Its right up there with HAZE except it was marketed better. Also food for thought, Gears of War came out the same month and year. Its not even a competition. One game looked like it was PS 2.5 and the other pushed boundaries. PS3 at the time simply didnt have any games so anything they put out they wanted to make it larger than it was.

I find that 90% of the old 3D games are no longer enjoyable in the modern era.

only a few classics were able to pull it off but most of them aged like milk.

I also noticed that colorful games / side scroller 2D games, /cell shaded graphics aged much better than games that tries to push the technology of that era.

Loved the game, the weapons were amazing, loved the atmosphere and gritty narrative, it was unfortunately rough visually and this caused it to not get proper recognition when the 360 launched with a visual monster like gears alongside. Resistance 2 was disappointing campaign wise, the artstyle was so generic that the improved tech didn't matter, it lost its personality and tried to follow the blockbuster route and failed...killing off the protagonist for shockvalue was one of the most stupid decisions I have ever seen a team make basically torpedod the series campaign wise. The Coop was very nice though.

Resistance 3 was a good campaign for what they could do to salvage the damage done in 2 but the new protagonist lacked any charisma and impact and the whole campaign led to absolutely zero actual development. The artstyle was great but the thing ran at like 540p and 20fps and the multiplayer was an afterthought.

Plays with kids toys, in the adult gaming world
The Call of Duty 3/Resistance days are basically a bygone era at this point

I was a BIG FPS guy in the late 90s early 2000s.....Resistance holds up just fine.....7.5/8 game

A year before the COD4/CRYSIS/UT3 revolution I wouldn't compare Resistance to those games or any classics released before Resistance its not a timeless game its a timepiece of 2006

Resistance 2 and 3 are rubbish tho

I always thought games were desaturated on purpose because it helped the games run better!
