Rumor: Grand Theft Auto 3 Remaster May Be Coming Soon

A new rumor making the rounds claims that Rockstar Games may be remastering Grand Theft Auto 3, or is porting it to new platforms.

While the first couple Grand Theft Auto games had their fans, the game that really put the franchise and Rockstar Games on the map was Grand Theft Auto 3. The groundbreaking game was an open world revelation, setting the bar high for the countless copycats that followed. Grand Theft Auto 3 is quite easily one of the most important video games ever produced, and now it seems that it may be making some kind of a comeback, if a new rating from Australian ratings board is any indication.

The Australian Government's Department of Communications and the Arts has given a new classification to a product simply called Grand Theft Auto 3, which has been given the R18+ rating. No other details about the project are available, except that the classification was issued today.

Yes. I guess there is some precident for a full remaster from Rockstar. The jump in quality from GTAV modern console release was great. I'm just not sure GTA3 is the one people most want.

The XBOX version was already a remastered version of the original one. There was a large number of improvements like reflections, on-screen rain drops, 3D engines, 3D wheels, better models..

Glad I'm not the only one who share the same thought. Stupid ass beach takes up like 1/3 of the map, just terrible. So much prefer GTAIII and SA over VC to be honest.

GTA4 is not that old and you can play the game on PC anytime you want, GTA4 graphics are still holding up pretty good these days esp on PC

the older gta game is the one who desperately need a remake( and i said remake not remaster)

I was talking about a GTA4 port/remaster, not about a full remake.

Personally I don't believe the scenario that the studio will want to make a GTA 3 remake or an advanced remaster, it would require even more work than SP expansions for GTA5 which we didn't get because of focus on Online.

Of course it will require more work to remake 3 than 4 because its a much older and dated game

Game like gta 3 /vice city / san andreas should be ahead of 4 when it comes of priority because it desperately need it

I want a good GTA collection on current consoles with the Stories games too. The games on ps4 are the ps2 versions when better original Xbox versions exist. Then there’s poor mobile ports floating around too.

It doesn’t need to be remade, on account of it would piss loads of people off. You won’t win with a remake. The gameplay is too old, too outdated, so people will moan.

Essentially the absolute best you can hope for is some tidying up, some cleaning up, like how FF8 had recently with its models. Just keep it clean, simple, and offer some better QOL options like better control mapping and stuff.

More than that, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.

But why? If you really wanna create a good remaster you have to change so much to modernize it to be on par with gtav etc. Mission design, world etc. Might as well spend time and money on gta 6 or other games instead.
