Rumor: New Wii U controller (analog sticks)?

Much like it was mentioned in the Destructoid Wii Remote comparisons, "red beans and rice didn't miss her."

Oh, Sir Mix-A-Lot...

Yeah. I don't get it. I'm not saying it's a perfect way of doing things, but nothing is. There's always a trade-off somewhere.

And yeah, that bitching you mentioned? Still happening.

The easiest way around this: Tie your Nintendo Network Friend Code to your Facebook and Twitter accounts. And suddenly, you'd rarely even need to know a Friend Code at all.

Ugh. No. Many people dont want to link their FB account with other accounts. All Nintendo had to do was allow the same thing Google, Microsoft, Sony, Valve, EA, Blizzard, and countless others have done. But no, they had to require a stupid numerical code. Stop defending it.

Wow I didn't know children were dying due to Xbox Live and PSN having names instead of Friend Codes. We must stop this from happening.

Well it's more likely, isn't it?

I could go message sexygirl13 on XBL and maybe get a bite. But I won't cos that's not the kind of person I am. 2453-4542-8653 on 3DS can not be approached in such a way.

I love how you appear any time something Avengers related is brought up =P

I bet we wouldn't have minded friend codes so much if Nintendo's online infrastructure wasn't complete dogshit.

They'll be a thing of the past with NiN, right?

Hm. I never thought about it this way. I guess Nintendo where just looking out for the children :)

Wait, is Nintendo keeping friend codes for Wii U? Or are people bitching about the Wii? That would be a terrible mistake.

Nobody knows for sure yet. Hopefully we'll find out at E3 but I honestly doubt we will find out then though. Until then we have to assume they will keep FCs.

They will probably keep them early on, just make them easier to use, like tie them all to your account and instantly add them when your friends have similar games

Aw man :( I was under the impression that Friend Codes were confirmed as a thing of the past. I guess if you have one all-encompassing friend code it wouldn't be too bad. Wii had a separate one for each game you played right? The only game I ever used a code for was Brawl. Pretty painless but that could get annoying for every single game.

The 3DS has a universal FC for all games. So at worst it would be like that. Though it's likely that FCs are gone.

3DS has one code for all the games.

I would expect it to be even better than that so not too worried.

Fuck you as always, Ace.

Account system pretty much guarantees there will be ASCII-character-set ID's.

I could see an account system that assigns you a unique numeric code which you overlay with a username. I'd prefer something like that anyways.

It would also be interesting if there was a friend search that worked like Facebook.

Yes, Wii had separate FCs but the 3DS has a universal one for all games. Like I said, it's a step in the right direction but it still sucks when you want to add people you meet online. I just wish they would at least go one step further and just require one FC, example, you give me your friend code and I add you, then you get a friend request from me, just because I added you on my end.

These last 2 pages need to saved on the GAF archives as the very definition of apologist Nintendo fanboys.

Friends codes are saving children's lives. Gamers are spoiled for demanding something more.

Holy shit.

This is as bad as IGN comments, in some alternative universe where they're in favor of Nintendo.

Gotcha. yeah there's no excuse for Nintendo to have an unintuitive online interface, there are so many models out there to follow even if they want to mix it up with their heightened privacy precautions.

I like you. Its embarassing.

No it isn't.

You don't create an account on the WII or 3DS.
Yes you do. It's created when you register the device to Nintendo's servers. You're just giving it a display name, but the unique ID is still limited to that server-generated numeric ID, not a unique alphanumeric ID that you can choose for yourself.

The placement of the Wii U's sticks is perfect, I can't believe no one has ever tried this before. I think most people agree that Xbox/Wavebird/Nunchuck left stick is more comfortable than Dualshock/CCPro because your thumb lines up better. Well why not try that with the right stick as well? The dude-bro crowd should be the last people complaining seeing as most TPS/FPS are primarily controlled with both sticks anyways.

When will it end though???

It won't.

There's a reason we are posters and not game/hardware developers.

Same lines of people saying what is wrong with this or that game as if they know better.

They should always have that right but sometimes I think we forget how lucky we are to have such cool forms of entertainment and take for granted those with the wherewithall to provide it for us.

Nothing more or less than that.

I want a system where my screen name doesn't have to be my account name and doesn't need to be unique. I don't give a shit if the account name is some random generated string, but I'd prefer it to be alphanumeric (and therefore shorter), and I want regular invites.

Interesting.

Are you kidding???

I bet it pained Nintendo to make the analog stick positions on the Classic Controller similar to Sony's:P

I'm not sure what this had to do with my comment. But I thought it was a poor decision for 3D games, but fantastic for 2D. The Nintendo Dpad outclasses the weird disconnected thing on DualShocks.

My point was Nintendo goes to the beat of its own drummer more often than not and them following someone else isn't really what they desire for "better" or for "worse".

I'm not defending it, I'm deflating the outrageous indignation against it.

NO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM IS PERFECT. PSN isn't. XBL isn't. Hell, even the systems we have had to communicate for the past several hundred years aren't perfect.

But you don't see people looking at the telephone system and going "10-digit numbers? GOD, it's 2012, WTF is this shit?!"

That's the difference. Some people don't understand the huge fucking deal people are making out of it when there's things equally as "outdated" that we use every day without complaint.

Oh yeah I agree. But this was clearly something they struggled with last gen, you'd think if they had any problems they could look for some inspiration elsewhere, or at least communicate with 3rd parties.
