As noted on r/PlatinumGamesInc most of this people have completely removed any mention of PG from their social media accounts.

Inaba have moved out of Japan entirely: https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:b7lr6nwwfdbbh6ejlrt3hvnf/post/3ld7htxkz7222?ref_src=embed
The stduio seems to be still trying to focus on live service despite Babylon's Fall, creating animosity with old time employes.

Ok so it's public Taura left? Yeah he left.

They've had a lot of projects cancelled. It really feels like their shenanigans finally have made them persona non grata in the industry.

Last I heard, his [Taura] project was canned by the partner company and that was probably the onus for him ti bail.

For what reason? None of the games they made for Nintendo have ever sold any copies
The Switch version of Beyonetta 1, 2 and 3 sold over a million for a small budget. Astral Chain also sold over a million units.

They're a small developer in the grand scheme of things so they don't spend hundreds of millions of dollars making games.

Their games that were published by Nintendo did as much in sales as the Xeno games from Monolith, with the exception of Cereza and the Demon which was so far removed from Beyonetta gameplay wise I'm not surprised Beyo fans didn't buy it.

Nintendo needs to scoop them up and save them from live service hell. Cereza and Astral Chain are top tier video games. It can't end like this!

This is not surprising at all, all the key developers left there, who subsequently opened their own studios, taking some of the people with them, plus Babylon's Fall really battered them. In fact, of the founding fathers, only Atsushi Inaba remained there, who, in principle, never really got involved in game development and was just a producer. Plus another alarm bell was when they started making Granblue Fantasy: Relink, but something went wrong there and eventually Cygames decided to refuse their services, and made the game themselves, the reasons were not written, this is exactly why there was a delay in the release of the game (Co-developed from 2016 until February 2019 when development moved fully to Osaka Cygames). That's why the studio is clearly in trouble, and I think this isn't the last sad news about them.

In order to have a reason to buy someone, there must be people with weight or games with a strong IP, Platinum at the moment has no people with weight or strong IP.

They’ve been bleeding talent for years now. The writing has been on the wall. You don’t lose pretty much all your creative founders and live to tell the tale. GGs Platinum.

Hopefully they'll manage to release an Astral Chain sequel for the Switch 2 before the studio disbands. :lollipop_pensive:

yup. I just started Bayonetta 3, got it for my birthday a few weeks back, and seeing the Astral Chain eastereggs in there made me remember how much I loved that game and how awesome a Switch 2 sequel with less of a hardware restriction would be.

Platinum really feels like their games are held back by the Switch at this point... the fact that Bayonetta 3 even works on that hardware and targets 60fps is already a miracle lol.

They need to make some new games for PC/PS5/Xbox, quit this Nintendo partnership. Re-release Madworld for VR. Give us Revengeance 2, Anarchy Reigns 2, and Vanquish 2.

I feel like they never properly recovered from Babylon's Fall. Despite most of their games not being sales number darlings, I think BF really spooked would-be collaborators and financers. They really needed a breakout hit in the past few games and never got it.

Still, it'd be a shame if they imploded, but how many of the truly talented devs are left there anyways?

Most of there talented left over staff will flee to M-Two, Kamuy or Clovers. It’s over GAF, Platinum Games is dead like all there IPs.

They didn't close only because Nintendo picked them up. Because they ran around offering their games and Bayonetta (Microsoft, Sony) and everyone except Nintendo, refused them (Nintendo ended up giving them funding, bought the rights to Bayonetta from them. Now part of the IP belongs to Sega and part to Nintendo, Platinum no longer owns it), they weren't interesting to anyone.
That's why they still work only thanks to Nintendo =)

Platinum was always overrated. They had a few niche critical successes (by putting way too high dev budgets on wacky dumb ideas), but never financial ones. They can't sell for shit.

All their big names left long ago. It's a wonder that it's still standing.

Nintendo doesn't own Bayonetta, they have the publishing right to Bayonetta 2 and 3 but Sega owns the IP enterily.

Should have lobbied Square to let them make more quickfire NieR and the Automata follow-up.
If you expecting Automata 2 you never going to get that, Taro never does direct sequels.

The only direct sequel we got from that series was Drakengard 2 and that wasn’t even directed by Yoko Taro.

There are 2 problems here, in that essentially they were always used simply as working thugs for developing games for other IPs. As a result, they were unable to create a good portfolio of their IPs because they were constantly busy with other people's games. Well, the fact that they actually sold the rights to their largest IP is also not good.

The second problem is that some people think that after Babylon's Fall they spoiled their relations with Square Enix. This game banged very hard both for them and for Square Enix.

Just shut it down and let the talent go back to Capcom. Now Inafune fucked off and they aren't ashamed of making Japanese games again it's time to come home.

What time is it?
It's always felt like that studio was teetering on the razor's edge and that was before Kamiya left. It doesn't help that their output is all over the place in terms of quality.

Nintendo doesn't own the Bayonetta IP, Sega does. Nintendo owns the publishing to Bayo 2 & 3.
