The Xbox Series X has 56 CU's, so that means nothing without a clock speed to slap on. I doubt they can make a GPU as big as a Xbox Series X and maintain the clocks they're pulling on the PS5 without making cooling more extravagant and adding a fan. bigger chips are "wider", wider means less MHz possible because heat will increase a lot. This is a crux even Apple is facing with their M2 Ultra chips and lowest node available to men.
This is also different than the approach they took with the PS4 pro, where they doubled the chip from 18 to 36 CU's, PS5 is 36 CU's, for coherency sake and because they liked to turn half the CU's off on PS4 Pro to ensure perfect retrocompatibility with PS4 (and I don't think PS5 being 36 CU's as well is a coincidence), I'd wager 72 CU's should be more likely.
18000 MT/s a useless metric without the ram bit-width interface and/or number of chips. But considering 256 bit bandwidth, it's not a massive increase. 448 GB/s to 576 GB/s. I can see them going for 384 bit (12 chips instead of 8) and 18 GB of RAM, in order to hit 864 GB/s. I don't believe they could go for 24 GB of installed RAM and 16 GB is not possible with this configuration.

Hope "RDNA 4 RT stuff" is a massive step up in RT performance for team red. It didn't sound like they were going down the accelerated compute route and still prob doing it in CUs, but still I hope it's much better and eliminates the choice between dropping to 30fps and running RT in a lot of games.

He said 30 wgp, it's not going to have 72cus in a console soc launching in 2024. I don't think that's realistic at all. 60 with some turned off for yield makes way more sense. I don't recall the one x having an even multiple of the one s cu count and back compat worked great without any need for toggles or anything. Why can't the ps5 pro work that way too?

Also I would be Willing to bet there will be some sort of upscaler/proprietary tech like the PS5 has like the geometry engine. It may even have Frame Gen tech from Sony themselves.

We shouldnt compare number of cu to rdna2 as they have double cores now. 51tf rx7900xt has 84cu so 1.4x more. If ps5pro can have same clocks (will be much smaller so maybe its possible) than it performance in raster will be around rtx4070/rx6800xt. If this kepler guy from twitter is right and it will be mix rdna3.5 with rdna4 rt I think it will be great spec. If rt is same as rdna3 it will be underwhelming already on premiere.

Did you not fully read my post? A 4 year old card. So a card that launched in 2020 (it will be 4 years old by the time this launches).
But that's also besides the point, the post I was responding to called this a beast which refers to its performance I would assume. There is nothing about this performance that would warrant such a label.
When the PS5 launched it managed to outperform or match a $699 4 year old GPU. This doesn't even match that benchmark.

RDNA3 chiplet design could allow for more flexibility than GCN. The SOC could have 10 WGPs/20 CUs per shader engine, and one of the shader engines disabled for compatibility.

MT/s is a standard memory measure and not the same as clock speed since there's so much confusion about this. When something says DDR4-3600 for example, it's actually talking about 3600MT/s, not MHz, since the DOUBLE data rate in DDR means it's doing two data transfers per Hz, so 3600MT/s = 1800Mhz
This rumor would say it's boosted by 28.5% from 14,000 MT/s to 18,000 MT/s

It depends on clock speeds and being of a refined architecture. The Pro could be as fast as 3080ti or 3090 and it's a close platform.

Maybe, AMD IPC gains for RDNA have been near zero but clockspeed bumps have been good. The major issue I see is the lack of memory bandwidth. Could be solved by infinity cache, but that's expensive.
I'd be happy if this is faster then it looks.
