they got scared by the microsoft xbox handheld rumors for later this year
We'll just have to keep playing "the old.." one in the meantime..Pulling a…Switcheroo…
The head of Nintendo has said he wants to support the Switch for much longer than the usual five or six-year console life.
Question is what purpose does a delay serve? Is it so more software and services are ready for launch? Is it so the hardware can be manufactured on a smaller node? Is there some shortage of components that justifies a delay?
They're not drastically changing their hardware plans so close to release. If they left the option for a Switch 2 Pro open during the planning phase, that's something they can still capitalize on after releasing the regular SKU.If I'm Nintendo and there is a good chance Microsoft and Sony enter the handheld market and I'm largely stuck with a hybrid system that is the worst of both worlds, I reconsider my strategy.
Nintendo should be pivoting to a 3 SKU strategy. Switch 2, Switch 2 Lite, and Switch 2 Pro.
Switch 2 Pro being on par with the PS5 Pro.
Nintendo has a unique position to absorb a lot of dissatisfied Xbox consumers while protecting their strength in the handheld space.
Even if Microsoft and Sony aren't able to dethrone Nintendo in the handheld space, even cutting into their sales by 30-40 percent would be devastating to Nintendo.
A lazy switch 2 that is just a more powerful switch isn't going to be the success story in the long run that the switch was.
Imagine if the PS5 Pro isn't real and the Switch 2 gets delayed to next year
It probably has more to do with software..they learned their lesson with the Wii U. And that's one thing Reggie was very clear about. The games came eventually, but it was too late. Are they having trouble sourcing 64GBs of storage?

As for absorbing Xbox gamers, perhaps that's already happening? Xbox numbers are in decline and Nintendo are setting personal records. Could be part of the reason, for all I know.
Ah yes, cause Sony had amazing success in the handheld biz, and Microsoft is the king of hardware. I totes think Nintendo is worried. If I'm Nintendo and there is a good chance Microsoft and Sony enter the handheld market and I'm largely stuck with a hybrid system that is the worst of both worlds, I reconsider my strategy.

As for the bolded, just to be clear: you're saying every one of Sony's zero first party games planned for this year could also be easily ported to a second platform, yes?As for Microsoft, again you don't understand the reduction in market share even 5-10% from them is a massive hit on your bottom line.
- Sony wasn't developed much as a software developer enough at the time and couldn't run parallel streams of software development enough to ensure support for the Vita
- Streamlined support is now achievable due to scalability
- Handhelds no longer need to be pocket sized or near pocket sized allowing for a 1:1 experience between handheld and console
- Handhelds are more expensive in price now
- The PS3 was in a lot of trouble and hemorrhaging money at the time
Well, Sony isn’t doing jack, MS is doing whatever the fuck Phil will think up in his next dream or whatnot. If true, the fuck are Nintendo's plans for next FY which starts on April 1st?
There's nothing past TTYD and Luigi's Mansion. But in February that's also not at all unusual, this early in the year. It's still very early. And Nintendo also almost always holds the key holiday announcements/ big holiday first-party games for the June Direct.I am talking about 2024. What major releases this year?
As for the bolded, just to be clear: you're saying every one of Sony's zero first party games planned for this year could also be easily ported to a second platform, yes?
(In other words, Sony isn't properly supporting the single platform that they have.)
Everything is more expensive now than it was prior to 2020. Not to mention how expensive freight & shipping is now. And we already know from Nintendo themselves that they make less money on the OLED model at $50 more MSRP than they do on the standard LCD model. I think they'll go in the direction of replacing the current models with the next-gen models, and not even bother with discounts and trying to make both systems simultaneously. The new ones will just absorb the original and completely replace them, and they won't be in the situation of needing to drop price. After all, it's been 7 years and they've never once done a permanent price drop on any Switch hardware or software.Well, Sony isn’t doing jack, MS is doing whatever the fuck Phil will think up in his next dream or whatnot.
Does Nintendo have to do anything really?
I mean they could drop the price , but we all know that ain’t happening.
I'm referring to the announcement by SIE this week that no major first party releases are planned for this year.Zero first party games? What do you call Concord? Do you think they've announced every first party game? I know you're trolling, but this was just dumb.

Sony Interactive Entertainment will not release “any new major existing franchise titles” before March 31, 2025

The existing Sony franchises I care most about (Motorstorm, Wipeout) are long dead anyway. That you willfully ignore the "existing franchises" part says everything about you.
I'm not intentionally ignoring it as a dig against Playstation. But to claim that Sony's current support for PS5 is so strong they could easily carry the weight of two platforms is nonsensical. I'm just calling out your claim. That you willfully ignore the "existing franchises" part says everything about you.

will we do need 2 and 3 remasters first right?Metroid Prime 4 never coming out.
Read through that thread. PS5 gamers are complaining about the lack of releases. There was also the other thread about PS5 reaching the halfway point of its lifespan, also with posters complaining about the lack of significant releases. They're the same games, if it can carry one platform it can carry two.
And you absolutely ignored it. That they are releasing more original IP this year rather than sequels shouldn't be something that is out of left field.
If you look at the PS4 there were multiple years without existing IP getting sequels. Tell me I'm wrong.
UPDATE:Sources: Nintendo Switch 2 will now launch in 2025 | VGC
UPDATE: VGC sources suggest Nintendo’s next console will arrive later than expected…www.videogameschronicle.com
"Since publishing this story, VGC has heard from multiple sources who said Nintendo has told publishers its next console will now launch in Q1 2025.
According to the sources, third-paty game companies were recently briefed on an internal delay in Nintendo’s next-gen launch timing, from late 2024 to early the following year."

My argument is that Sony are not doing a tremendous job carrying their platform.
You made a nonsensical generalized statement backed by wishful thinking and I replied with a hyperbolic and sarcastic remark to bring you down to earth. That's all it was. Look at what the new head of SIE is saying in recent threads. He is unhappy with Playstation's return on investment. He's not about to approve a second piece of hardware, with all the costs that would entail. Actually a third piece, including PSVR2.No, now you're shifting.
You said they had ZERO major first party releases this year. Which just isn't true.
Depending on how you look at it they release 3 major 1st party games in 2020
2 in 2021
3 in 2022
1 in 2023
This is on par with what they did on the PS4 at this point in its life, in fact they've released more games from major franchises earlier in the life of the PS5 than the PS4.
The PS4 launched in 2013
They've released two spider-man games on PS5, Spider-Man didn't hit PS4 until 2018
God of War didn't hit PS4 until 2018, yet we got Ragnarok already
Horizon didn't come out until 2017, yet we got Forbidden West already
Last of Us didn't come out until 2020...
Ignoring the pandemic which has delayed games and slowed game development and that games are taking longer to develop is pretty fools game. Compared to the rest of the industry, they're doing really well.
What major releases came out for PS4 between 2013 and 2017 that somehow overshadows what Sony has already done here?
Sony will release a new first-party game for PS4 next month, this kind of support would not be something new. It's all part of the plan:
Nintendo plans to support Switch for 7 to 10 years

Dont think nintendo has any will to fool around with development costs for ps5 pro type of hardware.. or diminishing profits in selling expensive hardware....If I'm Nintendo and there is a good chance Microsoft and Sony enter the handheld market and I'm largely stuck with a hybrid system that is the worst of both worlds, I reconsider my strategy.

So this delay is actually happening.

Please don't, especially if they're mostly related to potential delays of highly anticipated hardware and software releases haha. It's funny dude, just yesterday I was thinking that they would just do a full 8 year lifecycle and launch it in March. I should start posting each one of my thoughts, I have insider potential.
