Extas1s states, via machine translation, a source who "works directly at Microsoft" said the company is working on what's provisionally known internally as "Xbox Classics". According to the claim, this wouldn't be a simple re-release of classic games.

"What Xbox is working on is a new advanced emulation platform designed to run classic Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles with stability, graphical improvements, full integration with Game Pass, PC, current consoles, portable devices like the Ally, and, of course, the cloud."

I'd love NGB and NGII on my PC if it's as good as the emulated Xbox version.

Yes, I know there's the NGB mod on Nexus, but it doesn't get rid of the Rachele sections nor fixes the inferior enemy placement.

Sarah Bond said they had a team busy preserving Xbox games awhile ago.

What are some good games on Xbox Original worth to be played nowadays?
A lot of them already appeared on the Xbox One / Series backwards compatibility program. However excellent racing games like PGR and Rallisport Challenge didn't make it (licensing issues) and some other popular titles like MechAssault, also due to licensing. I'm not sure how many games didn't make it because they couldn't get the emulation to work. That would be interesting to know.

Good luck with licensing stuff.... i can imagine how (obvious example) Rockstar would be happy to know that MS itself wants to erase a launch window...

Im guessing the emulation will be able to read physical DVD version of the games?

The current emulation doesn't do that per say, the disc is just authentication, a ISO is downloaded to your system for local play. Data is not read via disc.

The story is probably fake, but...

MS is not going to do that. They are going to sell the games/put on GP. They aren't going to let you use your old discs.
You needed specific DVD firmware to even read the data partition of the discs, which all PC optical drives wont support. Xbox DVD games appear as a DVD video to non-Xbox devices. This will be purely for gamepass and digital store titles only.

If this happens, it will likely all be done through the Xbox store and no discs. This is PC after all.

It would be good to do as they wind down the Xbox console platform.

Same but ill just emulate the stuff ive already paid for if they think im coughing up again.
Yeah, not a chance in hell I would spend a single penny for any of the games I already own. The only time I buy remasters or remakes are when I never played the original. Just can't do it captain!

\(-_-)/

Would make a ROG a much more attractive purchase for me. All BC games, indies, and some modern games. Pretty handy.

All these emulators are open source. I always wondered why platform holders never bothered using them. PCSX2 for instance is light years better than the native ports on PSN. Even on Steam Deck you can run games at 3x resolution and full speed in every game Ive tried.

MS has a bad habit of just letting people / media run with rumors. If none of them turns out to be true that that's BAD for Xbox. When the next gen Xbox just end up being a series X 2.0 then its going be mass dissapointment across the board.

The next xbox will play all the games the current one does.

This is about PC emulation.

This is something people like to talk about on forums, but the mainstream gamer doesn't care about games from 20 years ago. We get plenty of classic releases and these games don't do megasales.

That this is Microsoft's priority to try and sell xbox console gamers on buying their PC tells me that they don't have any good ideas.

What sucks is if this was true, you wouldn't be able to play a lot of the games on pc as they were delisted and only work with disc.
You know if ms did this for pc it wouldn't put them back on and most people don't have dvd drives on their pcs anymore or would ms allow it.

As soon as Phil ended the backwards compatibly push all these games went away, like it was some publicity stunt to get goodwill but as soon as that activsion deal went through bam.

A few examples of games that were on the store but were removed, you can only play them via disc.
Splinter cell + pandora tomorrow
Bad company 1 and 2.
Forza Horizon 4
Sega Genesis Classics
Arkham Origins
Fear
Mortal Kombat 9
Enchanted Arms
Spec Ops: The Line
Shadows of the Damned
Prince of Persia 2008
Prince of Persia Sands of Time
Silent Hill Downpour
Skate 2
Ghost recon advanced warfighter

Just off the top of my head. I know as i had to buy the discs 2nd hand (so weren't expensive) for a lot of games as they were taken off the store a few months before I got my series x in late 2023. They won't add anymore which is ridiculous.
There is no reason these were removed , for what?

You can play them if you bought the before delisted, but if not you are shit out of luck.

That would be rad. I would love to dig into the OG XBox's library. One of the only mainstream consoles I barely played.
news for you, only a few dozen games work on series x as it is, and many used to but were delisted due to MS being bitches and not paying a small royalty or something, who knows why.

I feel like part of this is to show that Microsoft is the safest place to preserve your digital library, past, present and future. I don't think its as much about selling XBox consoles anymore because the 'Everything is an Xbox' strategy is very clearly saying as long as you're in their ecosystem, they don't care where you access it. Whatever the next Xbox is won't be a system they expect to sell 50m units, they had their ducks in a row better this gen than last and the Series model is trailing behind Xbox One. Speaking personally I don't have an Xbox console anymore, but I do have a digital library of OG Xbox/360 games that I'd love to play on my PC devices. That would also keep me putting money into their ecosystem because I've pretty much stopped spending money in the XBox store.

it's all down to their refusal to make a universal emulator that just reads unmodified discs and emulates it on the spot.
they still do this bullshit where you have to download a modified version.

if they are actually serious about backwards compatibility they need to make an og Xbox and Xbox 360 emulator that just reads a disc and uses only the data from the disc with no additional download required. just how the backwards compatibility on Xbox 360 worked, where once your Emulator was installed and updated, games just ran from disc.

on Xbox 360 their og Xbox emulator was severely limited by the hardware of the 360, but that's now absolutely not an issue anymore, neither is 360 emulation.

Why would they do that when the whole point is to sell new copies.
