That's not even 20 seconds and you know it. Plugging in the controller after every session takes more time than changing batteries once every few weeks. Also you have the option to use an akku as well. Options are good, trust me.

But funny how you mention only XB guys but completely skipped people who play on Switch or PC who also see there's an issue with battery life in PS controllers. Reported for console warring.

The switch pro controller gives you 40 hours of battery life and you don't have to open it up to change anything, Xbox offers you a choice between batteries and peripherals to power it's controllers. No matter how you spin it, Sony is not better positioned than the competition in this department.
I know you feel compelled to defend your console of choice but this really is not the hill to die on.

That's shit. xbox 360 and one lasts 40... and has removable AA so I can swap rechargables(or not) in an instant and continue playing.
With this, You have to connect the cable every night and put console in rest mode. Or it will deplete mid game next day.

DS4 is the biggest piece of shit on the market. I had to buy 2 because 2 died from minimal use. They are dead after 1 play session. It's a joke compared to the other systems.

I guess long usb cables don't exist, people don't have usb connection in their couch, they don't sit near an outlet, have travel chargers or they don't have another device with USB ports to plug into (e.g. laptop). Jesus, people on this forum are meant to be tech enthusiasts but the thought of using a long usb cable means you have to dock your controller to console hardware apparently. God forbid a lot of people even have a second controller or custom scuf etc. The actual amount of people that this is a real world issue for is going to be so tiny. It's as much an inconvenience as needing to have a spare set of batteries charged, or needing to keep a stock of normal batteries. Or using a play and charge kit.

It has nothing to do with playing 10-12 hours in one sitting. Now you basically always have to plug in your controller after gaming, you can't forget it because otherwise you are much closer to a drained battery. If you forget you can go ahead and charge mid game playing with a cable of not even a meter long...
Also that's 10-12 hours at best. This means that over time the battery quality will go down and you'll eventually end up with 5-6 hours of battery life.

I do exactly that. I bought 2 DS4 with one while playing and other charging and I swap between them. I swap between them sometimes twice in 1 session.

Sony don't compete in its own market. When effin Nintendo of all companies release a better controller than you then you are really screwed. Why the fancy features that will be rarely used when they can turn all that to what is important for most players which is battery life. We can't excuse Sony for the battery life, it's not an iPhone.

You're not tethered lol. If it flashes up, plug it in. Chances are most of those use cases can be applied to most people. Could it be better, yeah but it's not a terrible thing. I got a new controller 1 year after launch and I put about 7 hours into GoT yesterday (over 3 sessions) and got the one bar flashing towards the end. That's good enough for me. If you're an avid COD player or FUT it might annoy you more, I have no idea tbh.

Hell, the joycons have 5x the battery life of the DS4. They have multiple additional features and are basically wiimotes with an IR camera and more advanced rumble. And they're 5x as small. You dont even have to mention the pro controller

What an ignorant comment. No i'm not lazy. I have limited play time. I don't want to sit close to the tv or have a long usb cable. DS4 is not an iPhone. Its main usage is playing games. Again, DS4 battery life is so terrible I had to buy 2 to swap between them.

Exactly. You open it, put another batteries or rechargables. And for 360 they were even selling battery packs that You charge with cable so it MADE IT INTO internallike battery controller.
There is no upside to internal battery. It's lower capacity, it downgrades over time, replacing it in 10 years will be impossible and You have to wire up Your wireless controller all the time. It's a joke and anti consumer because some idiots don't want to have an option to open the battery cover

I won't be buying PS5 in the first year since my main platform is the PC. I do own a PS4 Pro with a Dual Shock 4, and at first liked the idea of syncing up the DS4 to my PC, but with how short the battery lasted (3-4 hrs) it turned me off and I stopped using it on PC altogether.
With this being a little more than double the battery of DS4, it's still not the greatest compared to Switch and Xbox One controller, but it's a step in the right direction. I do wonder why Sony isn't capable of getting a controller out there that offers a good 20-30 hour battery life, when Nintendo and MS are capable of doing so.
One thing I enjoy about using the DS4 on PS is the trackpad and gyro, so with the Dual Sense being an extension of that formula, and having more than double the battery life of DS4, I may pick up the controller for PC before I even get a PS5.

The vast majority of cables are only 0.5-1m long, so good luck with playing from you couch with a plugged-in controller.

An in built non replaceable battery that lasts 10 hours is in no universe better than a controller that accepts universal AA batteries, including rechargeable ones, a rechargeable battery pack that MS sell, or can be played without a battery at all and plugged in.
you get the best of both worlds with the Xbox controllers (although the elite 2 is stupid with it's built in, it's why I haven't bought one)
If you want to play with it plugged in then you buy a longer cable lol. I've got 3 and 5 metre ones that cost like $3 each. Haven't played wirelessly in years.

I wonder how quickly the battery life degrades. I really wish they made the batteries replaceable. My DS4 batteries ran out relatively quickly. I don't remember the time span, but I do remember buying 2 controllers for the express purpose of swapping them during extended gaming sessions. I'd regularly have to swap at least once. 10-12 hours sounds really good. I shouldn't be gaming for that long in a single session. Maybe I can get away with just 1 controller at launch. We'll see.

Good compromise as the controller have an advanced feature-set. A cost will come when even your controller is a gen leap and not the same controller as last gen but with a share button in the middle

BTW, you don't need a long USB cable. Use a power bank, if you run out of juice. Those of us who are pod vapors know about proper charging practices. I charge both my wireless mouse and vape stick each night, before I go to bed. I get a full day's use out of both. I don't even need to charge them each night, but I do so that I never run out of power during the day. I don't forget, because it's routine.
Personally, I'll be buying a charging dock again. It's a solid investment for convenience. Plus, you can place it closer to where you sit, so that when you turn off the console, you just plop the controller onto the stand. I don't think an PS gamer is saying they wouldn't want longer battery life. However, given the issues with the DS4, and how we've all adapted, this sounds like a step in the right direction that simplifies our routines. IMO, it's better than external batteries, because even my Xbox-style PC controller is rechargeable, and it's life is no different than a new DS4. So I'm fine with plugging that in to recharge after a long session of NBA2k20.
