If your sessions last for longer than 10 hours straight then the problem is you not the controllers battery life.

The fact is, like the 1TB drives, these are based on analytics. It's probably Sony trying to get away with the best price/benefit ratio, so they take into account all the metrics and find the 'sweet spot'. Just like MS/Sony have done and concluded around 1TB seems to be the sweet spot in storage, though we'd all like 2TB+ on this forum.

What's moaning about it going to do? For some of us, it addresses a concern had with the DS4. What difference does the life of controllers on other systems matter, if you won't be using them? Like buying a Tesla and complaining a Clio can drive further. Yeah, it's true, but you have a Tesla. You should know what you were getting into.

Won't really change much for someone who is playing a rumble intensive game for many hours a day; you still better charge that shit every night (also charging in general should be quicker with USB C).

It's crazy that people today would prefer to put AA batteries in a controller. I can deal with charging a controller occasionally or *gasp* playing with it plugged in as long as I am not replacing batteries all the time. Replacing batteries is bush league and just MS gouging their customers (similar to their storage strategy on XSX). Who doesn't have at least one extra controller for multiplayer?

To ask for more? If players complain they would bother to consider or improve. Didn't Microsoft answer the Halo backlash because fans complained? This is something I want them to improve because i'm buying the console so i'm not going to pretend this is the best thing ever to defend the company against the competition. Players should grow up from this immature console wars and attachment to these multibillion dollar companies.

But they have improved the controller. This is a pretty big jump in battery life over the DS4, and covers a single gaming session for the vast majority of people. That's the difference. I don't want to swap AA batteries, although I wish the rechargable pack was replaceable after it degrades. But they'd obviously prefer to sell more controllers. However, I'm fine with the stated battery life of 10-12 hours. Therefor, there's no reason to complain. I see most of the complaints in this thread are from people who don't necessarily have an interest in the console, which makes the point moot. Should PS gamers complain about MS requiring AA batteries for controllers, when there are a huge number of rechargeable Xbox-style pads for the PC? I don't see a point in that. Saying that "Xbox gamers should demand more to force the company to improve" kinda rings hollow when I'm not buying an Xbox. It comes across as concern trolling.
Just a nitpick, but you mean 66% less. You can't have more than a 100% reduction on something, unless you're going into negatives. Which would be a bit funny for battery life.

Switch Pro controller is usually 35-40 hours.
Joycon is usually 20 hours.
You're right, even the small portable Switch controller lasts more than 300% longer, while having more features and being much, much smaller.

fake news. DS4 no way is for 3-4 hours. i had like 10 of them, most of them gas out at around 10h. few maybe was around 8h.

100% that is what mine lasts, and it's the 3rd one I've owned because the others just stopped working entirely with minimal use and zero abuse. Friend of mine literally had their DS4 cause their entire system to start smoking when she plugged it in. This isn't counting all the joystick rubber meltdowns or the complete pointlessness of the touchpad or the light.
I own the PS4, and will own the PS5. I have zero reason to exaggerate. The DS4 really, reallyyyyyyyyyy sucks.
P.S. The LAN port on my PS4 also mysteriously stopped working entirely. Have to play fighting games Wi-Fi for no reason for 2 years. Google it, and it's also a common issue.

Regarding the battery, I think this is more than enough for a long gameplay session. My biggest question nos is the dpad quality. I'd love to see they go back to the godlike responsiveness they had for Street Fighter-like games on some of dpads they did have in some of their portables.

And that was a downgrade from the Wii U pro controller, which LITERALLY lasted EIGHTY hours. Not kidding. Google it, it's real.
I once beat two full video games over a period of months and never charged it.

But again, why even bother making wireless controllers instead of just putting a long USB cable in the box, which would have been orders of magnitude cheaper? They are wireless for a reason, and that reason is convenience. Many people aren't lonely games, they have girlfriends, wives, kids, pets etc. running around the house, and cables hanging around the living room are simply not an option.

I still would like to know why the DS4 battery last so little compared to the DS3, if it's a matter of it having more functionalities I guess it's fine (except for the stupid ligth you can't turn of on PS4 but that you can easily turn of on PC as well as choosing any color you want for it).
But 10-12 house is a big improvement and kinda makes it irrelevant since no one is going to play for 12h without having the opportunity to charge it during the night.
With the DS4 you have to keep a long USB cable in hand, my controller is very unpredictable, sometime it last much longer than I expect and sometime it doesn't last at all.

I intend to buy an additional DualSense controller. So, when one drains, I can just switch to another one. Also, 10-12 hours of battery life is great, because that's about as long as a gameplay session would last on a day off from work.

Thank you for sharing your personal experience. I've already had that I had to plugin a cable when gaming. Couple of issues, it's annoying, since your movement is hindered and it's always there. But more importantly, in case of the PS4 I now have to sit 1m away from my TV... So unless you always charge your controller after gaming and never play more than 10-12 hours, then it's OK. Just more constraints that you have to take into account.
OR you can say, hmm it's weird Nintendo and Microsoft are able to get 30-40 hours out of these controllers, maybe we should be getting the same quality if we pay the same price? Stop seeing this as an attack on your preferred system, and see it as an obvious improvement that could be made on it when the competition is able to do this.
