[RUMOUR] FairGame$ has been cancelled. [Update: Pachter says he "misspoke"]

Hilarious to see so many people running with whatever Patcher. That guy is a well known clown in this industry.

Maybe the game is cancelled but I need to hear it from basically anyone other than Patcher.
Yeah it's odd because for years Pachter was known around the internet for making the exact opposite predictions of what would actually happen in real life, especially game failures and successes.

If this were just a few years ago people would be saying 'so then fairgame$ is coming out soon. Pachter confirmed.'

We'd know it was cancelled because the studio would be shut down.

The entire premise of these sort of projects is that they need ongoing investment to maintain user interest and long term revenue generation. If there is no "base" project, then this need no longer exists... and hence the entire studio is surplus to requirements.

Its pretty basic stuff to wrap your head around.
You should read my post again.

Nah PS1 was worse.
We really need a reaction for posts like this

Man… The management at Sony really fucked up this generation.

PS5 honestly is the worst console of all time of all the generations when it comes to first party games. Fuck even the WII U had a better line up of games.
It's funny the switch took the credit for the pretty decent Wii U line up.

Countless? I think you counted everything of value from sony more or less this gen
Nah, for eg PSVR2 for me is an incredible piece of hardware, GT7's VR mode is amazing, the Portal is a fantastic handheld, PS Premium offers great value, and I like that games such as Rebirth or FF XVI start their life as PS5 exclusives cause it puts a special spotlight on them and makes me want to play them.

The upgraded PS4 games were fantastic (like Ghost of Tsushima Director's cut), the Pulse Explorer is a fantastic device I would've never bought if it wasn't for my Portal, and the Dualsense is a fantastic controller.

And playing as Venom is by far the best thing I played this gen.

But that's personal taste

It's hard not to laugh, this is what you get trying to chase the big money that will not always pay off.

Get back to your roots with AA and AAA types of games.

We don't know if she was fired or if she left. Looking at her career it's more likely that she left because wanted to do something new and somebody else was paying her a shit ton of money elsewhere because she's one of the most successful persons in the industry at building top selling AAA teams.

She probably left at her own will.

No she was fired. You don't leave your extremely high paying and prestigious studio job to do nothing. She currently unemployed.

Right, it's just a vocal minority of basement dwelling CHUDs hating on it. Incels. Talentless freaks with an agenda.

That's what they said about the last dozen or so "modern audience" flops in gaming/movies/TV.

This game had the overwhelming stink of trend-chasing modern audience slop since the first reveal. You have to be delusional to insist otherwise.

And if this were the rare exception, some truly fantastic + commercially viable game that just made a bad first (and second) impression, why do you think Jade Raymond left? You really think she founded a new studio bailed out right before their first project launched when everything is shaping up to be a success?
Agenda as in a bias against GaaS where they want these projects to fail so they focus more on single player games. I'm not sure why you brought that other crap up.

The post I quoted in its entirety?

For the record I wasn't specifically criticizing your post, just pointing out how dodgy the entire premise of this thread is!
I know you weren't I just made a joke lol.
The game isn't cancelled right now, but it'll most likely be in the future.

I only have beefs with thicc_girls_are_teh_best thicc_girls_are_teh_best now, except when I make I collect VHS tapes I collect VHS tapes super mad and guy just turns against me, lol.
Returnal was pre-current SIE and approved under Layden's reign. Astro was probably approved under Layden too, but maybe could've been Jim. Stellar Blade & Silent Hill 2 would've fallen under Jim Ryan's reign. Spiderman 2 & Miles Morales under Shawn's (tho, Spiderman 2 has its issues). GT7 was under Shawn & Jim's.

FWIW, when I personally speak of SIE's current leadership, I mean post-Jim Ryan. Although some of the things like the initial GAAS plan, probably came from above him, and those people are still currently at SIE.
Why do you draw a line between Shawn Layden and Jim Ryan when they had way different roles upon their last years at SIE? It's either Andrew House versus Tsuyoshi Kodera versus Jim Ryan versus Hideaki Nishino or Shawn Layden and/or Shuhei Yoshida versus Hermen Hulst, otherwise it's a disingenuous assessment.
Either way, Astro Bot and Stellar Blade were approved in 2021, so they were Ryan and Hulst. Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2 were 2018, so Yoshida, Layden and Kodera. Gran Turismo 7 was 2017, so Yoshida, Layden and Kodera. Returnal was earlier than that, I think, so Yoshida, Layden and House.
There are still many Sony executives, most American C-suite morons, that are STILL working for the company after this absolute disaster with the Live service slop. That should tell you everything you need to know about Playstations's bleak future and American corporations in general. Sony needs to fire them all and move the headquarters back to Japan, this disaster would have never happened if they hadn't moved the gaming division's HQ to California

And for everyone that's gonna gloat about profits, these are short-term gains in exchange for the brand's reputation and future. They're fleecing gamers now but how long do you think it's gonna last? The frustrations are gonna built up and they'll implode like many other game companies have the last few years
You mean GaaS worked for A FEW studios in a worldwide market, many of which started to quickly deteriorate after some years. Gamers saw the writing on the wall many years ago but not these greedy morons that are paid millions to supposedly keep their ears to the ground, they thought flooding an already saturated market with a dozen more GaaS slop would be such a great idea. And let's make these games woke too because apparently gamers love that shit!

Executives are detached from reality in general but American ones are the worst of the worst, absolutely delusional people that have no connection or understanding of their customers
"Only American people make big mistakes, as opposed to the Japanese!" is a pretty juvenile way of thinking. Regarding SIE, though, the company has never had an American CEO, and the executive management and board of directors remained predominantly Japanese for the last decade.
Furthermore, when Tsuyoshi Kodera, former Sony Network Entertainment head, first became CEO in October 2017, the company started exploring ways to expand their revenue stream of in-game purchases of first-party titles, i.e. GaaS.

The Division's Dark Zone but it is Payday with PlayStation Studios production values sounds like a killer concept on paper -- I'd certainly want to at least give it a shot.

It was nothing even remotely like the Dark Zones in the Division.

It was Payday but with a "Diverse Set of Characters (TM)" and a shitty premise about stealing from the rich... because capitalism = bad or some shit.

This would fit with Raymond getting sacked in June (hopefully for good and no one gives her another executive position in the future). They probably thought about reworking the project, but there's no potential there, it's not even an established IP.

She's a 50 years old millionare executive, maybe decided to retire early.

Pachter, so this is unlikely. Good news though, we get concord again.
I went later to watch the whole video, and he says like over a dozen things that are objectively wrong just looking at factual publicly known oficial data.

So very likely he also made out that part too.

Why do you draw a line between Shawn Layden and Jim Ryan when they had way different roles upon their last years at SIE?
Shawn Layden was the head of SCEA/SIEA, meaning the regional subsidiary in charge local sales and marketing for America from 2014 to 2018 (early PS4 & late PS3 days). This is the reason of why hosted E3 conferences.

Layden was also Chairman of Worldwide Studios / PS Studios from 2016 to 2019, a period where he (and Yoshida) started to expand to PC and to GaaS. But the president and head of Worldwide Studios / PS Studios was Shuhei Yoshida from 2008 to 2019.

Jim Ryan was the head of SCEE/SIEE, same but from Europe but starting there in the PS1 days as the marketing guy, and having a key role on the huge PS1 & PS2 success there, and PS being the only gaming platform with Europe as the largest region.

So, as the better option, Jim Ryan was chosen as new SIE CEO. Big fan of indies, Yoshida pitched Ryan a series of actions and ideas to better support indies at PlayStation. He agreed, and tasked Yoshida to create and lead the PlayStation Indies division to implement these ideas. Hermen Hulst, head of the studio who made the best selling PS Studios game ever, so the most successful new IP too, replaced Shuhei Yoshida as president/head of PS Studios.

Layden got butthurt because he wasn't the chosen one instead of Ryan's or Hulst's positions, and either left or got fired. Since then he had roles of 'strategic advisor', 'executive mentor', 'advisory board member' at executive coaching places or Tencent. More recently he has been foundinb board member of this.

I can see that they aproximatedly doubled their first party revenue during this push, and that this quarter 40% of their first party revenue came from GaaS. Meaning, even if their non-GaaS part also grew, they doubled their revenue mostly thanks to money coming from GaaS.

And outside their first party games, almost all their metrics kept growing during this push to all time records too.

So no, they didn't mess anything. As usual in gaming they had some delays, cancellations and not greenlighted pitches, which is normal business for gamedevs, something that always happened since the 70s in all companies, and obviously most of the cases in non-GaaS particularly.

But I know that gaming flatearthers anti-Sony fanboys like adamsapple, Topher Topher or you never will accept it.
Calling Topher Topher an anti Sony fanboy is so out of this world stupid that I spit out the watermelon I was eating. I mean....I don't know if it's possible to be more off base. I know he's not now, but I remember years ago thinking he was a Sony fan boy lmao. That was before I realized that he's just a fucking good ole gaming wizard who just kinda likes everything.

So off base lol

Not unlike what happened to Japanese developers during the 360 era.
Japanese devs struggled during early HD games but I dont remember mass layoffs or big project getting canceled often.....I could be wrong.

To me what saved Japanese games is devs stopped competing with western devs over having the most high tech graphics.

What a disaster.

Totally agree, This has been an horrific gen in terms of Sony first party output and release schedule.

Chasing trends instead of doubling down on what they're good at and what the majority of PS customers want.

I guess that's why Nintendo are constantly as successful as they are they do stick to their roots mainly.

Some of the worst anti-Sony haters and desilusional gaming flatearthers, those who keep claiming PS haz no gamez even just after somebody remind them recent a few great/successful releases, or that keep claiming 'PS is doomed because they are a failing with X area' after having shown oficial, objective data that shows Sony is growing and doing a record performance in that X area and most of the other ones, are former Sony fans.

Some of them think that they continue being fans.

She founded this studio then decided to retire early. coincidentally right before their first game launches. Yeah seems likely.
She left in May and being optimistic it will be a very late 2026 game, but I think it's more realistic to expect it for 2027.

And well, it isn't the first time she leaves a team she created after being a few years there. Notice the pattern:

After working as programmer at SOE during a couple years, she started to lead teams as producer at EA to making Sims Online, was there for a couple years. She left and became producer of a company which got $100M in VC. Afer being there a couple years, she moved to Ubisoft.

As producer she created and leaded a AAA team (the Assassin's Creed one) at Ubisoft Montreal. Was there for 4 or 5 years, then she moved to create and lead Ubisoft Toronto, where created and leaded multiple AAA teams who worked in many of the popular IPs, and later also got a position whose name I don't remember but was basically in charge of overviewing and guiding the new IPs created in the times of The Division, For Honor, Child of Light, Valiant Hearts, The Crew, etc.

After 5 years in Ubisoft Toronto, she left to become SVP of EA and create and lead Motive while supporting Popcap Vancouver and the Star Wars games. She left, took half a year of vacations and got hired as VP of Google, being in charge of their first party games. She was there publishing a few 2nd party games and building a new team until Google decided to shut down Stadia.

So after being there for a couple years, three months later had a new studio set up and publishing deal signed with Sony. 4 years and a half later, she's out.

What do you think people like myself and Topher Topher and many others buy a Playstation for?

First. Party. Games.

You struggle there you start losing people like myself who mainly game on a PC

That doesn't make anyone anti Sony or a flat earther

You shouldn't use chatgpt like this. Ideally, this board should be humans communicating.
Uhh... I wrote all that by myself.

It just happens to be that the careers of Patrice and Jade have been of great interest to me over the years -- due to my enjoyment of the original AC games; Patrice's 1666 being among that batch of truly remarkable games from the original THQ that never saw the light of day; then Jade moving to EA to become the general manager of their Star Wars games (among other roles) for a couple of years (which ties into my obsession with Amy Hennig and Visceral Games' Star Wars title); her studio's work on what was planned to be a really refreshing new IP for the time; and ultimately her arrival to PlayStation Studios up until a few months back, on which, as a PlayStation enthusiast, I took great interest in by default.

These damn gaas games.. Those devs are single player devs..

Marathon would have been insane as a single player fps :(

The industry's greed is frustrating.

Eh....I hear ya man, and I understand where you're coming from, but you're off base on Topher Topher bro. I'm sorry, but ya just are. He's not anti any of the companies dude, he just wants good games and potentially his meds and bowl of soup.
I'm sorry bro, I've never gotten to make an age joke at your expense before, it was time.

Nah, it's not one to one. But Japanese devs were similarly lost. Square thought HD towns were hard and Capcom was using western devs to make their games. They're lucky budgets weren't ballooning like they are now.

Western studios spent years making traditional games and had incredible success. Now they're learning that GAAS games are hard and paying the price for it.
